Sometimes I wonder
if I have made a career
out of Halloween -- dress-up
you know: the right garment
for the day -- the right creature
of face, and tone of play --
prerecording somewhat before
each outgoing venture --
(brush and polish) ( a little
thought as to what to
create...or perhaps
righteously abolish?)

I have been both angel and
devil -- tricked and treated,
been tricked and treated --
never seriously won nor
been entirely defeated --
something to say of value
in all that I guess

I no longer ring bells
but am yet enchanted
by the chimes of youthful
others

so, I will answer the door
if rung...candy in hand
scary enough at my age:)
