In the Frame of Fall and Rain
David J Walker
If I painted your picture
You would still be 19 turning 20
Walking barefoot in the fields of
A distant Fall
Over hills of light autumn breezes
The kind that chills and slightly freezes
Your perfect skin
Never come in
From that half-light of
Of a full autumn rain
Your face in the frame
Your slight smile in the equinox hour
A mile or so down the back roads
Of our overlayed youth

it's quiet,
suffering, it's a quiet &
limp thing. questions
open like books
unread, under(stood),
dusty splintered shelf.
unable to maintain the
self contained war
silent film overlayed
descriptions over &
overplayed; the maid
refusing to leave,
can't breathe can't accept
status position to be
human-
it's quiet, suffering-
something not to be
spoken of.
