One of my favourite songs is Miss Otis Regrets
As songwriting goes it's as good as it gets
So many versions of this most wonderful song
Some singers do it right others do it wrong
Van the Man did a version and that was okay
A jazz version by Nat is better some would say
Lady singers sing and sang this superb song too
Check out Ella's version on the tube of you
All these singers have a different style
Still the same song and it makes me smile
For the best interpretation that I like the most
Is done by Kirsty MacColl so ending this post

i worked on
a bay dock
hotter than
sin but in the
winter warmth
was remembrance
but i never
forgot what
confused
consumed
me that i
thought
that which
would be
me and
please
beam
me
up Scotty
only to hear
i've no control
Captain you are
going to be a molecular
jigsaw puzzle of one thousand
pieces
to be put
back together
again Humpty
Dumpty but was
this puzzle before or
after
the
fall

Mary Morse demanded a horse
"Give me a horse I say!
I want a damned horse
You'll get it of course
Tomorrow is my birthday!"
Mary was scary and very specific
"The horse that you get me must be terrific
And only ten inches tall
So I can take her to school in my bag
She won't have to live in a stall."
"A ten inch horse is not scientific,"
Her fearful parents said.
"It's all that I want!" was Mary's brag
"Get it or you'll be dead!"
All they could find for her
On such short notice:
A three-inch robot horse
They named Mrs. Otis.
But Mary was mad!
"Mrs. Otis won't do!"
She hacked up her parents,
Flushed them down the loo.
The ghosts of her parents
Returned to the house
To possess Mrs. Otis
As small as a mouse.
The small robot horse
Climbed up Mary's cooch
And stirred up her organs a scootch
The horse popped back out
And ran all about
Then moved to Bagdad without notice.

Dear sweet Otis,
Days regrettably went by when I didn't see you,
You passed away too soon.
Playing fetch in heaven now,
But still with me somehow.
My sweet puppy,
The mornings are empty,
They feel more lonely,
Cause you don't wake up beside me.
A boy and his dog once chased the sunset.
We were together and unified.
Our last month happy in July.
Until Angels sang your last lullaby.
Otis, sweet puppy goodbye.

Oh hail the common man!
He’s something of a novelty.
Never has he asked for much.
Some people call him Hillbilly.
Watch, remember, celebrate
His coveralls are washed in lye
Then pinned upon a line to dry.
From rural soil his children sprout.
They’re raised on beans and sauerkraut.
Warp, weft, seam and weave
All for peace and love proclaim,
Have mercy on a peaceful man!
Of simple means and meager lot,
He rides with sure and even trot.
Canter, gallop, ambling gait
Though others fail, he finds no fault,
Endures his fate and woes begot.
His portion is at nature’s whim.
Long days are spent behind his team.
Summer, fall, wind and rain
He plows his fields in furrows deep
And plants his yams deliberately.
Then digs the yield with hoe and spade
To pace the sun in senseless race.
Winnow, thresh and sow the seed
Next year will bring a better yield.
He keeps his garden neatly tilled.
He bows his chest in hopeful gain,
Then hangs his head and prays for rain.
Struggle, plan, hope and dream

NO ONE KNEW OTIS
(New story about Otis)
There's a window over there
And a man sits in an easy chair
Warmth radiates from the comfortable scene
But outside there's s snow storm quite mean
Ice hangs in patches from branches and fences
Against such weather there are no defenses
But on close inspection one would notice
Under the man's window a small dog
named Otis
Not allowed in the warm house the man has a
rule about that
Why would a man do such a thing to a pet
Otis, quite a small dog to meet a cruel end
Expired from cold but dog house sign did amend
"OTIS - MAN'S BEST FRIEND"

Here's to Elisha Graves Otis that stupendous innovator,
Who gave us all a lift in life by inventing the elevator.
Due to Elisha's creative skill and general know-how,
The ups and downs of life we can truly experience now!

“Miss Otis Regrets she’s unable To Lunch Today”
He tried to dance a tango; but she preferred a waltz;
He served a new fandango; but she cures her meats in salts.
When the lady got her stockings; in some kind of bunch;
The fellow took them off for her; and served them up for lunch.
So he rolled it in a wrapper; something made of corn;
It was very neat and dapper; thus a Southwest dish was born.
Did the fellow get too quip; and the lady took an issue;
And the man was troubled at the toilet; because there was no tissue.
When her nose got out of joint; conversations were a mess;
So he suggested that they stop; and give that crap a rest.
He said I’ll see you latter; she asked him to hang on;
She reminded him of Dark Vader; when just like that was gone.
Perhaps he lacks respect; maybe she’s too pent;
Maybe he’s to brazen; perhaps she likes to vent.
It was such a load of do-do and it smelled like methane gas;
I guess that’s how it goes my friends; when youngsters have such sass.
