Apple Orchards Harvest In July, You Rot In October

I pick your apples with a gentleness uncharacteristic of my kind.

I eat them with a fervor that may only come from me.

You are my garden of Eden and I gladly take any fruit the snake may provide me

Because having a piece of you, however unlasting, is better than having none.

Because I hold onto you like a farmer holding his last crop.

And I feast. I allow myself to consume.

If you have the ability to go, then god knows I have the ability to devour.

A man-child they call Abie
Name's Menachem Levy (Levi in Hebrew rhymes with Abie)

A scion of the orchards and fields
played 'soldier' with sword and shield

1964, age 19, left for dead three kilometers behind enemy lines
clawed his way back to the border through thicket and landmine

One leg paralyzed, arms nearly useless
climbed from a pit using his teeth ~
14 operations later, limbs ok, not toothless

  1973, single-handedly captured Egypt's Third Division in a bunker
250 troops and their head, transported to jail in five transport clunkers

Unassuming hero, hauling irrigation pipes in jeans and muddy shoes
Menachem 'Abie' Levy, born and bred in Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu

Autumn Dances

Autumn dances lively minuets,
A kiss of frost upon her cheek,
Joyful celebration dance
With twirling scarlet leaves –
Amber autumn calls,
From orchard fields,
Take her hand -
Come and
Dance!

Orchards of Opportunity

Alone in the orchard of opportunities
surveying the ripened potential
I pondered the fruitful labor of others
enviously sniffing the succulence of success.

Knowing that their success was only mine
in theory, in dreams, in unlimited potential.
Before me lay the future’s untilled fields
awaiting a touch, a vision, an awakening.

Planting a thought, a theory, an inspiration,
tending it, winnowing the weeds of doubt,
nurturing a simple truth long dormant
in the arable corners of an open mind.

Apples In Orchards

Apples in orchards

Apples in orchards crashing like snowflakes to the ground,
They fall into the baskets to be eaten now.
They have ripened and at last we can taste their juices;
This fruit of the loom brings pleasure to our mouths.

Vineyards drunk dry by drunken Mediterranean’s,
Create a wine so divine, you would swear it was a God send.
There is no end of pleasure to be found in this land of ours;
Sip the wine and spit it out and then while away the hours.

Summer shines upon us, as we are drunk in love;
We have tasted her, we are with her and she is the one.
The one who brings us happiness when all else is dark.
She brings us the warmth we crave; she is euphoria for the heart.

Dance for your lover and take off your clothes
And you will see the smile on their face.
Love each other truly and who knows,
You could grow apples in your orchard and savour the taste.

Love is your apple and your life is your orchard;
It takes two to grow an apple, so come on now don’t be a dullard.
Smother them in love and your orchard will grow
And at last you will have a place you can feel at home.

Orchid Orchards

Walking through the orchards and dreaming as the soft summer wind comes lifting the scent of orchids in the air…well I'm all smiles today as last night keeps repeating its self in my mind I can still hear you saying you are the one I’ve waited my whole life to find want you please be mine…well I'd love to say yes but my heart has been broken so many times and I swore it never would again but I'm afraid it's too late to stop this fiery emotion you've rekindled in my heart once again so here's throwing all caution to the wind...I can see you sitting upon the big hill by that old red barn and my heart starts beating faster now as you start walking my way I hope I can find the words to say what you want to hear me say but you just take my breath away but without any words spoken at all you kiss me and I know you know my kiss says it all but if there's still any doubt left in your mind then yes I will be yours now and forevermore!

Me and you, babe, are like Teacher and her apple.
Though like Eve we are tempted by Satan's apple.

I picked you high above, far from reach, glistening
from summer days, picked from the tree a fresh apple.

'Twas the poetic thing to say, but really I
saw you in Facebook on products made by Apple.

Some think we don't gel together, too different, we're
tomato and basil, not oranges and apples!

It's obvious how to keep the doctor away.
Would it work on you, just by eating an apple?

But you know I don't mean it (at least all the time).
A thought came to me in mid-bite of an apple.

Will you and I, find a little home together,
like a worm finds a home in a juicy apple?

Though Timothy observes various meanings
he truthfully just likes the taste of the apple.
