Virginia is a bread-and-butter woman.
She reckons by the Farmers’ Almanac.
She welcomes you with southern inhibitions,
Then gossips to her friends behind your back.
Virginia goes to church each Sunday morning,
And sings about the gospel’s golden light.
Her business with the pastor needs no mention,
Except that she’s the minister’s delight.
Virginia’s is a complicated history.
Her family tree has dark and tangled roots.
Her forebears helped defend the Old Dominion
From Yankees and discrimination suits.
Virginia has prescriptions for her symptoms.
The treatment is expensive to maintain.
Her daddy owns a pharmacy in Leesburg,
So Ginny has no reason to complain.
Virginia never had a favorite lover.
She handled every paramour the same.
She’d coyly tease their egos’ false assumptions,
And trample on their feelings like a dame.
Sic semper tyrannis.

An exceptional young man from the Old Dominion
Was in love with his most overrated opinion
He spouted the verse and chapter
But collapsed shortly thereafter
Because he met up with a savvy West Virginian.

Oh! Virginia
Come travel back with me to Old Virginia
The namesake of Elizabeth: the Queen
No other state possesses such charisma...
Oh! Mother, of this nation... evergreen.
The Old Dominion, (fifth realm of the Crown),
Birthed many 'Declaration' signers here
As well as Presidents...heroes abound,
From battles fought for Freedom we endear.
The Commonwealth is full of history:
From Jamestown...Williamsburg...and even Poe;
Virginians' Honour and Integrity...
Are still the code for living--not just show.
The Blue Ridge, Country Ham, and Brunswick Stew...
Virginia! Oh! Virginia! I love you...

Virginian From Old Dominion Horn Limerick
What he seemed to be was a Virginian,
From state that they call Old Dominion;
No common sense and nary a grain;
Brain was run over by a fast train;
Was a moron if you want my opinion.
Mark Riegell, a representative from
Virginia I just saw on TV news.

The Aging Mind
By Franklin Price
5/19/2015
The aging mind is so confusing
As it thinks about my age
Building that I am perusing
Confines me to an old folk's cage
Construction projects done when young
In a day now take a week
My old head is slightly hung
For these things my youth I seek
Yet when the young ask my opinion
My experience may help them out
It's all about the old dominion
What old age is all about
Can't have it all I never could
Some things for young and some for old
Can't do the things that I once would
To think I'm young would be too bold
