The Torpedo

Fuse lit now, the spark ignited:
Let it burn, this love misguided.
Our future once had seemed vivid
Now obfuscated… no: omitted.

Structural damage, shock waves follow
Breach the hull and the vessel’s hollow.
Floods, and fires. Catastrophic damage.
It wasn’t watertight. We couldn’t manage.

Here I stand, now scarred forever.
Compartmentalizing to withstand the pressure.
Recycle the wreckage. Containment. Creation.
Review what survives the detonation.

We blew up. Weakness, betrayal, fright.
You left me – free to pursue the light.
Once I feared the wreckage too deep,
But beneath the wave, I found my peace.

For in the undertow I was born,
To rise anew. To live. To learn.
Never thought I'd find this place,
Where joy now fills the empty space.

So thank you, though it seems untrue,
For bursting us to something new.

Children of the Forgotten Town

In the gelid that transpires
Of the wreckages of the bombed town
Two children, brother and sister,
With no house and family
Step into the stones of collapsed houses
Playing no more and smiling no more
No gifts, no holidays
Little brother and sister hand by hand
Walking randomly in search of nowhere
No joy anymore obfuscated by dark memories
Of departed mummy and daddy
Escalated by noises of guns shooting afar
Tumulted by random bombs
Silenced by threatening shadows and
Frightening nights
One lollipop from the ruined candy seller at the corner
And then the roar and blast of a close bomb
To take those innocent lives away forever

Premium MemberMy New Old Mourning Routine

There are tears mixed
into the pancake batter
sun is still obfuscated
by the window shades
without sunshine, I still
wind up a morning person
Tobacco clings to me,
where your scent would be
sewn with many memories
into the mesh of myself
a premature family crest,
stained and worn

The new day shows
only one outcome remains
the eggs are runny,
my nose sniffles into an arid oasis
no sunny side seems
to show up these days
I wake up to an empty pillow,
your space hollow through
but I still cannot but help myself
from making breakfast for two.

Truth

Truth is a silent scream behind closed doors.
It is lost to our mind, unable to be verbalized.
It is pooled, festered piss on the carpet floor.
It is a mattress soaked in silent, unseen tears.

Truth is reliving the nightmare, and cries in the middle of the night.
It is waking up at 2 with heart racing from reliving.
It is a fear a girl cannot express.
It is a life destroyed.

Truth is obfuscated between lawyers and affidavits.
It echoes the footsteps of the court.
It is early puberty, and unseen scars.
It is placed behind the lock and key, and the red seal on paper.

Truth is a frozen girl, naked on the shower floor.
It is a drawing of stick figures doing unspeakable things.
It is being scared to open the blinds, and unable to open doors and windows.
It is a girl hiding in the cupboard.

Truth is the silent scream behind closed doors.

Bright One

Shiny and oh so rare
Many just flock and stare

An anomaly you are
A beautiful shooting star

Darkness draws nigh
Up, up you shoot high

But caution, 'cause all eyes won't be cheering
Some, maybe many, will be fearing

Fearing your luminous light
A supernova in divine flight

Now, evil eye seething from afar
Obfuscated by the sight of a shooting star

Fret not for this is not your problem
It belongs to them, so they must solve them

In the meantime and in between time
Up, up, take flight with the Divine

Flowing, Glowing, and Growing without end
Suspending your initimable imprint longlasting

Yes

So shine bright, Bright One
Up, up like the morning sun

Shine on, Bright One
Your journey has just begun

Premium MemberMelody of Sadness and Joy

I hear the lovely dirge called Autumn Leaves.
It echoes back and forth in my obfuscated mind,
Part full of grief, part an ineffectual endeavour
To understand why, why bliss must follow heartache.
The trees around are so colourful, but I know,
Their leaves will fall to be trampled underfoot.
As much as you trampled underfoot our summer love.
Thus our winter of discontent is full of sad melodies.

But Spring is around the corner and flowers
Will cover everywhere like a colourful carpet.
Birds will sing full throttle their love songs
And a new love will be found in some perfumed lane.
Then my song will change, and I’ll embrace it with glee.
Maybe I’ll go for Roberta Flack - "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face",
Or better still “Just falling in Love”.
So, my heart will sing, and I’ll be happy as one can be,

The Returning Soldiers

I've felt Daren's absence for years,
a most unforgettable memory:
someone who was very close to me.
The long roaring ships cut
through the bubbling and whizzing waves,
and disappeared into the glimmering sea
while dusk obfuscated its brilliance;
unrest was a feeling of anxiety and fright:
how did a young soldier cope with the distance
when shivers brought shadows into his night?

Many noons I sat by this shore
bringing to life images of two buddies so youthful,
we hung out letting our spirits put on wings...
before seagulls would stifle our thrilled voices;
their shrills became much louder and more frightful,
awakening the clustered petrels!

I anxiously wait for the return of the ships,
too dreary is the soundless harbor;
I will greet the returning soldiers
who carry with them the horrors of the war!

Shall Rise

Night's dull dark imbued with horrid angst
Its coldness biting the clenched skin
Seas and oceans as silent as a feather floating in the wind
Trees sway grotesquely; impenetrable ghosts
Wind whistling spookily across the obfuscated world
Earth munching against the feet with muffled softness
Voices muzzled into sour silence
Men caged into drawn bounds
Livid lions jangle outside nations

But with time, with sure time
Darling dawn draws sanguinely to us
The eastern edges smile with yellow streaks
Dull dark's thawed like snow in summerday
The horrible night surrenders all that it grabbed
A ray of sunshine painted all over the faces
Oh! Shan't lament more in the anguishing dark-
For 'morrow t'shall rise!

Death By Turtle

Death by Turtle
(An Eagles Snack Kills Aeschylus)

With light along the quiet beach receding
Sun and sand sink on obfuscated facts
Great tragedian figures don't live forever in the past

Along the shore where Sicilian eagles lift their wings
To drop turtles from on high to crack a shell wide open
Where Aeschylus walks by
Turtles can not fly

They fall on strangers or someone famous
Perhaps a bald man who writes Greek tragedy
Just another rock according to a hungry eagle

The day goes south and sour for poor Aeschylus
Mundane walks should be as simple as a thought
Without objects falling from the sky on him

How strange is fate, a tragic twist, a comedy
Death by turtle is never kind or even great
But sure is quick
An eagles snack kills poor Aeschylus

The turtle survived but walks with a limp
Slower than usual and was never taken in for questioning
Poor thing lives with sad memories
We think the eagle quit the hard shell industry
Too many injuries

*Authors note: This happens to be a historical fact. Aeschylus was bludgeoned to death by a turtle dropped from on high by an eagle.

Distance

Lost cost lace of laugh dance decay delay relay reluctant repugnant repulsion revolver revolve dissolve disperse reverse of long songs sad sing said says suppressed

fallen fell off folded ferris wheels carousel dolls souless chamber hidden creak withered wood stood waving with finger nails hail storm of blood clots cherry topping onto dead snow crying blood into there faces white despite smite distance distanced

Dispersed like an ink tablet in an

Incident of distant desire fire
Melting wax faces in strange places
Become more detached the more i understand relapse.

Sanity Masquerade

The air slipped onto the gramaphone the needle cutting me bleeding on the floor as mannequins watched with there masquerade masks sewn on took my arm saying "care to dance my lady" as we waltzed into the night transcending emotions filled the room with essence as i laid head rested on his shoulders looking up around surround sound saying " i didnt think mannequins could tarantella like that " in the ballroom swinging in symetry.

Blood clotted dirt in the wound muddy dark night, disfigured body parts the flicker in my mind goes out again like a light in an obfuscated room, Drug fueled visions bottle hanging through whos that climbing through the windows fingertips single flick of the light switch painting of that ditch under the morgue worn torn asunder plunder linger gun slinger sling your hook look the parties over.

A Regretful Dream Awaking To Find It Has Slept With Pop Culture All Over Again

I sat at a table
It was a table for one;
There was a mirror
And a pay phone

Seated at the head,
They had all brazenly said:
"This, is ahead of its time"
- Then someone with an agenda
Started forming the lines,
Behind ulterior motives
To be the first to capitalize.

And pretty soon,
With the grand accessories
Of these mock identities,
We were all just living cartoons;
While our petty self-image
Obfuscated the truth
- There was only one presence,
Beneath the mask of our skin,
An emptiness of being,
Void of existential meaning.

Within the inner circle of youth culture,
Someone passed through
Something was familiar; nothing seemed new...
...Not to sound jaded by age
- But I've seen more recent advancement
In the Police State
Than I have in the common man as of late
- I guess some things really do never change?

Fortuitous Tutorial

Spirited meeting, don't faint
Real or surreal, it is momentary, as cannot stay long on the same plane
Want to protect from mirthless life's winding chimes
Only if it was easy as mending the book's spine
Rarely lurking demons underneath the bed
Don't waste yourself peeking beneath the bed
Blindfold daydreaming, lines you up to heaped relics of unsung martyrs in a sepulcher
Starkly outshine rabid prince makes shy away the vulture
Never be too soft or daft
Not completely at fault, for programmed specimen of the mightier craft
Amidst the bantering on lease
Just don't succumb to the whisper of inherited guilt please
In summation to any wrong answer
Even rustling waft of your ashes will be sneezed at
Don't plug out the sound of closing doors
Sign to focus on the right one just designed for you
Betide as it was destined
Brush frivolous talk aside as choice is destiny's invoice
Essential to periodical diuresis of precarious enslavement
Rejoice to all sensations, before obfuscated by life's retirement

Helen

Helen
©Ben Burton 5-11-15

A plane devoid of noises
Within a darkened cave
No words of consolation
Assuage the rants and raves

Awareness unattended
Has obfuscated will
But fluid through the fingers
Puts ink into the quill

She roars across forever
Four corners of the earth
The Alabama legend
Has made their voices heard

Mr Washington

Mr. Washington I want to know
what would you have to say?
as you gaze upon this land
if you were still alive today
what would be your thoughts
on a nation that lost its way
would you stand and fight?
like on that long ago day?

Mr. Washington would you stand by us?
would you stand by the American Nationalist?
to stand against left wing hate?
rebuttal looney lefts accusation of terrorist?
Is this the country you wanted?
or have they destroyed your vision?
your Constitution no longer applies here
Mr. Washington what would be your decision?

Mr. Washington do you remember Thomas Jefferson?
"it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government"
now would you still take up arms?
fight the tyrants with pure determinant?
what do you think about uncapped capitalism?
how about a multi racial society rotten to the core?
is this what you mean by all men are created equal?
or are your words obfuscated and what for?
