Came from Muskogee, Oklahoma;
As a teenager came to care for her elderly Auntie in Omaha;
Whereas she met her handsome older new Navy guy,
Two years later became her husband;
Birth 3 sons-one died nine months later
One born blind, nine months later came, I
A strong black woman died at 39 years
I miss you Mom didn't say I love you enough you see;
So endearing I thank God for thee;

Bad Years
By: Tom Wright

Twixt hard times, I scarcely remember,
though that's not to say there was no other.
Sleeping nights on a pallet till mid September,
under a willow tree, with Joe, my brother.
The hot July breeze
always brought an onslaught of harvest lice.
Riding the Zephyrs from fields being thrashed.
The nearing days of picking pumpkins would be nice,
scattered among cornstalks, together lashed.
Fall was nice
for that meant the weather would be cool.
But cotton fields begged to be stripped,
for school duds.
Too, that unsaid dread, of going back to school,
in clothes washed with brown lye soap,
that made no suds.
The Muskogee Free State Fair,
was a happening about this time.
The wildlife exhibits and livestock judging and care,
we could browse all day and not spend a dime.
Throughout this barn we would idly roam
securing things for free,
a winter stash of reading, to take back home.

My iguana bit my nose off in Muskogee
I'm ashamed I let myself run out of beer
If I'm caught driving sober to the grocery
They might deport my ass right out of here.

Out The Door
Country had many meandering hills
Full of so many chills and thrills
Good locking gal sat beside me
Right there where she should be.
I may be from mighty Muskogee
Where they like to do the bogie
And likely forgot to add the lo
Afraid it would get all over you.
All around things started moving
Were jumping, jiving and grooving
And then when my dress I tore
They threw me out the door.

Terrific Trip
Gotta get a long little doggie
Am making way to Muskogee
And will be there next day
My great guitar will play.
While we were in Wichita,
Just saw my ma and pa
And when we left again
Ended up in Hutchinson.
One more song sang so freely
Found way to great Greeley
Saw mountain tops all white
Disappearing into the night.
Continued on and did battle
All the way to Seattle
Continued on Westward bound
And Pacific heard its sound.
It sure was a terrific trip
Into past things did slip
After seeing a new dawn
To heaven I had gone.

If tomorrow never comes
Then Lord I hope this day is good
I'm just an okie from Muskogee
Carrying your love with me
I go walkin' after midnight
From a thousand miles from nowhere
Silver medals and sweet memories
Of what might have been
All is fair in love and war
And who needs pictures
Take this job and shove it
And this dirt road too
If we make it through December
I'll go on lovin' you
For this is however feels
My woman my woman my wife
After the fire is gone
Please make the world go away
I'd march from here to eternity
With sixteen tons strapped to my side
For the ships that don't come in
It must be killing time again
Thank God I'm American Made
And not a moment to soon
So darlin' give me one more day
For it's a great day to be alive
For I'm thankful for my home's in Alabama
And Please God bless the U.S.A
Trying a new song again LOL
