mermaid messes around with her magic hand
Spurts and sparks fly out across the water onto land.
I would not do that if I were you, a wise man says.
The next thing she knows she’s in a fishbowl with Inez.
Inez is miffed, her bowl is too full with this maid.
You need to go! You give me too much shade!
Mermaid whips her hand around in the air
And finds herself now in a grizzly bear’s lair.
I cannot get it right, she laments to the night.
You are okay, says the bear, you are all right.
But her fear is strong, her arm gives a shake.
She ends up in the middle of spirit lake.

I’m in awe of Him
The One who loves
Even my most messy efforts
Those verses I write
That don’t really delight
Even me, they seem
So disorderly, so muddled
That I would like to take them apart
And start over with something new
Something improved
But He loves even these cluttered
Tangled and confused
Inklings that survive my edits
And pour out my soul
My burdens and my thoughts
My needs and my praise
He loves even these,
My fumbles, my mixed-up dreams
He loves even these…
Because it is so very true,
His love is alive, thriving, surviving
Every test of time, every trial.
His love survives
Even my messes, my troubles
His love survives…
Because His love is alive
Like a fire, alive
On the inside, He abides
I am so very thankful… He is mine!
Romans 8:26(KJV) Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

I grew up with inches, yards, miles, and feet.
I knew the difference, it was easy, and neat.
But today I am far behind in the dust because
Metric scale is what the new math does.
Millimeters, centimeters, cha cha cha.
Pencil thickness is about one centimeter. Rah Rah Rah.
Ten Millimeters is one centimeter, reminds me of cents to a dollar.
I may be catching on, so I stand up and holler.
One hundred thousand centimeters is a kilometer, friend.
One hundred centimeters is a meter, did you know that, Uncle Ben?
Millimeters, centimeters, cha cha cha.
Paper thickness is way less than a centimeter. Rah Rah Rah.
Now I think of my recipes. Did they change the tablespoon too?
Do I have to worry about cups, pints, and gallons for my glue?
I used to know my measurements, but everything is new.
Don’t even show me the rest of the new math. It is a boo hoo.

Honestly I abhor the Rain
Russia-triggered in Ukraine
A deluge as finishing as A Plague
All its relevance fastened on The Vague…
Vladimir finally choosing to mess up,
All along longing to with the Devil Sup…
Consolingly I believe in Sanction,
Certain it falls not to function;
A trust in more closures of Russia’s Banks
For a corresponding reduction of battle-field tanks;
A booing at Wonderful Russian football
And rejection of their players’ footsteps as they fall.

He is deemed least likely to succeed in kindergarten
Cannot follow in a line, is horrible at being redundant
Never fits in with the rest of the cookie dough
Distorted immediately after being cut into a circle
He cannot be educated the teacher says in a note to his mother
He is Thomas Edison
She is strangely odd, her professor writes.
She does not take direction well, is disrespectful,
Is too strong willed, and will never be compliant.
She is so many modern women it is not funny
And they are all presidents of their own businesses now
I guess they could not do anything else
He is a mess; no home schooling.
No one can control him; he is a wild man.
He runs to Hollywood to star in movies.
No one has to tame him there.
He is a millionaire now.
But how can that be?
He did not finish school.
This does not compute.

Tuesday was the day that Saturn came crashing down out of the sky.
She fell with a plunk, many people thought they were going to die.
She got smaller and smaller, until she fell with a tiny little plink.
Saturn fell in my grandmother’s dark room, into her photogenic sink.
We grandkids asked Grams, should we share Saturn's plight?
Gram yelled. This is a dark room. Do not turn on that light!
Saturn spoke to us, using extraterrestrial telepathy.
She ate short bread cookies, and some of Grandma’s dandelion tea.
We kids do not keep secrets, so I guess you know bye and bye.
FBI came and began searching for Saturn. Grams said it was a lie.
Now two FBI agents are locked in basement – Pete and Old McSly.
Because Grams said if Mr. Lee turned on the light, he was gonna die.

Ladies of the Soup I bow in your honour
You curl up my toes, with images impure
My thoughts go askew
Bamboozled right through
Doing the naughties messes up my coiffure

A lot of the problems we face in our lives
are caused by too many excesses.
The state of things in the world today
cause too much stress and distress us.
Only through Christ and the power of prayer
can we conquer the things that opresses us.
Keep faith in God and trust in His might
to clean up humanities messes.

Br'er Rabbit me
still tries to best Tar Baby
still gets caught up
in the emotional mess
as an ego-maniacal half-wit
when the best approach
is to not approach,
as if staying out reach
and staying out of touch
were one-in-the same
as running like hell
in another direction.
But as a gluttonous masochist
two, maybe three, times each year
I'll stand within reach
and swing away. No.
That is not letting go.
