Luscious leaves brush against my face,
pulsing veins deep enough to trace
time with a wind gust embrace.
Maroon, copper, gold they dangle
glistening to sunset's angle
with zeal of wind chime's bangle.
Lully leaves descend freestyle
becoming a striking pile
beaconing a playful smile.
Before dried crunches can accrue,
lively, I toss a pile at you
and you become a child too.

Star angels, dance within the quartered, light,
Of lunars rise, the age of Virgos' flight,
Sense its need for virtuous surrender,
And abandon Dragon's breathing thunder,
Phasing anew splits the night horizon,
For the course exposed to half, has brightened,
Some dynamic tempo, magically,
Whereto, the expanse defies gravity,
Ventures beyond dusk and stretches for dawn,
Greets the vested midst the foes, thereupon,
Enters Pegasus who stomps and stresses,
North Star alights as hooved clouds releases,
Whilst spread wings flick and cast flight, Pegasus,
Then heralds the advent of Genesis.

(Think of the night just before our bombers flew over Bhagdad, beginning the first Gulf War)
The desert moon was empty that spring night
when sleepless, I arose, forsook my bed
and stumbled through the streets devoid of light
but from the stars, and then just overhead
I heard a mother singing of her love
while less ethereal flights beyond her range
drew closer, and would resound above,
a song elegiac, and soft, and strange.
I stopped, and listening, was thus beguiled:
"The shadows soon will pass. Allah is nigh.
Its time to close your eyes my darling child.
It's time for me to weep...for you to die."
