Premium Member Winter Sun

Our old dog, Xena, and I were up early, the legacy of age, I guess. As we started our walk, the air was crisp and still, the sky just beginning to show its blue with a faint orange tinge along the eastern horizon and Venus bright, untwinkling, above. No airplanes, an unexpected benefit of the pandemic.

As we crossed the bridge, the dark waters of the creek contrasted with the white snow covered fields. I headed up the hill to take in the view but Xena waited below investigating new smells. Two worlds one visual the other olfactory. The realization that all this happens every morning only intensifies the wonder.

winter sun rises
bearing false promise of warmth
my coat keeps me

Premium Member The Warrior Princess

Don’t think me fragile, quick to break
No, don’t ever make that mistake
My warrior spirit’s deep and strong
I can avenge when faced with wrong
I am the Warrior Princess

I gallop on the my mighty steed
Brandish my sword, fulfill my need
What my eyes crave, I swoop to take
No human dares this heart to break
I’m the Warrior Princess

With mad abandon, I make love
With eagle talons, I’m no dove
I subjugate, and I command
Full surrender to each demand
I’m the Warrior Princess

When you think me supple and weak
The fire in my eyes will speak
I play a role, capture your soul
I dominate not part but whole
I am the Warrior Princess

In my veins the power to rule
No man can play me for a fool
Yes, he may think my heart is won
But can you hold the blazing sun?
I’m the Warrior Princess

My fierce passion, you cannot match
Your body from her bed I’ll snatch
Ravish you till I’ve had my fill
Might let you live or I might kill
FOR I’M THE WARRIOR PRINCESS

Eileen Manassian Ghali

Premium Member You Said

You said you wouldn't do it
You'd NEVER break my heart
You said that you would keep it
And not let it fall apart

You said that you would cherish
Hold dear each word I say
You said that you would love me
All through the night and day

You said that I’m a beauty
I'm sure you said..."Divine!"
You said that I’m alluring
In all ways quite sublime

You said I'm super sexy
With power to turn "on"
You said you love my tresses
You said your heart I’d won

You said...you said...you said
I heard...and...I believed
And yet I’m left to wonder
Why now all alone…I bleed

This is a rant...You can see it in a broad sense as a rant against men who with words of honey, make women fall for them and then leave.... Oh...Chapter two...REVENGE of the jilted woman! HA HA! "For heaven knoweth not the wrath of a woman scorned!" Xena mode coming ON! Join me, women, will you? ;)

Premium Member Seven Dog Lives

It is easy to forget that in the main we die only seven times more slowly than our dogs.
Jim Harrison (1937 - 2016) - The Road Home

First Bobo, a cocker spaniel,
I remember only from pictures.
He ran way before we moved
to Canada when I was four.

Second Kizzie, a cockapoo, Mom got
when the family moved to Texas.
I only saw her on holidays and such
as I stayed in Canada. She lived
long and was with the folks when they
retired to British Columbia and was
into her teens before they put her down.

Third Sadie, 3/4 Newfie - 1/4 Bernese,
a big black dog, with a big appetite
for apples from a special tree and
the socks our daughter, a toddler
cast off around the house.
I still chuckle remembering
the scattered remnants lining
the farm lane that spring.
She was over ten, and in pain
when we put her down.
Her ashes remain in an urn in the garage.

Fourth Rizzo, a fencejump cross of
Gordon Setter and Belgian Shepherd,
my wife and daughter got him from
a friend, while I was off on a canoe trip.
A headstrong dog who would take off after
a scent or car to return when he pleased.
On leash, he'd almost pull you off your feet.
With age, he grew territorial and
after the third biting incident, I took
him to the vet to be put down.
But she gave him to an older lady
with a fenced yard who put thirty
pounds on him and he lived to
fourteen or fifteen.

Fifth Hailey, who was five when
we got her from the shelter.
A Border Collie - Shepherd cross
and definitely our daughter's dog.
She'd bounce foxlike through the fields
and on evening beach walks, loved
to fetch sticks we'd toss into the waves.
She was over fifteen and failing when
we put her down, days before
our daughter's wedding.
No urn this time.

Sixth Xena, a Shepherd-Collie cross
and beyond doubt a  princess
but more sweetheart than warrior.
She has the canine equivalent
of ADD and a bark first policy
when something new appears
and will retrieve sticks or balls
until your arm falls off .
At over eight, she's running strong.

Seventh, Sam, a mostly Shepherd mix,
she's our most 'rescue' rescue dog,
smart, loyal and obedient
a wantobe lap dog with a feral streak.
She responds in kind to aggressive
dogs and we muzzle her on walks.
Now five she'll be with us for a
good while to continue the tally.

Alan Allston ate an addictive piece of cake.
Bertie bounced his bouncy ball by the bus stop but his brother caught the bouncy ball before the bus came.
Claire, Clara, Chloe and co built a sculpture of Charlie out of snow.
David danced with Dani in a dance club in Derby.
Eliza's enormous elephant squirted water at an eagle.
Frances frantically searched, quite flushed, for Freddie's friendly frog.
General enquiries? Go Google it!
Henry hated hula hoops and Hungry Hippos.
Ingenious Ignatius invented an intelligence of sorts.
Jackie's Jaguar Jasper liked jumping giant fences.
Kind King Knowles knows what's best for his kingdom.
Larry limped lightly after he had a nasty fall.
Mary played Moana in a school production.
Nobody notices November's rain, not since winter has arrived again.
Oops! Oh no! It's happened all over again!
Pedro, Perdy and Poots played bagpipes in the middle of Boots!
Quality Street for quiet times.
Rita raised an eyebrow when she got the rhyme wrong!
Some slimy slugs saw Sid Sidewinder slithering slowly singing silly songs.
To tell you the truth, Tea's just right for me.
The unhappy unicorn kept dry under her umbrella.
Vera the violet vulture was very hungry.
The winds were whistling a wintry tune.
Xena played her xylophone while Xander was having his x-ray.
Yesterday's Yellow is today's Gold.
Zoe's zebra stared at her as she zealously expressed her views on Zoom.

Premium Member Warrior Princess Returns

I ride the wind on passion’s mighty steed
A Warrior Princess filled with hungry eyes
I take what pleases and I fill my need
My mane is raven black; see how it flies

I know desire’s lusty craving flame
And beauty is the weapon of my choice
I take as captive him with mystic name
A sultry siren with seductress voice

My captive I lay down beneath the tree
I ravish him all night and get my thrill
He’s bound and helpless though he’s been set free
He longs to do my bidding and my will

I smile up at the stars and sigh with glee,
For Warrior Princess name befitting me

Eileen Manassian

Those of you who have been here for a while will remember the Warrior Princess title! It started when one of my students told me that I remind him of Xena, the Warrior Princess. I wrote a poem in that Persona and then another poet, Richard Lamoureux, wrote a poem honoring me. Here are the links for both poems for those of you interested in going back in time. Well...She rides again! I'm feeling invincible!

Premium Member THE CROWN JEWELS

THE CROWN JEWELS
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Queen Xena, a squirrel, was a female hoarder beyond measure,
for her crown jewels she surely did treasure.
     she hid them in the kingdom’s storage locker
     along with the fact that she was a punk rocker
The keys and her reputation were safe, safeguarded by her personal dresser.
Then it came to pass, surely you’ll gasp!
Xena’s jewels were lost, away from her claw-like grasp.
     “Oh what’s become of my jewels, I’m coming undone.
     I’ll find the perpetrator and shoot him with my pea gun.”
“Who’s the perp?”  You just had to ask.
Eyewitnesses said, “The thief wore a black mask, was ‘big clawed.
We seen him scampering about the forest and the royal quad.”
     At police headquarters, they wrote their statements
     Xena filed an insurance claim, believing in suspect’s escapement.
Later texted her friend, the masked racoon. “No one suspects us of insurance fraud.”
The Circus - a Tautogram
Amazing acrobats astound awe-stricken audiences.  Amy always asks about acts already arranged.
Bouncing bears balance beach balls.  Bobby Bear bicycled behind Betsy Bear.
Crazy clowns crash carelessly.  Carousels circle clockwise.
Daring demonstrations dazzle dazed dreamers.  Dopey donkeys dance diligently.
Elegant elephants elate everyone, eating everything enjoyable.  Eight elephants execute exciting entertainment.
Forty-five feisty flamethrowers fiercely fight fires.
Great Gambino gulps gigantic gems gingerly, giving gasping gazers giggles.  Genuine gigantic gorillas gaze goofily.
Hefty horses heave hefty hounds, howling harmoniously.  Heavyweights hurl hug hippos.  “Hasn’t hurt him,” Hugo Heavy huffed.
Iris indicated it’s impolite if I’m interested in inquiring into immersion into icing.
Joshua juggled joyfully.  Jeremiah just jumped jackasses.
Kissing kangaroos kiss kids kindly.  Karate kicking kids keep kicking.
Lions lounge lavishly leaving lookers laughing loudly.  Lollipop licking llamas licked Lional Lion lovingly.
Many men make mountainous merriment.  Mules march, munching Mayberries.
Nineteen nutty nags named Nancy nudge naysayers near nets.
Orange orangutans obey old-timers, opening obese objects.
Portly Peter Penguin parades past pretty Penny Penguin.  Penny paused, politely preening.  People purchase peanuts.
Quilting-bee queens quickly quiet quails.  Quarantined quibbling quackers quickly quiet.
Rabbits run rampant.  Robert requests refreshments.
Silly seals steamroll stalled stallions, snorting soundly.  Six stallions stomp successively, surrounding such silly seal.
Tumblers take to the trapeze.  Three tall tents tower, taller than two tightropes, two trapezes, three tumblers.
Ursula untied ugly umbrellas.
Vexed Venetians volleyed violently.
Wondrous wide-eyed watchers wooed weighted-down wagons.
X-rays x-hausted Xena
Youngsters yelled, yanks yelped.
Zany Zelda’s zebras zigzagged.
