AUGUST FLOOD, LION MOUNTAIN LANDSLIDE
BY SIMEON AUSTIN DAVID PANGU AKA MR SENATOR
To bed they went wishing good night,
With zest they opt to wake up and do their chores with all their might.
Rain falling from the sky, we know it was a blessing,
Tears rolling through Sierra Leone's eyes...(Pause) God knows the reason
The earth shrink as the flood came,
Beautiful faces were never the same.
It came too fast, our smile it wipes
Yesterday beautiful songs, today sorrowful cries
Good will, aspirations and innovations buried in the mud
Your Tomorrow's agend is all we have left to remember as we mourn.
Yesterday was the naming day, Today the mourning day.
Father couldn't get to watch you as your grow old and play.
Vimto tastes like vinegar in our mouths,
As youth left for the dead and survivors to scouts.
Mother, father the voice of their children calling,
Father couldn't see son, mother couldn't heard her daughter crying.
Numbers cannot be numbered,
John couldn't be recognized by his own brother.
Oh! God why the rain?
Why our faces are not the same?
Why the earth, the earth it couldn't hold?
thus on our backs the rocks must roll?
Water is life but lives now it take?
Why, must on my Nation's mind fear made?

POEM: I GROW WHERE I'M PLANTED.
BY SIMEON A.D. PANGU
Though I write rhyme
But I can't sing,
It not a limitation neither a crime,
I do it with pleasure for the joy it bring,
I can't paint neither draw,
Yet the beauty of it I always adore,
I love water yet I can't swim,
At the beach I try to capture every emotional scene.
I have multiple of talent that the fact,
But I will always grow where I am plant,
Being Jack of multiple trade, master of none,
Never would I, for in it I found no fun.
Not because I am afraid of sudden failure just by trying,
But one day you will come to realize,
Without birth, their is no need for dying,
So my priority I will always prioritize,
My major I'll major, minor I'll minor
Never would I minor in my major, or major in my minor.
Life if not a game of chance,
For you'll never stay in the same romance
Opportunity come but once, people say,
Opportunity keeps on reoccurring, if on a career you chose to stay.
All my eggs on one basket I will put,
Just well I prepare the basket for my eggs to put.
If you can't dance neither act,
Teaching is another version of art.
Talent no one is born without,
Ours We don't get to know, for void we tend to scout.
I dont do because I found it comfortable,
But let the end product to others be pleasurable.
Use your talent, on others to create positive impact,
For NOAH is always remembered for just building an ark, which is a single act.

Meditation on the 4th Joyful Mystery:
The Presentation at the Temple
The baby Jesus who was born in Bethlehem
(Was brought by Mary & Joseph to Jerusalem)
To be offered to God in His temple
(According to the tradition of the Jewish people)
This is the 4th Joyful Mystery – The Presentation at the Temple
There they met a prophet named Simeon
(Who prophesied that Jesus will be the glory of the Jewish nation)
And there was also a prophetess by the name of Anna
(Who prophesied to Jerusalem the coming of its Messiah)
The fruit of this mystery – Obedience
Oh God who had made Jesus Thy offspring
(Unto Thee a sacred offering)
The God who makes His Only Begotten Son
(A sacrifice for Him, for me, for you, for everyone)
As “The Presentation at the Temple” had shown “Obedience”
Lord God, like in “The Presentation at the Temple”, we want to obey Thee always
(Whatever trials & temptations come our ways)
Like the Holy Family who unto Thee obeys
(We want to obey the Lord God all our days)
Praise God! We realized “Obedience” through the 4th Joyful Mystery.

*Meditations on the Mysteries of the Holy Rosary
Living a life looking after my sheep
being a shepherd all my days
learning well the tools of the trade
there on my knees daily prays
But this baby I had came to see
was spoken of by prophets of old
the messiah that Isaiah spoke of
come as the people had been told
Here he was before my eyes
Jesus the messiah came to save
to shine his light into the dark
for our sins this saviour gave
This babe conceived by holy spirit
is God himself covered by human skin
to grow up as indeed son of man
?one day to die for humanity's sin
This moment I never will forget
my eyes like Simeon saw my salvation
this is the love of God incarnate
bringing to earth eternal redemption
Beyond speech
Before the words
Even leave your lips
Thinking about thinking
Looking at your thoughts
I see the building blocks
Of your breaking down
It's noisy sound image
An abstract tree growing concepts
In a forest needing life
* Simeon wages its demise
Beyond the tip of your tongue
After supper, when the words
Have left your mouth
All your childhood questions
Still unanswered
It's branches are torn apart
Your tree positioned
Without arches pays a fee
To this living organism
For it's inorganic accretions
*Simeon wages it's demise
Beyond the after thought
Your prose has brought about
There's no going back
Past the Temple's entrance
No chugalugging in reverse
Like dead dogs guarding
White noise on a mountain
Jubilations and alleluias are
Revelations so gloriously bright
They hurt the eyes
*Simeon wages its demise
Beyond the pandemonium
Of your chitchat usage
On the far right of a good way off
Your thirty tongues
Those serpentine monsters
Are tangled in green homilies
No more conversations needed
Not listening but watching
Your gold watch a-tick tock ticking
It's running against time all-embracing
*Simeon wages its demise
Unsanctioned quiet
Never looks back
Too much said
Is always too late.
There are many words for frost
This is the house your words built
You might have lost your tongue altogether
Like blind passion without a mission
Not even your homing pigeon can
Any longer hear you out.
*Simeon wages its demise
In the waters of the Flood,
Flowerbeds softly turned to mud,
Rose riv’let fingers from the sea,
At first caressing seemed to be,
And flickering breezes, gentle still,
Coursed cool on sunlit stony hill.
Mara, wife of Simeon,
Seeing that the beach was gone,
In mixture of delight and fear,
To see the sea called children near,
Young Imma, Hanan, Joshua,
Gazed down amazed at what they saw.
In the waters of the Flood,
Unpaved pathways frothed to mud,
And rising winds blew waves at walls,
That frightened beasts within their stalls;
And frightened were the children too:
But Simeon’s heart no quivering knew.
“Father, can you save us from the storm?”
“Faith in God will keep us warm.
There’s a Father far above,
Who protects us with His love.”
In the waters of the Flood,
Rose the turgid waves of mud,
And as the failing sun sunk down,
The conquering night fell on the town,
In flashing light swept homes away,
The valley swallowed by the bay.
“Father, is it meant for us to die,
Grown and children, broken by the sky?”
“Though the world has gone insane
In the violent lashing rain,
Hold my hand, we shall remain.
Hold your faith and have no fear,
Though the waters grow so near.”
And he said, though less he knew,
“Hold my hand, no fear in you,
There’ll be mercy ere it’s through.”
The children took a comfort quite,
Their father’s strength in crashing night,
And the mother of them all
Clung most tightly to the small,
As she wept a missing doll.
In the waters of the Flood,
In malignant, violent mud,
Soon drowned in agony and terror,
In currents pulsing everywhere,
Friends floated by stout Simeon’s feet,
Their glassy stare in driving sleet.
“Evil have we to match this?
Let the Lord then have His bliss:
Sure, our lives He will not miss.
Die in courage, then, my son,
Hold me tightly, till it’s done.”
When the waters did recede,
‘Midst the piled aquatic weed,
By the thousand miles there spanned,
Stenching corpses cross the land,
Loved and killed by God’s soft hand.
In the waters of the Flood,
Died the living and their blood.
And the Lord, in viewing this,
Thought a rainbow not amiss.
What Is My Name?
What is my name?
My name
Is a tag.
What is my name?
My name
Is what follows me.
What is my name?
My name
Is what I want to be.
What is my name?
My name
Is what I am.
Your name is your
Identify.
What is your name?
My name
Is what am experiencing
His name was changed;
From Abram to Abraham
From sarai to Sarah
From Jacob to Is Israel
From Jabez to Joy
From Simeon to Peter
What is your name?
My name is Oguodugodo!
Then Oguodogodo! follows you.
If you are called after
The name of God,
Then God follows you.
If you are called
After the name
Of an Idle,
Then an Idle
Follows you.
Like a shadow
Tinting every lighting
Like a hurdle
Its follows you
Blocking every progress
Then in struggles
You fine you.
Its follows you;
Like a tag,
Its hung around
Your neck.
Like an odour
Its clings to you.
Like a smoke
Its peppers.
Like wind it blows
Though you might
Not see it from
The other realm.
If they call you the name
Of hardship,
The sorrow follows you
Ask Jabez.
If they call you
The name of wants
Then poverty
Follows you.
If they call you the name
Of wealth
Then riches
Follows you.
Ask Father Abraham
What is your name?
My name is Gideon Idudje O
Then God's strength
And Blessings
Follows me.
At FIRST, there was a need for battle strategy.
At FIRST, there was concern about 'WHO'.
So, at FIRST, there was a question about 'FIRST'.
Also, at the very FIRST, they knew WHO to ask about
'FIRST things'. So, FIRST, they asked The Lord,
"WHO shall go to battle FIRST?" God said, "Send Judah FIRST".
Thereafter, Judah always went FIRST. FIRST, Judah asked Simeon
to help him, FIRST. With their 'FIRST Strategy', they won their
FIRST battles. Unlike Abbott and Costello, everyone knew WHO was
to be FIRST. In Abbott and Costello's comedy script, after more than
6 minutes, there were still 'FIRST confusions' about WHO. Like Israel,
our FIRST priorities in life must be direct and defined communications.
As I recall, it was the second of four years of college in a study for the gospel ministry. It was my World History class that was being taught by a very learned instructor who was also the president of the college.
That particular class day led us to a passage of scripture in the 13th chapter of Acts. As the passage was being read, our instructor had us to pause and give attention to verse one in the text. The chapter recorded the gathering of leaders of the faith with the intention and plan of setting aside and sending out missionaries. In the group were certain prophets and teachers. Noted among the group were four men. Barnabus, Simeon that was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, and Saul.
Our instructor directed our attention to Simeon that was called Niger. What happened next planted a seed of belonging and trust within me that has served me well throughout my life. He was a large man with a heavy voice, and every fiber of his being beamed with the fragrance of authority. He demanded that no one was to ever in any way use the text about Simeon's race in a derogatory manner. You could have heard a pin fall, and no one as much as asked a question or made a statement, because they knew where the teacher was coming from.
It was a class of white students with one lone black student in the person of myself. On this major subject in the late 60s, our instructor both defined to me and demonstrated an object lesson of what it means to be 'proactive'*. In my own mind, he had spoken volumes and built a proactive dame, holding back any potential floods of prejudice or racism.

When Mother Mary and St. Joseph brought baby Jesus to the temple for His presentation and consecration
A devout man named Simeon proclaimed big things about the life of their Son
An Ominous aside
He told Mother Mary that she would be pierced with a sword
That isn’t quite the fortune a sweet mother wants to hear
Yet Mother Mary accepted her fate
Just as gracefully as she did
When she learned she was pregnant
Her acceptance reminds us that love is an honor and a privilege
When we love deeply, we make ourselves vulnerable to deep pain
This is the finest pain of all
Sacrifice of the highest order
Eternal God will equip as to love like this
Eternal God will comfort us when it hurts
