Happy Trails

Upon the floor I lay,
Glued to the black-and-white TV set
In my western-patterned flannel PJs,
Toting a cap gun holstered at the waist
And a whistle tethered
To my cowboy hat chinstrap.

With my hands cradling my face,
And my arms bent at the elbows
To support the weight,
And my restless legs waving
With my bare feet fluttering,
I watched the Lone Ranger
And his sidekick, Tonto
Round up outlaws
To bring to justice
In the old Wild West.

He wore a white hat,
And covered his face with a mask,
And loaded silver bullets
Into his Peacemaker’s chambers,
Unafraid of dying
In my childhood mind.

And I cheered for the Lone Ranger,
When upon his horse, he galloped
Down the road at the end of the show,
Shouting, “Hi-Yo, Silver! Away!”
But Roy Rogers was my hero,
And Dale Evans was the girl I adored.

Because he sat tall in the saddle
And cast a long shadow
When he rode on Trigger
At the Double R Bar Ranch.
His throat was bone-dry,
But his eyes glittered
When he sang campfire songs
Under the California sky.

And she sat tall in the saddle
When she rode on Buttermilk
And trotted right up
To the carrot in my heart,
And she said, “Buckle up, buckaroo,
If you want to be my hero.
Dust yourself off now,
And get back in there.”
She was the girl I adored.

And I would watch
Roy Rogers and Dale Evans
Ride into the sunset
At the end of the show.
They would wave their hats
While singing “Happy Trails”
And say, “See you tomorrow.”
He was my hero,
And she was the girl I adored.

And I knew there would be a tomorrow,
And I would never grow old,
Watching the Roy Rogers
And Dale Evans show.

The "Roy Rogers Show" was an American family western TV series that ran from 1951 to 1957 on NBC.

New Year Dreams

I'm barely at the cusp of January and I have already hoped for so many things
that are dearer to me then life itself. Such as mental health, good breath, and
strong family bonds.
I will never fall short of hope nor give up on my dreams
Last year past by like a blur and there where so many challenges to overcome
putting my sidekick to sleep after 14 years of dedication, saying goodbye to a
mother who always provided me with the bare essentials and so much more
I will never fall short of hope nor give up on my dreams
I made a resolution to be the best authentic self I can be this year and to live
like I'm dying tomorrow and living forever both in simultaneous opes for
a better tomorrow. No sacrifice will be to small for this joureny of brave love
I will never fall short of hope nor give up on my dreams
As I grow older it seems that life because much simpler and good bread is
as important as a piece of dark chocolate once in a while. I promise myself
not to grow bitter with the passing of time and to say thank you every day.
I will never fall of short hope nor give up on my dreams

Premium Member Map for You

I have found a map for you my pal Mary Lee said
I was excited, because she has great ideas for me
but can’t we go together? I asked her.
Not this time, maybe the next one.

Three naysayers said there must be something wrong
Why wouldn’t she want to go? It might be a trap.
I knew my friend would not steer me on a wild calf chase.
I ignored their negativity; as I always do.

Mary Lee stayed home with her livestock
and I set off, with a trusty sidekick, Merriweather.
Merriweather adores everything about me.
She builds me up and chases unkind people away.

Two of the naysayers sent me mean texts.
Warning me that this might be a trap.
I did not find the fountain of youth this time
But Merriweather and I got closer.

And I remembered why I cut naysayers lose.
I blocked both of their names and numbers.
Knowing my life would get easier.
And it did.

FORGOT HOW MUCH I LOVED SCRUBS

tears roll in big drops, as the credits roll.
dressed up in tailored suits, friends
comfort a doctor dealing with death.

~

first act, he insults, doesn’t care,
drops sarcasm like a sarcophagus.
stabs interns with his relentless words.

but they wear their comradery-uniform,
bordering him left to right and behind.
one hand on each shoulder.

and he lets them take care of him,
allows his sarcasm a reprieve,
wholly-enveloped in tears for
his sidekick-brother,

a chapter forever closed
in a flowering coffin -
an uncle his child would never meet.

~

tears roll in big drops, as the credits roll.
dressed up in tailored suits, friends
comfort a doctor dealing with death.

If I Were An Elephant

If I were an elephant
I know just what I'd do
I'd pack my trunk with all my junk
And move far from the zoo

I'd bring with me my monkey
Best friend and sidekick Preston
If memory correctly serves me
He's a whiz at giving directions

Cause I'd like to move to Timbuktu
Either that or Kathmandu
One thing is clear as long as it's not here
Any old place will do

I'd then open up a doughnut shop
Run by Preston the monkey and me
Where we would toss sprinkles on top
With banana creme in-between

We'd be known far and wide for our doughnut delights
Oh and fancy schmancy eclairs too
Yes if I were an elephant
That's exactly what I would do

Wouldn't you?

Premium Member Tell Me a Story

Tell me a story about a person's adventure
where they went and what they what they did
tell me who they interacted with and what was crazy.
Tell me what mistakes they made,
and the lessons they learned.
Tell me a story that makes me feel good,
but some stories make me really mad.
Tell me a story about an animal,
crawl inside the mind of the beast.
Let me know if the animal interacted with a human
in ways good or in ways really bad.
Was the animal in your story a hero
or just a sidekick?
Maybe you have a story about a fictional character
who floats on the clouds up above.
Or maybe the fictional character
rakes the embers of the underworld below
after all your fictional charter was the villain of the show.
But when you tell me a story of any kind
the time we are together will be quality time.

Premium Member Captain America Vs Adolph Hitler

1941, Captain America and his sidekick Bucky
are tied to events of the WW II era
with many victories over the Third Reich
all very daring and dangerous . . .
but Captain America in a "Nazi" punching rage
     actually punching out Adolph Hitler
that became Marvel Comics most iconic moment
               and controversial too ...
because Adolph Hitler was still alive at the time
it would be like punching out Vladimir Putin today
would that not be grand to see . . .
oh, that Hitler punch . . . a moment still echoing to this day
though, some say that it was a bit brutal
                           for the peaceful and wholesome
Captain America image. . . .but, I say go for it Captain

Premium Member A Letter To Salicious Crumb

Dear Salacious Crumb, where did you go?
I saw what Luke did to the sail barge,
as Leia jumped off I witnessed the blow;

Echoes of your ceremonious laugh
lingered after that swift disappearance;
Did Skywalker hit you with a Skiff’s staff?

Bib Fortuna cackled ‘He’s no Jedi.’
I have a feeling you saw through all that;
You know all the smugglers who stop by;

Personal sidekick of Jabba The Hutt,
it’s logical you’d know how to escape
right out of a hidden palace shortcut;

Could have traveled to another planet,
or hidden with those wild desert Jawas;
You’re known for being such a sly bandit;

If not on Tatooine where have you been?
Where in a galaxy far far away?
I gotta know; Sincerely, a Star Wars fan.

The Lone Ranger and Tonto

I fight injustice in the west and help people who are in danger.
When my brother was murdered, I became the Lone Ranger.
I bring outlaws to justice wherever I go.
I couldn't do it without the help of my Indian sidekick, Tonto.

People constantly think that I'm an outlaw because I wear this mask.
They want to take it off but they learn that removing it isn't an easy task.
Tonto and I always beat the bad guys by using our wits and our fists.
When we're done, the outlaws have handcuffs slapped on their wrists.

I ride Silver who is my trusty steed.
We always help those who are in need.
I only use silver bullets and so far Tonto and I haven't failed.
We will always protect the innocent and send outlaws to jail.

Premium Member Skookum Jim

Skookum Jim wuz born the son uv a Chief uv the Tagish Injun tribe.
Ain't much known about his youth - ain't no totem left to describe.
'Tis known he wuz born in the Yukon where man struggles to survive;
Where a man must hunt and fish fer grub - 'tis a wonder he stays alive!

Fer years Skookum packed supplies frum Skagway up the Chilkoot Pass.
'Tis said he was as straight as a rifle barrel and strong as a barnyard ass!
'Tis alleged he toted 156 pounds uv bacon up the pass on one uv his trips,
Strugglin' through sleet, rain and streams - snow reachin' nigh his hips!

'Tis claimed that Skookum Jim discovered gold along ripplin' Rabbit 'Crick',
And started the frenzied Klondike Gold Rush wieldin' his spade and pick!
His sidekick, old George Carmack, who 'married' Jim's sister Kate,
Also takes credit fer the find leavin' the truth wide-open fer debate!

Skookum Jim worked frum dawn to dusk diggin' in the icy slime and muck,
He struck it rich, as the sayin' goes - the more he dug the more he struck!
Many's the night he spread spruce boughs fer his couch in the blowin' snow,
And feasted on beans and bacon fried on campfires at thirty-five below!

He showed up at Mulroney's Roadhouse in loud plaid shirts and gaudy ties.
Jim wuz treated as a white man now and could imbibe in beers and ryes!
As his end neared, Jim made final preparations includin' a coffin and stone.
Alas, few have heard of Skookum Jim who died rich, yet all alone!
