Premium Member Raining In Summer

The charcoal cloud miasmic,
melts in the ashen scorched sky,
summer drizzle descends
with the fascinating flotilla
that floats in the arid air.
The seeping spectrum
of the setting scarlet sun
sparkles on the slanting splash
of the rain drops,
soaking the singed malachite meadow,
exudes pervasive petrichor,
saturating the blazing ambiance.

From the moistened crack
of the desiccated soil
sprouts an olivine sapling
after waiting a long while,
spreads tender emerald leaves,
cradling a cute bud,
glistened by the touch
of the rhapsodic rain,
the pink petals unfurl,
draped with twilight tinge.
They dance in summer breeze
with the radiant rain drops,
turning into pearls,
reflecting the rainbow hues.

With the falling sultry dusk
the sprinkling sky sinks,
wavers with the cadence
of the serenading rain drops,
cascading with soft musical torrent
on the misty pane
of my dripping window.
The rain of nostalgic joy,
that beguiled the lost youth
returns innately inspired
to morph into meandering rows
in the ballet of dancing rills,
I feel roll with silent symphony
in the euphoric sanctum of my soul.
I hear my mesmerized heart
sing the rain song,
captivating for a while
the memory of the melodic youth,
that wanders in the rhythm of splatter
with the downpour of delight
beyond the arch of rainbow ecstasy
in the clement days
of raining in summer.

Reliving Upside Down
                     by Odin Roark

The Jungle Gym geodesic glistened,
Afternoon showers dripped,
Languorous droplets fell,
Saturating sand below,
Just like then.

Bench of parents
Reflected memories old,
Stroller wheels struggling,
Obstinate sand as obstacle,
Giggles and screeches
From canopy covered pram,
Bumpy ride for my brother,
His laughter, sheer joy.

Fathers,
Mothers,
Sitters and nannies,
Attentive to children’s every move.

So many eyes saw me
Atop the dome’s iron lattice,
Hanging by my legs,
Seeing the world upside down,
Shouting, “Look at me, Grandpa!”

He didn’t notice this day,
His sudden slumped body,
Dropped the half eaten sandwich
To the ground.

Part of me wanted not to upright my view,
That safety of abstract vision so foreign then,
So understandable now,
So strangely comforting then,
So painful now.

I now straddle atop the bars,
Thinking thirty-three years haven’t made it easier,
Save the bench now replaced
The sand succeeded by concrete,
The tenders and watchers now often of different purpose,
Staring at me not knowing
I’m anything but a nut case.

Some of us just discover
Life’s remembrances
Sometimes prophesy what is to come.

Some, like me, will realize
Their whole adult life is programmed upside down,
Its sophisticated induction lures escapees
Into free-for all playground-workplaces
Where capture so often comes by way of
Pills,
Powder,
Liquid
Needles.

I smile.
Swing down to the ground,
Throw an embrace to Grandpa’s bench,
Look up and shout…
“Reliving upside down moments of love is okay.
Really…
It’s okay.”

In the undulating landscape of confused existence,
I walk my confounded life on the path of illusion,
chase the mirage of endless desires.
I wander disillusioned in the wasteland,
seeking the sense of being in the ethereal domain,
I am trapped in the web of mortal quagmire.

Trying to be free from the mundane clutch
of the karmic destiny of captivity,
the perception of divine conscience suffuses me,
and transcending the limits of time and space,
I implore God to show me the path of journey inward,
for perpetual bliss I yearn to embrace.

As the bud of my soul serenely unfurls,
blooming the divine flower of awareness,
I perceive the grace of His bequest,
saturating me with aura of felicity.
I then discern the beauty of the enlightened life,
blessed by the benevolence of God.

In the tranquility of heavenly consciousness,
like the limitless sky of His munificence,
I soar like a bird on the wings of devotion,
float in the boundless cosmos of eternal peace.
My liberated soul flies free
in the euphoric firmament of ultimate salvation.

I Didn'T Answer, I Didn'T Need To

I didn’t answer, I didn’t need to

How did this happen,
amidst words, phrases,
stones skipped on poetic ponds
Not looking for or expecting
a touch to the heart, a caress,
yet it came

I fell, head first into a joy,
a blissful feeling
I had not felt before
You said the same,
wishes made on coins tossed
had finally come true

Holding hands without touching,
kissing over counted miles
and borderlines of snow
We sang together, harmonies,
lyrics of love from our hearts,
melodic compositions formed of dreams

Picked flowers, daisies, tulips
from the gardens of pure affection
blooming all around us
It seemed no walls,
barriers could hold us back
as we ran towards each other

Then appeared a river, wide, raging
A chasm of worry and fear
was flowing across our paths
Now a deluge of falling tears
filling, overflowing it banks
making footing uneasy, difficult

And we sit on opposite sides
staring at each other, reaching
for something that seems so far out of reach
Dark clouds roll in, threatening
but we stay, standing on the muddy shores
wondering what will become of us in this flooding

“I can’t” you weep facing
deep obstacles, a current too strong,
pulling you in different directions
A drenching downpour of emotions
saturating your decisions with doubt
as you wave goodbye

“Wait” I shout, “I will swim to you!”
But your eyes are too wet
and your heart is a breaking levee
Diving in anyway I am swept away,
pulled under, unable to breathe, choking
watching you fade as you turn away

Hope is gone, fears have overshadowed desires
drowning in what is lost,
trapped in the rapids of disappointment
When a hand grabs me, lifts me, saves me…
I open my eyes on the other side to see,
it is yours

You cradle me in your arms
and I breathe, the most wondrous breath
When suddenly clouds part and the sun
illumines your face as you whisper,
“You truly do love me, don’t you?”
I didn’t answer, I didn’t need to…you knew

Saturday Morning May 13th 2023

They hit the road before the break of dawn kicking down doors rattling gates and slamming car doors. “The computer people a goh kill the woman ova there so, we a goh murder her!” threat come echoing from behind the wall saturating fear through the modern roof.

The commotion continues throughout the wee hours of the morning and the turbulence shows no sign of stopping, the shouts and the threat continues and when I could not bear to listen to it anymore; I took a walk out door to examine what was on the floor and the excitement speed off about seventy miles per hour up the road, and a woman’s voice shouted, “A mi alone in a the car now” It didn’t sound logical but I could analyze its meaning.

I continued my work in the early morning and the traffic keeps coming and going and suddenly I heard a screaming, the cops come rushing down the hill and parked on the other side of the street and a woman emerge from the car and descended into the yard.

Domestic violence it seems has derails someone’s dream and the little man with the taxi came rushing in was part of the bubble; there was going to be real trouble. He parked in front of the cop's head on and puts on the white light signal and pretends as if he was the boss

He went underneath the big apple three on the other side of the street and the domestic upheaval intensified. I watched from the side and listened for a while then I zoom them out. It is the nonsense mixing with common sense that didn’t make sense.

The brawl continues into broad-day light with the cops and the neighbors arguing about I don’t know what, the woman was issuing murder threat in front of the cops, and on the other side of the big church the lawn mower man was cutting grass and digging up earth drowning out the domestic confusion.

And so the morning faded away with the cops, the computer people and the PM people running around the town without shoes and crown, with the minstrel and the drums sounding behind them.

I could not hear them anymore even when I walked through the door; the morning suddenly became still and just the warm heat and slight breeze, I could feel blowing over my feet and the stage was set for a brand-new journey.

I feel a cold rush of wind against my skin
as dark clouds cascade across the sky
saturating my eyes with an ominous promise
    of what's to come
light flashes in the distance
a deep resounding sound rolls toward me
    in a loud gathering force
I am immersed in the oncoming storm
and its powerful unforgiving nature
churning the blood in my veins
binding me to nature's violent vibrancy

I'm no guest cowering in fear, rather a participant
    in its reality
about to break open above the earth
    with a burst of energy
I breathe in the scene of visual sensations
and dream of being windborne with the clouds
finding unity with this tempest
draping the world in a rumbling atmospheric darkness

Dreams Forever Awake
                 by Odin Roark

A father dreams of getting it right finally
succumbs to sweat drenched nightmares

Somewhere
he stumbles about
to clear the room
guitar
video games
posters

Broad stairs to the garage
once of stable hardwood
now rickety rotted support
creaking of memories crushed
once plush carpet soft with warmth
now but cold cinders beneath his feet

Sensory deprivation smiles
releases starving glimpses of love
once bathed by generous moonlight
spilling from window
to banister
to door
to now barren concrete

Here
children's eyes once visualized
what freedom's wheels would be like

The father wanders outside
stares blankly on the gray-white night
reflecting off algae encrusted pool
now with but deflated basketball
adrift

Through surrounding weeds and shrubs
GI Joe action figures shimmer their loneliness as well
staring like him at the pool's granite carved beachhead
imagination's vast ocean of backyard fantasy
now quiet
make-believe war
since reduced to the calm of real battles lost
jungle rot's toxic fumes
saturating all

No prisoners taken

History

The scuffling of his slippers
rake the humid night's heaviness
like sandpaper dragging across
memory's fine threaded tapestry

Lying down among the overgrowth
he peers through broken limbs
crumbling leaves
moon
water
house

Eyes squeezed shut deliver regret's creative gallery
a lifetime installation
perhaps never meant to be walked through

Yet...

Such are musings
sometimes destined
to be but nightmares
while dreams remain forever
awake in the heart

Temptation

Temptation

Foundation.

In such a fluid interconnected world, are long-term relationships dwindling in numbers?

Is temptation saturating society, and creating an influx of such communications, subtly asking for a second chance?

The Email to Monique

Whenever I think of you,
I always feel a familiar calling

A soft echo which rhythmically whispers before morning

I can still feel you

And it carries such magnificent tales of us slipping and sliding

Entwined together spiritually
As a new world was dawning

But like all things borne into the bright lights

There are things lurking in the night

Things we failed to see
To pray against and fight

And so now we both live alone

Me in bondage to time and memories

And you
A sentinel in the in-between spaces

Who I still see

A serene face reflected in random windows

“Perdóname mi amor
La oscuridad vino por mi

Y en ese único momento
Olvidé tu nombre"
