The neighborhood buffet boasted
fried chicken and biscuits, toasted,

creamy gravy, and smashed taters.
You can serve yourself, no waiters.

Into the long line you will strut
more than ready to fill your glut.

Bypass the green salads and soup;
run quickly, to the fried foods swoop

all you can eat for one price cheap.
Pile your plate high in one big heap.

If one plate full is not enough,
get back in line and your mouth stuff

with fried okra and sweet cornbread,
rice, beans, pasta, and liver spread.

Undo your belt a notch or two
so one more bite you can chew.

Desserts abound, cookies and cakes,
puddings, custards, tarts, and milk shakes.

Round out the meal with soft ice cream.
Maybe two cones won’t burst a seam.

You leave, with a bloated waist thick,
well-sated, and full as a tick.

Old Glory was hoisted on the green in Smalltown, USA at dawn.
Flags flutter on Elm Street from each porch and emerald lawn.
Banners are proudly displayed to honor this glorious nation.
Young and old of every stripe and creed join in celebration!

There'll be a parade followed by a community picnic in the park.
After the mayor's interminable speech there'll be fireworks after dark.
The Presbyterian Choir will sing before the school band concert.
The normally stingy town council will provide watermelon for dessert!

Paunchy guys form the honor guard from the American Legion Post.
Old veterans proudly salute the flag in a respectful toast!
Fancy floats are towed by John Deere tractors along the way,
With the Garden Club and Red Hat Society dames in strange array!

Before the picnic, the long-time mayor spouts his usual spiel.
People mill about and stomachs growl awaiting the noonday meal.
Volley ball, horseshoes and soft ball games round out the day.
Less athletic types find a shady tree to snooze the time away!

"Stars and Stripes Forever" by the band brings everyone to their feet!
The fire department lights fireworks to make the day complete.
Thanks to the founding fathers and brave patriots of yesteryear,
We can assemble each year to celebrate the freedoms we hold dear!

It was a rainy day so I flipped through a stack of comics
My Amazing Poet series
Finally I picked the fabulous Five
I liked the picture on the front
Yanny the Zen Master with long black hair
Becca the Creative and Beautiful with her mythical pen
One of my favorites sultry Eileen known as the Emotionator
Anne the Philosopher was right there beside Eileen with her magical smile
Then to round out this team was Vicky Victorious calling from the wilderness
In this edition they were battling the Poet Destroyer and Joker Jack
who had kidnapped Newbie Timothy Hicks
As I read their words I was in awe of my Heros
They made me cry
They brought me to new worlds
Filled with adventures
Sexy had new meaning
Tears became diamonds
Winds swirled inside my head
All the emotions of the rainbow
I longed to write with such clarity and strength
I tried to flex my poetic Muscles
Worked out every day
Then on the back of the comic
A scrawny poet sat on a beach
Beside the girl of his dreams
He is writing for her when along comes a muscular poet
The big poet kicks metaphorical sand in his face
The the scrawny poets girl is whisked away
Underneath it says
Are you tired of having Metaphorical sand kicked in your face?
Are other Poets getting the girl?
All that can change
Join the Andrea Dietrich School of Creative Poetry
She will have you writing like The Fabulous Five
You will never be afraid to flex those poetic muscles again
So I cut out the back page and sent my five dollars
The address is PO Box 88888 Inspiration California
Now all I can do is wait
What will the future Hold?

Note there are many Poets here who would appear in my vast Amazing poet series.
Poet Destroyer and Joker Jack are not Evil nemeses they were chosen for the roll
because of their names( also I love their work.) I hope you enjoyed my little tale.
Some of the younger poets may not be familiar with the Charles Atlas ads that used
to be on the back of comics, the rest of you I am sure will get the joke.

The Drunk Shy Small Jack o lantern and the Fat Rat

The Drunk Shy Small Jack-o'–lantern and the Fat Rat

The Drunk Shy Small Jack-o'–lantern woke up
in the toilet bowl
that really needed a clean up.
It smelt like a troll.

She heard a HIIIIIIIISS, and nervously looked up
at a Fat Rat slyly grinning.
She asked, ‘W-w-w-what’s u-u-up?’

The Fat Rat laughed wickedly.

Then he pressed FLUSH.
With great slush
the orange, soft, and
slashed Jack-o'–lantern went down, round and round out of sight.
In a hollow echo she said, 'Oh the fright!'

She uncomfortably spent Halloween night
stuck in the thick horizontal soil pipe Mr Dwight.
There she was stuck with a talkative spider mite!

Premium Member In the Starlight Evading

In the starlight evading,
On the crease of decision,
The New fallen justice,
Lay dormant and yet...
All potters and priests,
Suckle tragic enigmae,
And wait in the aisle,
For alchemist treats.

In the starlight evading,
From the genuine flesh
These potters and priests
view the science of fear.
Pasting and painting
Faces of nakedness,
These priests and these potters
Undu their veneer.

In the starlight evading,
Working backwards from winning,
Some potters, one priest
Panspermiate change.
Unlocking, deducing
This potter and priest,
Set sights and maimed reason
To round out their virtue

Yet starlight evading
In gracious reduction,
Leaves na'ry a glimpse
Of the joust in the night,
Betwixt and between
Potters and priests
Divinate magic and tally
The sins of today.

Rounding Out Reality

Rounding Out Reality

Rounding out reality
Dreams fall down on columned nights
Walls fade in golden mist
Swirl into the clarity of day
A kiss is tangible in the distance
Flavored vapors and water come
From the last midnight rain engagement
Came and went away with sleep, pure with sentiment
Sweet sense and fragrances of forest clearing
Corridors of trees lead on the wind
Solid as concrete love, white, with water droplets
Paths circle on themselves to find a clearing in the forest
There is nothing more fragile than my love
Holding on to her is like holding onto time
Sleep rounds out the walls of reality
A golden light on forest green
One soft spot of ground to lay a blanket down
And with my love round out reality

Wizard Dream Feather

Wizard Dream Feather

Four ancient stone cups filled with potions
Distinctly different spells filled to the top
Consumed by a bearded, ancient, wrinkled man
Downed from left to right in perfect sequential order
Down to the wizard mystic world enchantment spot
Old man breaths in powdered breath of blue
Above a pewter plate of silver gray
Molecules take on the magic of the mystic dish
Commingled atoms swirling
Wood table brightly lighted in the lab/library room
The dream feather comes from within
Hovers above the empty saucer sacred air
From nothing appears a spark of life
Nowhere in nature is it found but floating there
Empty plate displays a bird like invention clear
Plume curved slightly up and tall takes form
Stands two inches high in full rotation slow
Spiral like, soft on the edges brown and light
Scarlet red fills in the feather center
Neon yellows round out the shape
The lesson of the day is full deduction
Where does this rare duck specimen belong?
What is the origin wright or wrong?
This ornithological exercise still to be determined
Measured to conclusions on feathered strength
Wizard dreams puzzle to that end

Marbles Round

Marbles Round

From sand to glass through 1500 degrees of heat
Machines move on in furnace burning
Marbles forming down without a care
Orange spheres appear and fear no evil
Move along a cooling belt to calm
Marbles get a little crazy in the shade when still
Prefer crystal clinking sounds against each other
Out in the clearer air
Where bounced on ground they reach
Thrown in the sky in light of day
Dazzle through sun light and sparkle
Nothing in the world gives one more pleasure
Than to play on solid corners sharp
Concrete noises with glass are equal in the end
Marbles round out the day that way as best they can
