He stepped inside his rocket ship
then blasted off to space.
He overtook his nemesis
to clinch the Grand Prix race.
He dived beneath the deep blue seas
when his submarine submerged.
He stopped the speeding train before
the railway lines converged.
He flew the plane near to the ground
then looped it in the sky.
He stood on top of Everest
and jumped and didn't die.
He fought off several hungry sharks
then rowed towards the shore.
He bravely drove his Sherman tank
to help us win the war.
He stepped inside the Fort Knox safe
having mastered all its locks.
Yes, ‘He’ was me when I was small
- and I loved that cardboard box.
This week I have been in much thought about my wife and our marriage of 39 years*. I have noted and deeply considered the power and impact of 'history' in both the maintenance and long endurance in a marital relationship. The future is projected to be one of hope and vision, one of anticipation and eager planning. Although nothing beyond the 'now' is guaranteed in the 'tears' ahead, in sweet peace and harmony is where one would like to be in the 'years' ahead.
I heard a story of two gentlemen engaged in a conversation about their wives. One said, "When my wife gets upset with me, she always gets 'historical' ". In an attempt to correct his friend, the other gentleman said, "I think that you meant to say that she gets hysterical". The reply was, "No, I mean 'Historical'. She's always bringing up the past". With that in mind, I want to make it clear that I am talking about history and not hysterics.
Part of the beauty of mariage is the planning and dreams that we make for ourselves and prayerfully seek their reality. We also seek to leave some kind of legacy for our children. Notwithstanding, there is that which is behind us that can thrust us forward. Experiences and memories, both pleasant and otherwise can be harnessed and utilized to rocket us into future joys and successes. It is often the triumps and sometimes the failures in our past that inspire us to future success. What we draw from such experiences gives us confidence for future growth and developement. Yes, we have today. Yes, we had yesterday. Yes, we have this moment; Yes, by grace and faith, we have tomorrow. But indeed, we can look each other in the eyes and say, "We HAVE yesterday; we HAVE a history".
One of the anticipated desires that my wife and I began to treasure as the years flowed by was to 'grow old together'. Many are the obsticles that can hinder and prevent a marriage from achieving such a reality. Nevertheless, it is a real joy and an awareness of God's magnanemous grace when we reach the senior years and begin our 'growing old' together.

Speeding away in a rocket to Mars to start a colony
The astronaut feels his body is at rest, indeed
But in space, there is no reference frame
To tell him he is moving at an unearthly speed
Is his mind at rest? That is the million-dollar question
Mission to Mars is urgent and paramount in its quest for immortality
Humanity needs to get away from an increasingly hostile Earth
Quakes, tsunamis, global warming, ravages of unending wars
Have taken their toll challenging humanity for what it’s worth
There’s still a chance for humans to set their house in order
To get rid of their differences, and colour preferences
To rid themselves of vanity, and airs of superiority
And toss out the greed for gold shower and power
To uplift the downtrodden from poverty and inferiority
Else this blue planet is doomed, and with it humanity
We can resist any force in the world, be it tsunami or quake
But we cannot save humans from humans’ thirst for blood
Even if we succeed in colonizing Mars, can we save Mars from humans?
Will it not be easy for humans to annihilate each other for food
Water, and air in a hostile planet where these essentials are rare?

The Small Hours
Ceilings can be mesmerizing
From crop circles to popcorn
Ants on parade, elephants
Brought to life, a picture show,
Night light seeping across corners,
Cast over plaster and wood,
Cool white light, computer or moon,
Seeping in from all sides
To light the hazy stage
Electric green ribbons zap
Flickering, above the bed, a laser show
Where elephants morph into mothers
My mother, skimming leaves from our pool
Blurry and full of the sap of sleepiness
Sweaty sheets and trips to the beach
Fevers, birthday parties, funerals
4am burns in a volcano red
On the bed stand
Lying on my back
And I left my body, reverted
Or regressed, to a younger one
That was lying on his back
On that cool crispy blue sleep sack
Next to the waterbed, frozen
By thoughts of atom bombs
As big as hot air balloons
Dropping out out of the sky
Popping cities and cities of children
Like a bubble
Snap! There
Snap! Not there
And I consider my age
And I consider myself ageless
Two bursts of light on each end
Of a line, wire thin
5 am, 1995, fifteen, twenty, eighty
One, three, five, seven, nine
6 am, there’s still time
Where have all the flowers gone?
And other questions, heaps,
Mountains of them,
Where does God go after eternity?
Comfort is a hot commodity
The ceiling blasts off like a rocket
A dog yelps down the street
I feel my arms and fingers again
The world rotates on a tilt
And all the people rush to find their footing
while I try
Try to cram galaxies into the keyboard
Next to the razor hot red numbers
Counting rabbits backwards over the fence
That wavers and quivers like a Great Wall
With no end and no beginning
In circles and circles across the sky
A LOT OF NONSENSE
I was sitting in my room,
Looking at the stars,
When all of a sudden,
I thought I saw Mars,
I went out of the house,
And looked all around,
I got into my rocket ship,
Straight off the ground.
Milky Way Dairy,
Here I come,
My pockets are full,
To spend on my tum.
Oh, gosh how many
People are here,
Guess I’ll have to queue,
That’s pretty clear
I got out of my ship,
And saw the rotator,
I turned and saw a
Wow kind of waiter,
A strange looking alien,
And laden with shakes,
And to my relief,
I also see choc. Flakes!
The stools are actually ,
Floating in mid-air,
And the waiters mingle
Around, with such flair.
I say to the waiter I’ll
Have a Sundae, Oh
Never mind,
Make that a Monday!
What a menu this is,
And oh what a choice,
After spending my money
I’ll have no voice!
But truly folks,
The Milky Way is a treat,
And you come by Rocket ship,
Such a cool feat!
Take the family there,
And on arrival you’ll find,
A Drive-thru and menu
That’s One of a kind!
So first take a left,
And then a sharp right,
And the Milky way Dairy,
Is almost in sight!
And there in the skies,
And amongst all the stars,
Lies a dream world of Sundaes,
Flakes and Milky bar

I was ordered to travel to Mars.
I enjoy traveling among the stars.
When some people on Mars tried to open a gateway to Earth, they accidentally opened a gateway to Hell.
Many demons came through the gateway and many soldiers tried to stop them but they were bound to fail.
The demons killed the humans and turned them into zombies.
Now I have to kill them all before they get the chance to kill me.
I have to kill Imps, Cacodemons, Spiderdemons and Barons of Hell.
Sometimes I also come across Cyberdemons and I kill them as well.
When I come across a locked door, I have to find a key to unlock it.
A Cyberdemon is chasing me and it's trying to kill me by firing rockets.
I just used my rocket launcher to turn it into goo.
Every demon and zombie will be dead when I'm through.
A shotgun, plasma gun, chainsaw and other weapons are what I have to find.
I hope the demons don't somehow get to Earth or it will be the end of mankind.
By some miracle I've destroyed all of the demons and the zombies as well.
I was able to complete my mission and I thank God that I didn't fail.

Andy the Handyman
Andy was cleverly skilled at his art
he built mechanical things part by part
Andy worked all the time couldn’t stop it
but the wife would blast off like a rocket.
He couldn’t understand the dramatics
when he built a carriage in the garage
The wife said it was a bloomin’ disgrace
she didn’t want it taking up the space.
His carriage was left there to rot and rust
the poor thing never even got a dust
Andy thought he’d have to leave it to trust
that someone, somewhere may think it a must.
Andy’s wife left long before the carriage
said she’d had just enough of the marriage
Was Andy pleased, did he really care
she had just answered his secret prayer.
The wife never gave him a moment’s peace
was always getting under Andy’s feet
Now Andy enjoys life living his dream
constructing a super flying machine.

FOB Echo Iraq was a forward operation base near the Babylon site in the city of Diwaniya, in fact the US military put security hesco and fencing around the ruins for protection from all of the goons in the region. This was a hot base and the hajis would lob at least 3 salvos of mortar on us each day. February 06 i was walking from my CHU to the DFAC for lunch and i heard a rocket scream over head at low altitude, sounded like a high performance jet, about the most startling sound I've ever heard.. a hot second later the KBR laundry facility went up in an incredibly loud boom, a huge ball of fire, smoke, dust and debris ...... was the first to the entrance, the place was in flames and lying about 20 feet in the inside the door was the body of this cute girl wearing a blue KBR t shirt, she was folded in half.. i don't believe or at least i tell myself she didn't suffer or felt stress. i still see her face, just a cute girl, kind of mulatto, pretty, just trying to make a living and support her family back in the islands. Shortly after the US brought in Strikers and they raged havoc on the area for several weeks. That was and remained a hot base. Never so glad when i was on Cat Fish Air out of that hole... occasionally like last night, she comes to visit me in my dreams
Monday Morning
Blues have taken the day,
because I have let them.
I woke up late, skipped breakfast.
I ran out of the house, without my coffee.
Obviously, I had already lost my mind.
The car would not start right way,
I have no time for this, I have to make my pay.
The car came to life, I pushed it in reverse…charge…!
Crash… of course.
What did you think was going to happen?
I had set this up… clearly…
“pay close attention please”. (smiling now, but not then)
I wanted to cry, or die.
I wanted to scream.
I got out instead.
I would have kicked the tire, but I did that last time,
It went badly.
The results would be the same.
My kid’s bike, now jammed between my fender and my frame.
This will be a big “fire”, indeed.
No longer do I care, what happens anywhere else,
Home life had taken a nose dive before my eyes.
My son’s bike, the rocket ship that takes him to the moon,
was flattened completely by a four door, rushing Comet.
Lord of the universe, what can I say,
I should have began my day…
In prayer.
Now…
The neighbor just moved in, he saw the thick and thin.
He jumped the fence between us and ran to step across the albatross.
“We can get it free, let me have the key.” He beamed a smile.
I stood very still, thinking of my son… the horror of the moment to come.
Keys in hand, the man moved the car…what a star.
The bike, the trike, the electric light, that meant more than it should,
popped out.
I thought I was going to shout…out loud.
It appeared to me, to be free indeed.
No damage no mark. Nothing from my part.
Thank you Lord,
Let me start again.
Amen.
I remember pausing on the round
of your upper-lip...thinking, surely
no round was ever so soft, so finely
appealing. Proceeding over the wing
like curves to edges, feeling as if
in flight, lingering on the lower –
a journey of tastes, and longing...and
then the parting, and divine probing...
Afterwards we laid back, admiring the
stars; each sparkle seeming diamonds
are indeed forever; each one counted
a thousand more burst into view, as
would a rocket glitter the night sky
at a fair...
We were young and knew everything
and nothing
Several days later our Four Wheel
Technology took you from me
Time stopping both our hearts....
