Colonising Mars
Speeding away in a rocket to Mars to start a colony
The astronaut feels his body is at rest, indeed
But in space, there is no reference frame
To tell him he is moving at an unearthly speed
Is his mind at rest? That is the million-dollar question
Mission to Mars is urgent and paramount in its quest for immortality
Humanity needs to get away from an increasingly hostile Earth
Quakes, tsunamis, global warming, ravages of unending wars
Have taken their toll challenging humanity for what it’s worth
There’s still a chance for humans to set their house in order
To get rid of their differences, and colour preferences
To rid themselves of vanity, and airs of superiority
And toss out the greed for gold shower and power
To uplift the downtrodden from poverty and inferiority
Else this blue planet is doomed, and with it humanity
We can resist any force in the world, be it tsunami or quake
But we cannot save humans from humans’ thirst for blood
Even if we succeed in colonizing Mars, can we save Mars from humans?
Will it not be easy for humans to annihilate each other for food
Water, and air in a hostile planet where these essentials are rare?
