What causes someone to sink so low
And let an upright spirit to kneel and bow
To the pressures they are unable to undo
Neither can reverse this malady nor subdue?
Let us not someone retreat in the darkest nook
Before we try all the remedies in the book,
Replenish her love and together ardently pray
And shower her with care night and day.
Disheartening it is to see one of our own thus bear
The burden that lays on her heavy and rare;
Hang in there, Linda! Have faith--PERSEVERE,
Forget not who you are--The poet Destroyer!
Wishing you all the best, Linda, and a speedy recovery!

~Fighting Depression Contest by Shadow Hamilton
Christmas 2022 is fast approaching
Where has the year really gone
Well after two years of covid isolation
Boris resigned his prime minster position
He got us through brexit
And a pandemic
This wasn't enough
For government and public
The successor was Lizz Truss
Who lasted a month through lack of trust
We had the platinum jubilee
Followed by the passing of our great Queen
King charles iii took the thrown
The economical climate totally unknown
Blamed on a Russian with ideas of grandja
President Putin upset the worlds veranda
Price rises in fuel and food
This for the public cannot be good
The time of year is not the best
Families struggling with pressures on the chest
Electricity and gas prises through the roof
Puttins greed being shown As the proof
The public are struggling from day to day
All stick together and help is all can say
Christmas isn't doom and gloom
It's about sharing caring bring laughter to the room
You don't need to spend lots on family presents
Just being there is enough showing your presence
People think it's about spend spend spend
In this climate it must end
Love thy neighbour like oneself
You don't need that naughty elf
In years gone by a tangerine would do
Followed by remade stuff with nails and glue
Back then technolgy was that of unknown
Love and rejoicing should be shown
It's a time of giving and keep belief
We will beat this crisis if we keep faith
Christmas time is a great time of year
Full of charitable things and good cheer
Do something simple a support someone else
Their need may be greater so loosen your belts
Gift a little present and spread the cheer
2023 will surely be a better year
Remember all those away from families
Through work, finance and struggle or overseas
Invite them in for rmince pies and a tea
See smiles on the face for your generosity
It's Christmas day in just one week
No more presents for you to seek
All wrapped up and under the tree
Merry Christmas from the Alexander Church family

Unsolicited
Yesterday I called my daughter
To give unsolicited parenting advice.
She listened and heard me
And even thanked me after,
But then I went away
Wondering who am I to give advice
And how does my experience as a child
Compare to my daughter’s kid's today.
It’s really two different worlds
Of different values, pressures and expectations.
In our talk these key words of parenting arose;
Love, fairness, patience
And something more elusive,
Maybe even you could say the Holy Grail
Of parenting, equanimity,
That quality of dispassionate composure
Especially in the face of stress.
And maybe this is what makes me feel
My advice rings hollow
And so better left unsaid.
If we don’t embody the lessons we teach
What use are they,
And if we embody them,
What need for them to be even given.

Is the unknown always concealed by the dark, I wonder
What if the unknown has been basking in the light all along
Hiding in plain sight while we make deals with fear to try and reach its borders
The light allows us to think that we see all that we need to know
It's a distraction we look forward to, makes us feel in control, so we never feel a sense of the unknown when it's in command
How do we embrace the unknown when we can't be at peace in the dark
I mean, if we are to believe we find our true selves when we embrace it, like some say
The unsightly mess long tucked away from prying eyes, but still holds us hostage somehow, lurks somewhere in the dark
Maybe the dark is the tunnel that takes us to the mysterious unknown
So if the dark is the tunnel, is the unknown the light at the end of tunnel then?
Which would make sense in a way, because no one ever knows if that light is the train coming to mow them down or a sign that their time in the dark is over.
Could even be a firefly's glow in there, you just never know!
Or maybe the unknown is the time spent in the dark tunnel?
So that embracing the unknown would mean being comfortable
in the darkness of the tunnel enough to face our fears
To find in there, the right mental stimulation that doesn't ruffle the feathers unnecessarily and set any triggers off
A place where thoughts can safely unfold at leisure in their own time
at their own pace
Without the pressures to blossom into action or to be anything at all
That must be part of learning to just be
Self awareness and self acceptance would certainly thrive in such a place
To stay still within the passage of a moment, to sense it, feel it and be ok to let it pass through you without trying to define it, must be how it feels to taste the unknown in my opinion
Form:
Sometimes
With all this pressures
Of survival
I feel the urge to take a break
Reset my self and refocus
I cant be stagnant when is necessary
To keep moving
Am a human being
My mind is important
To my soul and spirit
So I find joy in doing nothing
Sometimes
Sometimes
I need a break
Cos it been a long way
I need a pause to move on
I need to catch myself back to track
In this time I have nothing to do
I just feel the joy of doing nothing
Some people call it holiday
But I call it the moment of freedom
A time to feel yourself
Attached to nothing but yourself
Your mind your soul your spirit
A time and moment of finding
So let me feel life cos is necessary
Sometimes
As God’s army trainees sizzling with zest
Singing “Champions for Jesus” midst loud shout
Young soldiers* of Christ march zealously blest
Triumphing over pressures, fear and doubt
In their best during August** Youth Conquest.
*Ecclesiastes 12:1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth..."

Nothing sounds happier
Than snickers or giggles
The words even cause us to laugh
Perhaps we could invent
A new one or two
Like sniggles or snickles or glaffs
It's all for the benefit
Of us human kind
In this world of turmoil and grief
There's hilarious words
Like loopsies or cleepers
Or how bout a hand full of meef
I know what you're thinking
The white coats are coming
This fellow's gone over the edge
The pressures of dealing
With everyday living
Has caused this fellow to skredge
So you see how it works?
You'll never be stumped
To fill out the end of a rhyme
You'll win blue ribbons
For your wonderful phrasing
And save a scritchy of time

in the animal kingdom of insect society
each member has a purpose in the heirarchy
from the very beginning until the last stage of their existence
each one has a specific task that they perform with persistence
but us human beings we have to discern
what from our ancestors we most need to learn
utmost is that we just need to get life right
especially when we are standing in view of God's sight
but don't worry about how you will accomplish this deed
as God will provide all the tools that you will need
and even if you have not started out in life with an abundancy
God will help you to fulfill your chosen destiny
and as long as you tap into your God-given purpose for being
the Lord will help you pick up your towel of service to go achieving
fighting temptation with a purpose in mind
in doing the right thing most often you will find
that if you ever veer away from God's master plan
you will wind up with a disaster on your hands
and whenever you succumb to the pressures of society
you'll find yourself in the midst of a crisis of identity
and if ever you allow the adversary to get a toehold on you
he'll wear you down and a spiritual wringer he'll put you through
you might not have all the resources in life that you desire
just tap into your purpose for being and let God give you all you'll require
just like Josiah whose father was not the best of men
the type of life he led was hard to swallow and comprehend
instead Josiah looked ahead towards his God-given destiny
not left nor right but at God's unfailing certainty
moving with a purpose and God's assurety
moving with the grace of God and His authority
fighting temptation with a purpose in life
fighting against temptation in your walk with Jesus Christ
don't let the world label you and put you in a mold
you're a child of the Living God with a purpose to unfold
God gave you a gift, a special talent for a reason
and He wants you to utilize it in and out of season
find your purpose for being and with it move towards your destiny
fighting with temptation to become all that you can be
Poetry Soup friends are rare, yet precious treasures
Offering kindred bond beyond poetic measures
Empowering communication prowess midst word-usage pressures
Tending to souls with every remarkable message that assures
Reaching hearts’ fissures with hope and love enclosures
Yes, indeed expressing honest approval of favor’s pleasures.
So privileged am I to have friends in this global poetry site
Opening to me opportunities to express myself as I earnestly indite*
Upon truths I believe can build lives according to what’s right
Prompted by my faith and relationship with God of blissful delight.
Friends, I thank you for your kind comments
Really pleased am I with your sincere encouragements
Influencing me to do my best in my submission-engagements
Enabling poetic gift* to be harnessed through your compliments---
Nourished and nurtured midst varied sentiments and predicaments
Dealt well around differing perspectives in my exposure-involvements
Satisfied am I, sustained with triumph of writing endowments.
*Psalm 45:1 My heart is inditing a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.
**2Timothy 1:6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

Lying under the dynamic heart
of ancient theological reflection
is experience,
as is true of any resonant theology
of ecological relationships
between resonant feelings
and resilient energies;
Experience
and ecological reflection about
compassionate
spiritually-felt communion,
touch
sensations
pressures
and plunges
of win/win universal relationships.
A theological term
for this heightened
and deepened
and widened cooperative
contemplative management
and ownership
and mutual becoming together
sacred experience
is "transubstantiation"
Of exterior wine
as also interior blood shared,
Of natural bread
as also spiritual embodiment,
Of Yang health energy
as also Yin wealth
of win/win light flow
between
and among visualized
smelled
tasted
felt
shared sensory chakras,
Of exterior nature
as also interior spirit,
Of secular bipolar experience
and ecological reflection,
as also sacred dipolar transposition,
co-empathic
bilateral
both/and compassion,
and theological/ecological
spiritual/natural energy
for co-embodied healthy contemplation
Of outside being
as also inside becoming
compassionate win/win communion
sacredly together
urgently needed,
and climatically wanted
even more than co-emergently needed
seeded,
co-invested
much more than segregated apart,
antagonistically win/lose co-divested.
Transubstantiation of health care communion
empowerment politics,
Love overwhelming
economically unenlightened win/lose competitions
for more prevention of future
individualistic
anthropocentric
nationalistic pathologies.
Transubstantiation,
like communion,
like deliciously tangoed dance,
the ultimate win/win
therapeutic
ego/eco-political experience;
resonant Right
resilient Left.
