Slumbering baby's feet rest in a quaint garden,
As their youngest member naps peacefully,
A wailing baby stirs, ignores looks made silly,
After a short while, normalcy weighs-in.
An exuberant baby squirms around,
As a whimsical garden undress for young sight,
That being proffered midst an increased, proper light,
Above and under, a baby goes round.
Hush, a ladybug takes flight bouncingly,
A baby's head progresses upward and around,
Venturing to detect the beating sound,
A head steadies, a tiny face powdered with glee.
Coos, giggles, an orange speck gain the distance,
A grinning baby receives the same fate,
While some garden remains behind a closing gate,
And a sun sinks past a white picket fence.

We had missed five days in
The last two weeks
Due to the ice and snow.
Roads and streets had been impassable—
Freezing rain, blowing snow and black ice.
We started the day late at 10 am.
I greeted them at the doors—
Worried about attendance.
But, ninety-five percent made it.
Fantastic!
They were wrapped in hooded jackets
And wore toboggans with rainbow colors.
Mothers had stuffed them with oatmeal,
Hotcakes and sausage.
One carried chocolate milk
And powdered sugar donuts,
Along with tousled hair and a big smile.
I was glad they made it.
We didn’t need to lose another
Day of instruction.
The day went smoothly, too.
In spite of the frigid cold that pushed
The mercury down to two degrees.
Frozen feet tracked salted snow
Onto brightly buffed tiles.
One carried an icicle two foot long—
I convinced him it would keep outside.
Then came lunch.
The short day was ready made for
Corn dogs and sloppy Joes—
A menu that might have been invented
By kindergarteners.
But they hardly touched either one.
Today they served
Golden Meadow Orange Dream Bars—
A dessert that was surely made in Heaven.
Ice cream on the coldest day of the year.
And the February freeze was forgotten.
The orange circled smiles of kinders
Beamed a warmth from within,
Making the remainder of the day brighter,
Marking an end to winter.
Like bursting orange pearls that float from mellowing trees
Translucent the montage of falling heaves and heaps
Dressing the ground adorning Winter's gate to pass through
In timeless drift to fall and wither to anew
Winds shift to drift like sifted flour, powdered
Like donuts sprinkled with white sugar devoured
Eating the sky with whistles and howls beseeched
Swirling to turn briskly finding its colder breach
Morning tide arises to lift its globeflower sun
Blooming low with arms outstretched, spreading stunned
Bleeding orange in mother earth's basket filling
Bidding to inspire the courage of all souls willing
Breaking through darkness this guardian of hope arises
For great is the heart's bequest to dream beyond horizons
Blazing orange in the pristine painted sky this glorious morn
Primordial our story, our peace, our beauty be reborn

Mix maroon heart with amber ambition
Silver start swiftly amethyst affliction
How do you heal when you’re blue broken
Create a poetic meal to eat keep hope and
Stir in sandy sonnets from years in the rain
Sprinkle Senryu, haiku despite peach pain
Let cranberry couplets cream morbid thought
Sift soulful sentiment knitted like amber art
Add a dollop of daylight in your wisest words
And mince moonlight sautéed by wing of bird
Knead the dough of poems soul as it forms
Pour in powdered pan man, woman so warm
Bake to taste by lavender lake full of adjectives
You’ll know when it’s done for it’s like magic is
Transforming minds and making designs of brain
That’s how to bake a poem, green grace stay sane
As if waiting for August, bullet buds
were ready to explode in front of shrubs.
Now they are blushing bursting in your face,
rich shades of pink, radiant in this space.
Beneath the apple tree their perfume drifts.
Hover flies are drawn, as the scent emits,
to powdered stamens trembling in the breeze,
and petals as a star attract the bees.
All this comes from a gift that we had placed
in the only vacant space and in haste
some years ago to let them grow all chaste
at our garden's heart which they have graced.
With you I feel compelled this sight to share.
Imagine if you can the fragrance there.
Is there anything better than
The faint smell of smoke from a fireplace on a crisp cool day?
Is there anything better than
Being huddled in the stands watching the local football team play?
Is there anything better than
Raking up leaves in a pile for the kids to run through?
Is there anything better than
Seeing the sunlight glistening off the morning grass dew?
Is there anything better than
A white powdered donut with a glass of fresh apple cider?
Is there anything better than
A Halloween night with ghosts and goblins and spiders?
Is there anything better than
A horse drawn hayride out in the pumpkin patch?
Is there anything better than
Watching a squirrel gathering his winter stash?
Is there anything better than
The change of the seasons, anything better at all?
Is there anything better than
This time of year, the summer turning into fall?
Precious bluebird, here alone
I think of you, my thoughts then roam
On flights of fancy there I go
Exotic places I don't know
But everywhere my flight does land
There's turquoise water, powdered sand
And there I make a place for you
And look across that ocean blue
I strain my eyes across the vast
My coordinates to you I cast
And hope to see your sail one day
Approaching me to always stay
Your every want, your every need
Here on earth I'd try to feed
And if I couldn't what I'd do
Is I would play guitar for you
It's my way of giving me
Pure and open, all for free
Its value isn't tangible
But my love is infrangible
It's solid, real, and will be there
For all my life for you I'll care
And wait and hope the day will come
When separate hearts can beat as one
The noise of the day
has subsided and folded
into a quiet
under the soft covers
of a July evening.
The eyes seem to resist
the particular and instead
focus on nothing
but the sum - the glow
from shore lights
smudged on water,
the dark sky powdered
with translucent clouds
and the faint filaments
of stars strung out overhead.
Tonight, I don't want
the granular detail of things
to steal my attention
but to enjoy the blending,
the stand back meld
of colors, of each stroke,
forming a picture transcending
its parts. I want to feel
the evening being
put together
into a boundless whole,
to be beyond
the smallness of myself
and be absorbed totally
into the mystery
of the composition
Look closely, feel the harmless heat
enveloping black-diamond
petals in the glistening
garden of glossy geraniums.
There, sprouts rosemary dreams
from an untouched silhouette,
eager to be seen beyond
her perfumed pigments.
Her universe was sprinkled
with starry streams
of gleaming rays,
as she swayed to symphonic
serenades filled with hazel dust.
They may gawk with greedy
glares as wide as the night sky,
marking her with lecherous
objects that only please
shameless eyes.
She was never
in need of a sixth sense
to understand iron glances
that travel in nefarious packs,
with sugar-burnt hunger
washing all over her
unblistered flesh,
judging her concealer
as a manipulative facade,
seeking uncalled-for affirmations
that she never solicited,
misconceiving her thin lines
of red-river lipstick.
Her summer physique allowed
no consent for invasive intrusion,
yet carnal cravings become
unwelcome toxic trespassers.
Their immoral thoughts
believe shallow words
give them wanderlust wings,
while sinister stars in their sky
label her a soulless mannequin,
objectifying her
cinnamon-glazed skin,
sun-kissed hair,
and pecan-powdered~
caramelized voluptuous flare,
with their vehement
voracious desires.
Swinging penetrative thin blades
of opinions from miles,
oblivious to the fact that
she is the sanguine strength
that strolls in silver silence
across spiky swards,
suppressing the pain her
bones have endured with
every whiskering
whistle they wolfed.
There, if the mauve moon and
crystalline constellations look closely,
they would find versatile
mirrors of meaning
reflecting the times
she parades a smile too
comfortable to wear,
for they have concluded
her bed to be a shrine
of blenders and
overflowing thickened blades,
cursed by the biological
sins of Adam's ancestors.
From stark equinox, a cold wind blows
Maiden Winter closes the final rose,
Now she stands at the frosted gate
Decked in pristine robe so ornate
Dusted leaves drift from balding trees;
Crowning tiny pearls of arctic breeze.
Her wand sparks pale Eos’ quiet thrill
Quilts of eyelids wake on threadbare hill,
Soon kingdom’s carpet will turn to steel
And dashes of fairies pour a misty reel.
All snow -bound hours and icy nights
Blinkies*, a million twinkling lights
Scatter their magical flakes once again,
For powdered toes to whisk on capped lane.
And so the frigid bouquets will cling
Till crystals explode across Beira’s* wing.
