Leave behind your suitcase and Venice’s hurried pace
forgoing culture and medieval history for Dolomieu’s Dolomites~
pinnacles of dolomitic limestone chiseled into grotesque shapes
that refuse postcards—carving their own light at dawn and
gently dissolving into peaceful rose at dusk.
Their trails are old conspirators, whispering switchback secrets
to those like me who love geology, nature and
who walk without hurry.
The trails unwind like forgotten stories
each turn a new clause~
a waterfall’s asterisk, a meadow’s ellipsis:
this writer’s inspiration and paradise.
A farmhouse leans into one of the stone slopes,
its shutters laced with blushing pink geraniums.
Inside, my favorite comfort food--speckled cheese
melted over polenta, golden as an Italian afternoon.
Each peak, a vial where daylight lingers,
hoards time in geologic sieves.
These rouge-colored peaks, half-lit, refuse the night~
patient stars and poets don’t mind.
In the depths of night where shadows lie,
A realm of dreams where spirits fly,
A place where fantasies unfold,
And whispered secrets are softly told.
Beneath the veil of moonlit gleam,
You find the key to shape the dream,
With mind's control, the power to steer,
Through lands of wonder, free from fear.
A mountain’s peak, a river’s flow,
A starry sky, a world aglow,
You craft the scenes with gentle might,
A master of this endless night.
With focus clear and heart serene,
You dance within the twilight scene,
From waking thoughts, a bridge you weave,
Into the night, you boldly cleave.
The dream is yours to mold and play,
To cast the night and sculpt the day,
A canvas vast where you can soar,
Unlock the dreams, and then explore.
With each new dawn, the magic stays,
As night returns, your mind replays,
The wondrous art of dreams untamed,
In sleep's embrace, you are unchained.
Didn’t you keep waiting for me my dear white page
The cool touch of my pen on your virgin face
First fond touches and then the crimson sweet bite
A grand game to make you blossom in excitement
The cool touch of my pen on your virgin face
It makes you restless as you feel pulsations of
A grand game to make you blossom in excitement
Still you hesitate to unfold your latent ocean
It makes you restless as you feel pulsations of
The pen moving on your impatient corpuscles
Still you hesitate to unfold your latent ocean
And the charge goes on deepening purple urges
The pen moving on your impatient corpuscles
It creates keen flowers of electricity in your water
And the charge goes on deepening purple urges
What is born we may call it a star studded sky
It creates a keen flower of electricity in your water
On a peak a clasping dance of aroused intellect
What is born we may call it a star studded sky
Come, let's mingle the starlight in the blossoms we make
On a peak a clasping dance of aroused intellect
First fond touches and then the crimson sweet bite
Come, let's mingle the starlight in the blossoms we make
Didn’t you keep waiting for me my dear white page

A cowboy don't need no plushy pew or a rantin' preacher,
Pontificatin' from his pulpit aerie as his spiritual teacher!
He gits his religion from (to him) a more gratifyin' source,
Cherishin' God's Great Creation from the saddle of his horse!
He sits on a log contemplatin' the rigorous work to be done,
Sippin' joe from a tin cup, admirin' the risin' of the sun.
He saddles his faithful horse, Clyde, for the long day's ride;
His old dog, Rex, with tail a-waggin', trots along at his side.
He lifts his eyes up to yon Pikes Peak a-thankin' the Lord,
For sech majesty and the herd of antelope a-grazin' on the sward.
He crosses a stream and pauses listenin' to its soothin' hymn,
As water caresses stones - sublimer than a cathedral choir to him!
He dismounts, removes his sweat-stained hat and takes a break,
'Neath a ponderosa pine savorin' the breeze from a nearby lake.
Cheery meadowlarks serenaded the old cowpoke in acapella style,
Easin' the strain of his challengin' day and makin' livin' seem worthwhile.
His workday was endin' and he ambled home along the dusty trail,
To the bunk house where he'd be fed beans and bacon without fail.
As the sun settled in the west, a glorious spectacle caught his eye;
The Master Artist had painted a most beautiful sunset in His sky!
No! A cowboy don't need no cathedral in which to worship the Lord!
His redemption is reverin' God's Creation for his eternal reward!

Games at the baby shower
Then games of peak-a-boo
and patty-cake-a-patty cake
With the tiny dream come true
Games of Ring Around a Rosey
Holding little child's hand
To sitting at the table
With a game of Candy Land!
The game of life unfolding,
Right before my eyes
The Wedding March beginning
Dash away now lullabies
A marriage vow is spoken
And sweet kisses without shame
A Holy vow was spoken
All knew well this was no game.
And soon
Games at the baby shower
Games of peak-a-boo
Patty-cake-a-patty cake
Another dream come true...

***************
As it rises shakily, the aurora radiates,
Shore gets battered by periwinkle waves.
Scarce alabaster turns to an ebonized sheen.
A sacred, somber, and katabatic sorrow.
A mild ache dances around joyfully,
As kindred souls merge in a forlorn embrace.
And halcyon as paradisal opiate utopia
It is as vast as the unclaimed love.
Your skim was both ethereal and brief,
It hinders my span of lethargic wandering.
Chest pain at every peak: a fipple passion,
Gossamer scenes that wish to last forever.
We gamboled beneath auric heavens,
Effusive murmurs in dulcet hush.
Stringent crave twirled in tricky loops,
A mental usufructuary, weak and eternal.
The limb caresses a vulnerable, airy speck,
An ambrosian ache in a weary world—
Meticulous truths submerged in the deluge,
A shredded hope, a shriveled flame.
Love is a chimera—a ripple on a palimpsest.
Crestfallen spume claws the coast calyx.
Then resiles, bedraggled, into amorphous dusk.
Amort embrace, undone, beshrewed by time.
Now, balmily, you are my nepenthe,
A calix once held—an ambivalent ache.
And I, a desperate-looking romantic,
Forever ephemeral, forever asunder.
The rolling Greens seem so serene,
forests pristine in sunlight’s sheen,
tall, rounded peak, a rocky creek,
a red-tail’s beak, rodents he seeks,
an aged elm, rare in this realm,
stands at the helm and overwhelms,
small dairy farm of rustic charm,
blackflies will swarm, cows takes alarm,
dunn Whitetail deer are grazing here,
jolt up in fear when folk are near,
the turkeys flit amidst the grit,
then stare a bit, and quickly split,
a low rock wall that never falls,
it stands not tall, not grand at all,
big boulders strewn, they look hand-hewn,
but Ice Age moons, carved them to runes,
where barns once stood, now quiet woods,
the land’s green hood, trees here grow good,
an old dirt rode the once did know
how horses rode with wagon loads,
slopes without trees where people ski,
and summer sprees, big tent parties,
vacation house always allows
the city crowd to come get out,
most local folk thing them a joke
but won’t provoke, or they’ll go broke,
quaint breakfast place, that maple taste,
tall-stack pancakes to feed the face,
hippie type, smelling quite ripe,
their ideas tripe, never quite right,
a breeze of cold, autumn unfolds
with colors bold, Green Mountains roll.
Consuming Failure
Pay heed the dancing chickens hot plate feet
lest you believe the music makes him strut
outrunning death by curried peppers sweet
the cooling of the iron his sole treat
keep moving to avoid the final cut
pay heed the dancing chickens hot plate feet
harsh tempo of perfections searing heat
obsession with the ifs, and whens, and buts
outrunning death by curried peppers sweet
performing in the hope of winning seat
an endless line that must remain uncut
pay heed the dancing chickens hot plate feet
there is in heated battle no retreat
for some the dancer’s door will soon slam shut
outrunning death by curried peppers sweet
accept in simple failure your defeat
perfections long sought peak a muddy rut
pay heed the dancing chickens hot plate feet
outrunning death by curried peppers sweet

PEEK A BOOM!
Take a peek,
See what’s looming,
Populations booming,
Take a peek,
Things don’t seem sweet,
Soldiers marching, many feet,
Take a peek,
Priest holds communion cup,
Wardens locking prisoners up,
Take a Peek
Ferocious politics taking place,
Wars and leaders losing face,
Take a peek
What is happening today,
Bloodshed, dying, home far away,
Take a peek,
Mother in park with baby,
Bomb explodes, did they escape, maybe,
Take a peek,
What is the world doing,
What on earth is brewing?
Take a peak
Oh don’t put on the news,
It gives me the blues!
Take a peek,
America, Russia, China and the rest,
Do your best,
Take a peek,
Collectively pinpoint
A similar viewpoint,
Take a peek,
Politicians and politics,
Are coming apart at the seams,
Take a peek,
Do they know what this means,
Take a peak,
Each player wants a piece
Of the pie,
Don’t pay heed to Armageddon been nigh,
Take a peek,
Takes one madman, the button is red,
Presses it and we are all dead!
Peak a boom!
