Labor Day 2021

Courtesy of one or more tradesmen,
first Monday in September set aside
for employees able, eager, ready
and willing to acquire money
to marry groom or bride
climb the corporate ladder or
become an artisan, entrepreneur, technician
to side step getting rung, drafted
like an oxen plow, commandeered and chide
by management as insubordinate
till retirement or join kiln fields once died

from over exertion, yet nonetheless
sweat of brow efforts praised I espied
searching me noggin brief history re:
aforesaid day, where barbecues fried
dispersed aromas recognizing efforts
of workers with quality control as guide
grievances against danger challenged
sense and sensibility stalwart did not hide
the shenanigans that took place inside

boardrooms in tandem with glories of
American made products from those
who put figurative nose to grindstone –
just common everyday Jane's and Joe’s
who weathered extreme temperatures,
whereby bodies froze
but thanks to those who battled elements
at large and snatched doze

birth of brute efforts eventually
earned reserved renowned
borne couple shy of
nineteenth century, whence sound
of industrial silence replaced with
parades where hoof beats did pound
burgeoning and bustling city streets
echoed along hardened ground
fealty to country soldered
with faith, federation union freedom
and job security did thence abound,

which holiday underwent
transformations as bustle
and hustle proved myth regarding
land of milk and honey –
from straining of muscle
whereby life, liberty and pursuit
of happiness less of physical tussle

set (thank you Masons and Dixons)
cornerstone to an invisible
complex edifice originally from New York
forgotten builders, farmers, machinists,
et cetera who laid groundwork
wrought by destruction
from Civil War largesse and pork
loosed from the bottle in
Antebellum South, when off flew cork
freeing a genie, which became rendered
supremely courtly poet, i.e. this former dork.

Chronic Pain

Please tell the world — pain is real,
It doesn’t vanish, it doesn’t heal.
Some may smile and say “you’ll mend,”
But this is a war that will never end.

Chronic pain doesn’t come-and-go,
It’s in your joints, it’s all you know.
It lingers in silence, behind each breath,
A quiet shadow that mimics death.

Debilitating, crushing, it’s stolen my days,
In a thousand relentless, invisible ways.
You can’t see the fire under my skin,
Or the war I fight deep within.

Every step burns, my legs scream in pain,
I cry out loud without refrain.
I can’t stand long, can’t walk far—
I measure my strength by how close things are.

Because you can’t see it, you think it’s a lie—
But I cry every day just trying to get by.
Change a lightbulb? Mop the floor?
Fold the laundry? Go to the store?
I can’t do those things—not anymore.

Don’t tell me to smile, or “just take a walk,”
You haven’t lived pain that makes breathing a shock.
Every joint, every muscle I own
Feels like it’s made of fire and stone.

My hands are twisting, my fingers betray,
A glass I could hold, now slips away.
Inflamed, swollen, this body of mine
Hunched over and twisted, pain in my spine.

What’s left, I ask, please God, help me.
I can’t take anymore, I cry on one knee.
No work, no help, no one near,
No voice that says, “I’m here. I hear.”

Most days I wonder what I’m still living for—
No message, no knock, no one at the door.
No family that calls just to say “hi,”
No one would notice if today I did die.

I slowly disappear with each passing day,
And pray for a reason—just one I should stay.
So please tell the world be gentle, be wise,
Not every battle is seen by the eyes.

We fight in silence, we grieve alone,
Inside these bodies that feel like stone.
A little kindness, a hand to lend—
Could be the reason someone won’t end.
This isn’t a story of pity or plea,
It’s just a truth—please, listen to me.

Please be kind in what you do and the tone that you speak,
You don't know who might be fractured and weak.
One gentle act could help someone today—
One cruel word might take them away.
We are all just moments from breaking apart...
So lead with compassion. It could save a heart.

The True Form of Life

The True Form of Life
Life: A timeless adventure from beginning to end.Beginning as  an infant with no worries or secrets,To an elderly senior with desires to live and explore, More than it’s given time.Seeing the great values of life and beauty, Through the eyes of which never grow old,And is the strongest muscle in our bodies.Using our voice to make an input into the world,To finding the answers hidden deep in our souls. Our minds take on the hardest quest,Than any life obstacle could ever thrust before us.But in time, our minds will disintegrate,And all those adventures will never be told nor uncovered. The memories will fade, and the love and strength we control, Will cease to exist. It is the greatest struggle we all fail to accept.Life ends one way or another. Our lifeless bodies become grass and get to live on whether we know it or not, Until the world ends.  From traveling coast to coast and,To clinging on to life possessions earned overseas. It is the ruins of the adventures and passionsthat we try so desperately, to express.Seeing your thirst for beauty expand,Then learning gratitude from our hearts and minds. In a new perspective. One day, the concussions and internal memories,Shall be fulfilled and placed into an eternal tomb. The secrets, hopes, and dreams, may never be fully reinstated,But it shall be recognized.Once you tell someone,Once, you let your guard down,Once you let your person be known,May you truly share a place in this world. It is known as the true form of life. The journey you started and want to continue for years to come,Will be not forgotten,But embedded into the minds of the new generation. Then, finally the struggle to life, Will be no more.

Accidental Faith

Born of parents who hoped in the cross
By faith a title 'Christian' am stamped
But as years flew, the mind unsettled -
On a single faith but probed for truth.

Jesus wise a man of grit but meek
Who placed love before own death
Even an atheist would love him still
For he spoke of justice & love alone

Religion lost its charm walled by men
Somany gods claimed its walls to hide
Many waged wars over the caged gods
Only the dead realise it's a hollow cage.

Wise men always are born to reclaim
Our lost values and spread only love
But world never ready to wisdom share
But we go on holding our selfish flags.

We make religions world's worst snare
To catch souls by fear and promise
Making them immune to kill or curse
god as cause killed more than all wars.

Love is lost to bigoted self and pride
Justice is lost to myths and deities
We refer these to fit our power games
As majority gathers muscle and rein.

Citizens, let's not be callous and rude
We are born in faiths we never chose
There isn't a choice in mom's womb
Than nestle in it's warmth and grow.

Premium Member Fingers

I now type with only a finger
For neuropathy makes me lame
Muscle spasms in hands linger
My hands seem to ignore my brain

It’s as if I never was a typist
Who flew 65 words a minute
Now I’m limited my gripe is
Takes me longer to finish

You’d think I’d complain I’m not vain
My other deficiencies are worse
But who wants an artist who can’t paint
Or a poet too hurt to word verse

I know my lupus has no cure
My asthma is no fun to me
But give me fingers fast and pure
To delight in the writing with ease

When I try to play piano
Fudge fingers suck the air
Notes yell like silver Soprano
A melody ruined by despair

I have mixed feeling about it
We all have a cross to bare right
But with fingers like mine I doubt it
Could complain and moan all night

Dear poetess had hip surgery
And has persevered despite all
So I say what the nerve of me
To complain of finger pain small talk

Humankind iLL-Humane--

Left on a chain in the rain and in summer’s heat;
Continued barking
Ill humane treatment
Carcass
Remains left on chains--caged up dogs
Maggot distorted flesh rotted muscle and fat
My passion is the humane humankind
I felt compelled to sniff the people--caged up dogs
only this and benevolence
I crave the caring, charitable cosmos
Lassie
My passion is the humane humankind
I felt compelled to sniff the people--caged up dogs
Only this and a benevolence
I crave the caring, charitable cosmos

Continued barking
Ill humane treatment
Carcass--caged up dogs
Remains left on chains
Maggot distorted flesh rotted muscle and fat
Shed whats left of their fur make it a hat
How morbid…--caged up dogs

My passion is the humane humankind
I felt compelled to sniff the people
only this and benevolence
I crave the caring, charitable cosmos--caged up dogs
Rin Tin Tin
Benji

Much I marveled this humane temporarily
I felt compelled to sniff the occupants
Remembering many protohuman, caring residents
Only this and a humaneness
To warn me about the ungodliness--caged up dogs

That moment my soul grew evil
It was shrivels, primeval, medieval!
Upheaval, upheaval!
Beethoven
I heard a monstrous, hermetic inconveniencing
My passion is the humane humankind
I felt compelled to sniff the people
only this and benevolence--caged up dogs
Bruiser
Buddy
Chopper
Cujo
Daisy
Chance and Shadow

I crave the caring, charitable cosmos
Bark bark-bow wow, what’s the use-wow, primeval, medieval!
Marley, Hosehead Hooch
Upheaval, upheaval!
Stop mistreating canine animals
You subhuman protohuman?--caged up dogs

Not Her Type

She sees him strutting the boardwalk
eating from a greasy bag,
he’s not her type; Jersey shore muscle,
distasteful for a girl of her upbringing.

Yet her body latches onto his,
magnetized by a shocking carnality.
Her pith is tinder
a smolder beyond her intellect.

Imagination leads her
through tunnels only the willfully blindfolded
would enter.

The night is full of erotica
she once saw
carved upon an Indian temple.

She is passionate about
the muscular scent of grease,
for his figure strutting to her table.

The morning finds her
washing her sleepless face -
watching the mirror slowly blush.

What makes us sluggish, unable to get moving

It's something to do with low pressure

Known to cause problems in migraine sufferers

Unavoidable, can't change the weather

Happily I can say I'm not one of those sufferers

But I sure can sympathize, my friends

Other than a few minor muscle aches and pains

With this ailment I don't have to contend

Throughout my life I've been free of major ailments

My ten fingers and ten toes are all crossed

Whatever's ahead I'll have a hard time accepting

Must be brave and strong at all costs

It's never been a topic we like to discuss

When we're young and our life's on a roll

But lately the subject's been foremost on my mind

Guess my age is finally taking it's toll

As the old saying goes, “what will be will be”

The time frame is not usually up to us

Unless we determine we can't take it any more

And decide we've had quite enough

I don't recommend taking the cowards way out

Hang in there and see the thing through

Perhaps Nicole Kidman wants to feel your body

And show you her hidden tattoo!!!

Premium Member Cities of Sonnets

It was tantalizing, sweet completion
Lines of blue ink filling white space
Tastes of emotions, colors of consonants
Music of vowels, syllables singing
To create, and satiate

Then, time thinned
Responsibility and stress stepped in
Poetry, after all, does not pay the bills
Stop cloud watching and become an adult
They said, and they were right

So I packed her away, that silly girl
relegated to the dusty back room of memory
Gray and wilted, foolish scribblings
Nobody cared about anymore

Years, decades of feigned disinterest
Begins to dissolve in rediscovering
The flash of joy in composing
Ignited by a song-writing friend
Who dared encouragement

Steps sluggish, atrophied, but there
Saved in muscle memory
I hungered for nourishment, for balance
On unsteady limbs - I wanted my silly girl back
And I have her, revived on Soup from
My poetry sisters and brothers

Now, I am gaining
The reach of my wings
Soaring over cities of sonnets
Neighborhoods of roundels and rispettos
A haiku hamlet, an acrostic alleyway
Kingdoms of pantoums and villanelles
To the unfenced openness
Of free verse

I am still the bedrock of me
Stretching to climb taller trees.
