Premium Member Bitter-Sweet Memories

Most times, there was just the three of us Most times, we would escape without a fuss

It was a 'Back of the Bus' kind of experience Actually, it was worse, because there was 'no Bus'

It's like this: In my neck of the woods, there was a big PLAYGROUND, but one built just for 'Whites Only', and

we were Black. It wasn't that we didn't know, nor that we couldn't read. It's just that we wanted to PLAY, and

did not really care about anything else. We knew that if we were caught, the three of us would have to 'kick up dust',

because someone would run us off. That PLAYGROUND was equipped with the strongest swings, merry-go-round, and sliding board.

I tell you, kids were born to PLAY, and when that time came, and the coast was clear, fear of racism disappeared. In the minds

and hearts of Dennis, Johnnie, and myself, the 'spirit of PLAY' appeared and we, like gangbusters, rushed to the great forbidden PLAYGROUND.

Growing up in The South during the 50's was a bitter-sweet experience; but today, it's a little sour, but mostly a very sweet memory.

You Say I Say

You say there is no God. You believe in evolution. You say that all conditions were right for life on Earth. The temperature was right, the oxygen was right, the hydrogen was right. I say where did the temperature come from? Where did the oxygen and the hydrogen come from? You say they came to be when the universe was created by the big bang theory, or possibly the dust bowl theory. You say by chance the Earth landed the exact distance and angle from the Sun so that the conditions were right for life on our planet. Thus, evolution began towards the start of conscious man. I say where did the big bang come from? Where did the ingredients in the dust bowl come from?

What started the whole process in motion in the beginning? What created the first circumstance for the very first particle of matter anywhere? What scientific formula can tell you that from nothing, no atoms, no chemicals, no gasses, no reality whatsoever, that the first particle of matter self generated? None, It did not happen. Science and common sense tells us that it had to be created. And it was created by God.

You say the Earth and the Universe is very old and took millions of years to evolve. I say it is as old as man took six days to create. You say that science has it all figured out. With all their education and scientific experience nothing is unknown to man. I say that we cannot begin to understand the knowledge and power of God’s plans future and past. For what we think is starting to happen, God has already finished. God was here at the beginning of time, and is at the end of time, at the same time.

You say we are a race of advanced animals, with the power to communicate because of a conscience thought process. We will live, reproduce and die. I say we are divine beings, created in God’s likeness, with a soul, and a will of our own. We have been given a gift to choose right from wrong, believe or not to believe in God.

You say that after death, there is nothing but non existence and to the food chain we will return. I say because of God’s grace there is a Heaven and a hell. Because God became man, suffered, died and was resurrected, we will have a destiny to fulfill after death.

What do you say?

Good Old Days

Sunday afternoon my grandmother decided to take me down with her to the memory lane.
She seemed excited like a child traveling first time on an aeroplane.
"Those were the days,
when everything was fresh and pure,
these artificial appetizers I can no longer endure."

My grandmother is seventy three,
talking about her childhood filled her with glee.
Then she told me they were five siblings,
the elders decided to not send the girls to school because what they will do by learning the table of two.

"This was the norm my dear,"
she tried to explain,
I disapproved and showed my disdain.
I know how much she loved studying .
If only she had got a chance.
Her happy memories made me go into a state of trance.

She spoke about her aunt who lost her husband when she was sixteen,
she was forced to wear white and if there was an auspicious event in the house she was never to be seen.

She spoke about all of this without any emotions,
while her talks ignited inside me an explosion.
How could I think those days were good,
when women were dependent on men for basic needs like food.

God forbid if your husband died,
you were a liability who always complied.
My grandmother told me about this one woman,
whose husband left her and her three kids to fend for themselves.
It was god's decision my grandmother told,
my thoughts I could no longer hold.

Grandma,
"It was never god's decision for those kids to have such a miserable life or that woman to strive hard to survive.
It was the decision of the society as a whole,
to cripple every women and break their soul.
No education,no hobbies only bearing kids was their duty,
if your husband is nice good luck or the biggest curse of your life will be your own beauty."

"God never told that widows were supposed to stay inside,
or to shave their head and to never walk outside at night."
She smiled at me and told me I was right,
she was glad that today girls are given opportunities and that my future looks bright.

Her talks made me rethink,
were the good old days really so good?
The time when women were denied basic rights,
women who waited and waited but were never rescued by the proverbial knight.

In the dead of a moonlit night, when the stars are dazzling ~
                thousands of glittering fireflies illuminate the sky,
                              when it's noiseless everywhere...
                  The tranquil whole world falls in deepest slumber,
              who wakes up at midnight, and feels close to the other,
                 In perpetuum et Unem Diem...forever and one day
                               two souls.. Always together!

                   How ensorcelling is your majestic ship, My Darling,
                             which sails you away from me,
                     to a distant land, full of thrilling excitements,
                     from my lonely mundane life, I imagine thee!

                     I see the endless beauty of earth with your eyes,
                    enjoy the eternal songs of Nature with your heart,
                            It happened when we grew up together,
                            We became one soul, we became one!

                              The bashful boy, and the demure girl,
          Looked all around, looked everywhere, except inside their hearts,
                             didn't recognize the surreal longing,
                                   until fate had them apart!

      Now at the dead of a moonlit night, when the stars dazzle in darkness~
                thousands of glittering fireflies illuminating the sky,
                               when it's noiseless everywhere,
                              The world falls in deepest slumber,
              waking up at midnight, who feels close to the other,
                                  In perpetuum et Unem Diem...

Notes: Latin phrase "In Perpetuum et Unem Diem" means “Forever and One Day” in English

Issues, like mushrooms, spring up when two or more humans meet,
Issues start from how you are and what size is monkey's feet;
And thus my friend and I, like nail and flesh - same age - once met,
Debated on existence - theme fitting an intellect...!

Socrates, the thinking giant's thoughts on society!
Transcendence and idea-world of Plato’s gaiety!
Substance and categories of Aristotle - complex!
Theophrastus Botanical world - looked like an apex...!

Descartes –cogito ergo sum; Spinoza - sole substance,
John Lock - life, liberty, and property as confidence;
Discussions went endless like the flow of a stream fluent,
We had put a break and dwelt on matters very current...

Existentialism, like a thrilling tale, so exited us,
Concepts such as - God's no more - man is in confusing fuss;
Absurdity, null, void - A world filled with hell-like chaos,
If death puts everything at a standstill, what's not pathos?

Yet, there's no absolute end to creaturely life, I said,
Amidst death, there's the great resurrection and transcendence;
This theory, like a scorpion-sting, he soon reacted,
As though I'm an Orangutan, he got much protracted...

If so, will I rise, like Jesus, with my body and soul?
Or take rebirth into a dog or donkey or an owl?
Or from my ashes arise an orchid and multiply?
Or in soil or molecules of the cosmos will I sigh?

When I felt the arguments get heated like a quarrel,
And could bring in our heart cracks like drought dismally cruel;
I thought friendly relation is greater than life after,
And tried to replace the debate with some jokes and laughter!

Well, whatever way we exist after death, is life too,
Existence unblemished in heart, I said, is always true!
This too did not cut the cake, and he stood firm on his view,
I thought, within: if he holds to his view, why should I woo?

The world's vast; life's great; could I close growth in a cool cocoon?
Thoughts, like seas, are wavy and endless; is life a small boon?
My cat may have three legs; can't another have four or more?
Hence, in a world of views, should arguments have any shore?

Piercing screams slice the air
Creating a sense of joy with laughter
Coloring the moments in exhilaration
Left behind from some child’s imagination

Echoes of small feet darting and sprinting
Leaving stirrings of complete abandonment
The knowing that comes from sharing hours
Spent in breathless bliss, creating wonders
That last through the day and well into night
Stabbing at the hot sun and startling the stardust
Twinkles of a night breaking into angelic song

One little girl holds the jump rope’s end
As another child skips to the beat of its spin
Leaving another girl waiting by the oaks
Hoping to take a turn when the time is right

A small boy holds a ball and seems intent
On tossing it across the grassy field
Where so many others have played this game
Before, moving to the bases and shouting
With enthusiasm… children filled with elation

Dancing in waves of lavender and rose, azure tones
Caress the buttery sun with sincerity that comes
From knowing this is a day about to be spent swirling
Twisting and turning, spiraling out of control, thriving
In the kind, but fleeting hours that awaken gladness
And soothe the soul in seas of compassion and creativity
Discovered on the wings of fairies and friends who grow up
Together, on the playground that holds such charming memoirs

On this playing field, this playground, every soul is essential
A thought expressed by the one who knows that this world
Dances to life when their feet hasten across fresh grass
Leaving only the dreams to last beneath the melodies of dew
And sun, rain and moon, starry nights when every thought knows
The playground is where a yearning goes to find love alive inside
It is captured in the reflection of laughing eyes on every smile
From child to child – playing out the song inside their hearts!

 On the playground… there is butterfly dreams and kisses
From a breeze that whispers of serenity which brings
Faithful friends together on wonderous wings of innocence

On the playground… there is pure love

Friendships may thrive and blossom in spite of disagreements. A difference of opinions need not destroy friendships.

A friend of mine had gotten married a few years prior. That marriage ended rather quickly after much disfunction.

He began another relationship that lasted until he became Sexually unfaithful to her. She immediately let him go. Shortly

Thereafter, we began discussing his past and future with women, And charting a way forward. To my surprise, he soon started dating

Another young lady. At this point, we had strikingly different opinions about His new girl friend. I thought that it was too soon which greatly contrasted

With his feelings about the matter. My opinion had nothing to do with the girl, Whom I knew, but everything to do with his refusal to come to gripes with his

Lack of maturity. In very short order, he informed me that the two of them Were planning to get Married. I informed him face to face that I disapproved

Of the marriage purely on matters of Principle. We agreed to disagree, and They went forward with their wedding plans. As they made their plans, he

Asked if I would attend their wedding, and I said, "Absolutely. I do not Approve, but I am still your friend". Later on, he asked if I would participate

In his wedding, whereupon my response was, "Absolutely not". I loved him And his future wife, but I made it clear that I diabolically opposed their

Marriage and would not lend a hand in any way that signaled that I approved of their marriage. Their marriage went forward; but so has our friendship.

Praise I Embrace

When the struggles and grudges of life weakens me down to my bones and marrows,
And l have none to strengthen me;
The grace of praise l embrace will quicken and be my strength.
When the devil fires an arrow of sorrow towards me,
ln order to narrow my passion for the vision of my mission in life;
The grace of praise l embrace will be my shield.

When the challenges and pains of life groomed in fears,
Strains my heart to rain down tears;
And l have none to comfort me;
The grace of praise l embrace will be my comfort.
When life seems so tough and my challenges becomes too hot to bear,
And l have none to bear my burdens with me;
The grace of praise l embrace will be my refuge.

When my enemies directs their weapons of destruction and distraction towards me,
ln order for me to leave my dreams, visions and life ambitions unpushed,
The grace of praise l embrace will shield me and inspire me never to retire until l am discovered.

When l am frustrated, distressed and stressed in the battles of life,
And l have none to console or encourage me to move ahead;
The grace of praise l embrace will be my fortress and my solace.
When my feet becomes feeble in the faculty of life,
And l have none to uphold me to be strong;
The grace of praise l embrace will be my strength and shelter.

When temptation, trials and tribulation engulfs me like a mother hen engulfs her chicks,
And l have none to unveil me;
The grace of praise l embrace will unveil me and announce me to my world.
When l am battered, shattered and scattered in the battles of life,
And l have none to come to my rescue;
The grace of praise l embrace will gather me up and put me together.

When l kneel before the creator and maker of heaven and earth in prayer,
And l know not how to present my matters before him;
The grace of praise l embrace will speak on my behalf.
When l am knocked down on my feet by the struggles and battles of this life,
And l have none to raise me up;
The grace of praise l embrace will raise me up.

Treasure of Love

Nothing is found, except
it is hidden,
Nothing is hidden, except
it is a secret;
Nothing is a secret except
it is a treasure.
Beloved,
you are a secret treasure
hidden to be found.
Indeed,
you are a goddess of
beauty.
When l behold your eyes l
see love,
l see us in you.
When l weighed your
mind, l found courage,
when you smile my heart
smiles.
When you speak the
burdens of my heart are
lifted up.
In my dreams is you that l
see,
ln my nostrils is you that l
breath,
ln my heart is you that
braves me,
ln my visions is you that l
picture,
ls you that l capture.
When l first saw you,
l met a stranger.
As l talked with you,
l discovered a divine
embodiment with
character and charisma.
As l thought of you,
l discovered my friend.
As l came closer,
l discovered my missing
rib.
As l walked with you,
l found my wife.
When l gazed at your
beauty,
a spell of love gripped me.
I felt a sigh of relief in my
heart.
You have l loved and you
will l love.
Loving you means so
much to me,
beholding your
immaculate beauty
beautifies the glory of
our future.
My tears and fears is to
lose you.
I am perfected in your
love,
you are the tender spirit
of my heart,
the one that softens my
heart;
your love have stolen my
heart away.
I've never been so much
in love,
not until l met you.
Losing you means loss of
countless memories to
me,
ln loving you have l
understood the worth of
true and genuine love.
My soul bleed for the
moment of our union as
one.
I long for the moment
when we shall cleave
together as birds in the
sky,
singing the songs of love
together as one,
shearing in an everlasting
happiness.
Then shall l tell you how
much you mean to me,
how effective your spell
of love have gripped me.
We're not only humanly
designed for each other,
we're divinely designed
from each other.
My love for you is forever

your presence

to be in your presence
sheltered under ýour wing
a place of saftey
peaceful and my heart can sing
in your presence
all things are calm
protected from lifes storms
and safe from harm
in your presence
we can be close to you
and learn more
about the amazing things you still do
in your presence
is a place to rest
ln your presence
is the place that is best Amen

Psalm 91
1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
    will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
    my God, in whom I trust.”

3 Surely he will save you
    from the fowler’s snare
    and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his feathers,
    and under his wings you will find refuge;
    his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
5 You will not fear the terror of night,
    nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
    nor the plague that destroys at midday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side,
    ten thousand at your right hand,
    but it will not come near you.
8 You will only observe with your eyes
    and see the punishment of the wicked.

9 If you say, “The Lord is my refuge,”
    and you make the Most High your dwelling,
10 no harm will overtake you,
    no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
    to guard you in all your ways;
12 they will lift you up in their hands,
    so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra;
    you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

14 “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him;
    I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
15 He will call on me, and I will answer him;
    I will be with him in trouble,
    I will deliver him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
    and show him my salvation Amen
