Oh come with me ye boys and girls;
And what stops, I ask, the youth and the old?
Come ye of all age and gender,
I'll lead you to magic, wonders untold.
I lead you deep into woods, dreary and dark,
And moss-laid meadows by a rill and a brook,
Where dragons and demons cast their fiery spell,
Great venturings into quests are undertook.
Did you summon up fairies, is that your wish?
Or perhaps sinewed heroes, comely maidens you'd like.
I'll give them all, and some more, if that's your wish,
Perhap's you'd like some Zen, linked with maintaining your bike.
Most splendorous are my realms, on Earth and afar,
From dark Styx to Elysium, Valhalla's Halls,
To Barsoom and beyond to Syrius, and Dog,
I'll take you through great deserts, through Poseidon's squalls.
Or perhaps you'd prefer to hear from wizened old sages,
Of wisdom, of life, of what awaits you in the pale,
Or some sagas of survival, of heroic strife,
Maybe you want the telling of whodunnit tales.
I'll get tired of the telling, leave plenty unsaid
But you're sure to be richer by the tales in my book
I ask of you nothing, neither fee nor a price,
Just cosily curl with a tome in your favourite nook.

Today we celebrate our Veterans, it’s a day to formally address
and thank the veterans for the freedoms we Americans possess.
Our veterans are inextricably linked with our freedom…
ensuring our freedom is what all Veteran’s do
If you have ever doubted this…let me spell it out for you.
Freedom should be VALUED in this or any land
It is the right of every individual...something to demand.
Freedom, true freedom, when all is said and done
is not meant for just a few…it is meant for EVERYONE.
Freedom should be TREASURED and universally embraced…
It should never be taken for granted…dishonored or erased.
Freedom, as Abe Lincoln knew, is the last best hope on EARTH
It is one of the dreams we we pray for at the bedside of each birth.
Freedom must RADIATE from each of us, it’s a song the world must sing
from every church bell in the land…freedom should always ring.
Freedom derives from ACTION and should be the goal of you and me
that our actions help every person in this world say with confidence, “I am free.”
And though many of us in this country know freedom and feel blessed
we must remember NONE of us is truly free when others are oppressed.
Finally freedom is SPIRITUAL, it truly make a person whole
when the freedom in their heart matches the freedom in their soul.
But once our veteran’s ensure our freedom…once our freedom has been gained
It’s up to us to honor them…to show their fight was not in vain.
Because freedom hangs by a tenuous thread…as many with freedom have forgot…
and either everyone on Earth is free…or everyone is not.
So we pray for the day people everywhere will come and go as they please
that they’ll be afforded the ability to travel around the world with ease.
And as we honor and thank our Veterans today…
we pray for the day we will see
A world where everyone in every corner of this planet
is safe…secure…and free

There's always love, hope
Hope and there's light
Light to guide thru night
Night and don't lose sight
Sight with Lord can cope
Cope as seasons go
Go each single year, day
Day with Lord can hope
Hope lives through God, love
Love from God just flows.

So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Crannies in Time
Resting beneath a pile of silken scarves and soft kid gloves -
Hatboxes filled with old tweed caps, cuff links bearing long lost crests,
A leather box – a jewelry case – opened to reveal a ballerina’s spinning grace,
To release a mania of memories, popping up like popcorn, as if they waited
To jump out - surprise conspiring to astonish eyes of wonder;
Travelers in time, arms of welcome pointing to a portal for hearts returning
With startled souls among the murals painted on their walls in time indelible,
Revisit wrinkles in eternity where moments recline -
Retell events re-formed by memories cast in sterling,
Linked by silver circles showcasing milestones days, precocious pets,
Musicals with wishing wells, a lovers vow, frayed dancing shoes,
Milestone birthdays, skis for winter, umbrellas for a city clothed in rain,
Side by side with souvenirs, states with nicknames stamped on their backsides
Collections, a crowded patch of rambling flowers scampering up a garden wall
Poking through the tiny crannies left by minutes flying by in streamers flowing,
Daylight merging into starlight - midnight gliding past each dawn -
Captivating charms guarding sacred spaces where treasures abide
Now seen through cracks in time, amid the winds with hands of ice,
Hearts welcomed back to reflect in sanctuaries warm
With new eyes that once searched for ghosts of meaning –
Specters - understanding - come in focus.
OF LIVES PAST a haibun prose envelope
Perfection is an illusive pastime ,an unending quest that hides delusion in uncharted waters on life's path.Distractions, obstacles spring up unannouced, by chance, opportunities deflate in despair.Again, again, the siren's call. beckons innocent naivety, nothing is simple one is alive.
uniquely ourselves
littered by our obsessions-
loneliness cries out
One is alive ,each day, breathing, eating living, yet separate, alone but part of another, blood smeared by genes linked ,chain by chain in generations pattern. We wait and wait in line, repeating the same mistakes, treading the same circle.Imaging progress is reality, pretending we are wise and certain.Never to wonder why!
You may hear me recite this haibun and much of my PS anthology on youtube under my pen name ichthyschiro.

Joy Unspeakable
Culminate since birth, sprung opened trials,
hither, somewhat tither, consequence waits,
opportune knock as an opened door smiles,
means of one's worth misery, rapture rates.
Character, their drawn portion brings about,
steadfastness accrued, witnessed by others,
contentment approves summation per clout,
worries cringe test, gladness is my druthers.
Cheerfulness wholehearted, sure of oneself,
planned groundwork correspond accurately,
prevailing arrangement fills some bookshelf,
groundbreaking moments burst rapturously.
Enchanting anecdotes, proving their ground,
recurrence linked praising is the best sound.

Life goes full circle Harry Finnegan thought,
Admiring his newly refurbished vending cart;
Spick and span with racy lines, a proper seat,
Digital till, weatherproofed, and state of the art
Men lean street ready selling machine.
And here I am back in the old game,
So much changed so that only
Me and the nag are the same.
Finnegan’s horse stifled a chortle.
Old Harry didn’t know of course
But standing between those shafts
Was a veritable living Bionic Horse,
From the communications point,
With video cams and blue tooth sets,
Fully primed and satellite linked
To all the local police comms net.
They would always know his position
Within a radius of ten point four feet
On demand any time of day or night
And every bit so wonderfully neat.
And to ease the boredom
If trade was slow and idle
He’d got radio one
Broadcast through his bridle.
Let’s get on the road
It’s nearly time
To continue the fight
Against rising crime.
Would their cunning plan still work?
It was after all a whole year
Since Harry’s last rode his round;
The police needn’t have had any fear
At every corner there were lines
And very excited citizens queues
All there to say hello
Excited by the news
That Yoghurt and Milk were back
And Harry Finnegan rode again.
Tears could be seen in the eyes
Of even the hardest of the men:
And the police looked forward
To some well paid overtime
In their hi tech venture against
That local petty crime.
And all loved Old Harry and his horse
Though not in any carnal way, of course
It doesn't pay to criticize
The world we see before our eyes
But I'll admit, it's very strange
Accepting each not-needed change.
Alexa keeps your shopping list
(A paper one has been dismissed)
And all the bills are paid online
(A mailer, stamped, did suit me fine).
The things we get from Amazon
(To name them, I'd go on and on)
Once waited, shelved, within a store;
Such shopping trips exist no more.
You program music on your phone
(The CD player left alone)
And brand-new shows you get to stream
(TV's no longer reign supreme).
Yet what's the point if we complain?
There's nothing we can really gain.
We must adapt or we'll be linked
With others who've become extinct.
Far from the throes with foes who dip acid,
but
still wiping flows from my nose, cooked by oil-based pros. The intensity grows, when it's mixed with White Whoes', and you come out yo' clothes, 'cause you're froze like Lake Placid.
"That's some good SHYT!" exclaimed on the laundromat curb. N**** STILL had a ten spot, for a stick of some herb, and it betta not be no damned reggie.
Veronica and Betty like glue, but they 'bout to come through, 'cause they're ATM's through. Plus I told them whoe's "Fix some spaghetti."
They never invited me into the White House. You know? Though for more than a 'dub, I was just a rock's throw.
I never linked up with NAACP, but got drunk in a spot with a man named Barry.
I never sat down with ambassa-door mats, but Jamaican representatives held me down pat. They put green in my lungs and a gat' on my back, and in twenty-odd years, we had but one attack.
Yeah, we was like that. A class of persons who fight back. These days, the surface of my heart is striped black, but if I be the harmed one, then my Moms' won't like that.
Definition of manhood, right? A male bossed by three wenches, his daughter, Mom, and wife. Somehow I find it a startling plan, to remove my , so you'll call me a man.
I just
wow.
Chocolate City, do you miss me? If you do, the feeling's not mutual, not anymore.
