Why do we talk, the words we speak only mock.
like a parent she's harsh and informative.
Like a kid he's careless, and calm with inane childish mannerisms
Opposites attract they say, yet reality claims they pull away.
They both trekked the odyssey innocent young and without thought
Why do they speak, when the words only mock.
Why are they together when not high they're angry and bitter
o.c.d she's fastidious in every aspect of life.
Unkempt he's never organized his feelings he hides
His friends in awe of her as they unravel together.
They both ignored the rumors and gossip agreeing that others opinions matter not.
Why are they together when not high they're angry and bitter.
Why this? Why that? Everyone wants answers.
Knowing all seems proactive, but be careful known to be negative.
with knowing all you'd be prepared also unintentionally killing surprise.
No euphoria can be felt no tree on christmas life would become dull.
Why This? Why that? Do we truly want answers to every question asked?

Second Place
April Fools is on the new horizon
When the next time the sun rises
There will be innocent fibbing and lying
Is it a prank, a joke?
Or just a forum for one to stand up to insult?
It is a whole day dedicated to giving
Laughter an opportunity to make a better living
Hopefully the day will be relaxed
And nobody will face the issue of being sacked
Beware of the pen
With the exploding ink it could send
Then there could be an alluring call
That rings inside the working stall
Look at things closer
Especially if the reading is off the informative poster
All in all a good little spook
Could end up as a romantic hook
And as time carries on
From the flirty spring fling con
He could walk down the aisle to say ‘I do’
Allowing her to reply, “April Fools on you”
In whispers of lyric and rhythm, we find,
Resonate echoes, the heart intertwined.
To contemplate in shadows, where thoughts softly steer,
Soul steering moments, where dreams draw near.
Dance in the twilight, let melodies flow,
Listen intently, let the beat gently show.
Hear the instruments weave their stories untold,
A portrait vibrant, in colors of gold.
Connect the soul to something profound,
In good music, a base that lifts from the ground.
Uplift the spirit, let faith intertwine,
In echoes of hope, where love brightly shines.
In the festive air, we find peace and grace,
To grieve and rejoice, in this sacred space.
Praise and worship, with hearts open wide,
In adoring moments, let truth be our guide.
There was once an era, educative and wise,
Where music spoke volumes, beneath the vast skies.
A profoundly mesmerizing, informative sound,
Where each note and story in unity found.
But now, it seems, in the noise we reside,
Profane and lame, where meanings collide.
Laced with vulgarity, lost in the fray,
As massive boxes drown wisdom away.
Yet still, in the chaos, if we pause and reflect,
We can find in the noise, a chance to connect.
For even in fanatical beats that seem out of line,
There lies a thread of truth, waiting to shine.
So let us muse, let the music arise,
In every beat, a chance to be wise.
In stories of faith, hope, and love,
Let’s seek the meaningful, rise high above.
Once there was an average Joe
You may know
Named Poe
Having a soul stirring heart
To start
He did his society part
Right up until riding in the Poe edict funeral cart
Telling tales
Artistic, entertaining, informative daily mail
Appearing in the newspaper without fail
Ghostly guilt-ridden windy gales
Published to scare
Those blowing hot air
Some may state
This historical great
Enjoyed a night where drinking
Clouded his mind no longer clearly thinking
Sun scribe was found dead
Reason reported spirits played with the writer's head
Known for poetic verse
Setting plots befitting the hearse
Finding words to describe deathly birds
You see Ravens love to steal
It was their deal
Probably to have a meal
That seemed real
Reflecting on Boston Baltimore life
Sharp as a vengeful knife
While the 19th Century journalist searched for the truth
Someone hit the corrupted roof
An enemy or foe
Wanting him to go
Ending his interpretive show
Today haunting is the creative character’s game
Academics stoking Edgar’s fine name
Respectfully no shame
Using a theatrical stage
Reading from the author’s page
Unleashing gothic images from the disturbed cage
Hoping the message is understood
Translation needed, grammar not so good
Now in the modern era called fake news
Pointing fingers at the accused
Ponder when in the Sunday column pews
Do you really want to be a part of a bloody story?
Only to end up on talk shows Geraldo or Maury
Languages are important its worth learning
How nice it would be to understand other cultures
To communicate and converse with others in a variety of ways
Languages are diverse and unique in so many ways
Languages are informative, expressive and directive in nature
Languages is another way of us getting along
Languages is like the rose of Heaven
Falling in love all over again
Words of similarity played and rehearsed
In all forms of glorious melodies
Harmony and Symphony becoming like one
Languages are the reason each and every day
Cultures, nations and people communicate with each other
Learning to love, respect and understand one another
The use of different Languages
Allows us to respect, communicate and get along.
There are terms humanity uses, phrases words appear."
To communicate emotions, in aim of clarity, or to help
Verbally in communicating our anxiety, or sense of honour
Even anger, love or fear.' Some terms are formed generically.' Yet others are forged and planned.' To strike
At the spirit, heart and souls of 'right thinking women and
Man' the word ( elites ) is being used to describe indeed
The dregs..' its as dis-informative in the context and concept
Indeed its correction ' must get now on its legs' to
Highlight those of repulsive ways..Who glorify abuse who
Plan nightmares today.' Who facilitate urusry murder and
Greed, who co-opt and co-erce for the basest of needs who
To be validated are willing to do the vilest' the dirtiest things.)
Scum could do.' I find no word low enough.! No term that
Will match.' To the acts of these lunatics and the sick dreams they hatch.' (They call wicked for good) remember
My friend; (2020?) and just extrapolate' then and only things will
Get on the mend!
On the shadowed banks of river they sat together
Adulating setting sun quivering in rippling currents
Where golden filaments shimmered on blue water
Forming and breaking ephemeral circular motions
Undulating amber rays on eve’s buoyant emotions.
Her dimples smiled upon her visage of royal poise
Enticing him to probe her cheerful, enamored eyes
Mesmerizing as yet un-blossomed amatory dreams
As they raved of college, friends, late nights carefree
Exploring coyly maiden impulses of mature themes
Inflaming seductively, untrodden clues of fantasies.
Alas! those memories now~ dulcet still, but empty.
Never he saw her again on her side of the prairies
Strolling nonchalantly, engrossed in birds chirping,
No one standing there now to steal his glances slyly
Hiding behind notions of secrecy, at first meekly,
Though later, quite daringly, wantonly, frequently;
Elevating him unlike anyone else, before, or since.
Her last letter to him was cryptic, yet informative:
A rustic farm house, cow moos amid clucking sounds,
Boy and a girl, flower beds, and a dog named Duffy~
A simple life on landscapes lauding ancestral heritage.
He remembers well~ saying it, genuinely meaning it,
As movingly she indulged in life that could have been,
Awkwardly dropping hints, soon she’ll be married.
Yet, here she is now intimating, she too so loved him~
Validating his belief—though offering a mere fig leaf--
A vain gesture to convince him she honored his dream
Memorializing secret pact, living life in his blueprint:
Boy and a girl, rustic farm house, a dog named Duffy.

Title chosen: Fig Leaf
I write poetry,
Simple poetry,
As simple as can be,
My grammar isn't hot,
Or my punctuality.
Sometimes I find it confusing,
When my pen flows easily,
It takes on a life of its own,
Taking control of me.
It has a sense of purpose,
As it scribbles away,
The content and message
Become as plain as day
I am unaware of holding the pen,
There isn't time to work it out
As off it goes again,
Effortlessly cavorting
All over the page,
Informative, reporting
Things humourous and sage
As I read the effort
My trusty quill has done
I salute this ink-filled implement
For it's the clever one!
Generative Persistence
Give it a name; “generative presence”, “persistence”
Emergent with life, feeling and a pulse
Send it on its way while clinging to the egg
Enable it from a distance to become of use
Keep yourself in a suggestive cocoon
State of fixation, enameled in stasis
Embedded in concrete reality if only to form
Wrapped in patterns, in sequences, in character, in disarray
Care to be objective, immersive, informative, and inspired
Decline to describe, suggest, discuss, gaps between life
Grasp the past meandering. Record the record of history
Understand; you are a guest in your own home
In your own existence; fantasies not included
Invoke the yoke of yellow, involve useful dialogue
Desirable, normal, absurd diagnosis of that which is
Adapt to youth as it passes
Glanced at by events unfolding, reflected in a mirror
Placed appropriately in your path
From the context, content of that which is perceived
In the persistence of memory let it live
