It's always a chore to make...and still,
when Halloween comes, I find the will.
I don't rent or buy costumes you see,
but dress myself up like I want to be.
I don't trick or treat as I am too old,
yet, I do it for the kids coming to my door so bold.
Once I stuffed an old shirt and jeans
With rags and paper and other things.
Then I pinned it to the clothing I wore,
Four arms, four legs...who could want more?
One year I wrapped myself in aluminum foil,
Just to see if some of those kids I could roil.
I wasn't exactly the Tin Man of Oz's fame,
But the neighborhood all thought me quite insane.
Having pinned stuffed animals to my shirt one time
The "stuffed shirt" routine was more than a crime.
I have been hunchbacked and straight laced just for the kids,
Some come to my door, just to see what I did.
Last year I took a soft ball and pinned it atop my shoulder,
No, it wasn't there to look like a boulder.
I put a facemask and hat on it you see,
Two heads were better than one, when the kids looked at me.
I've gone to a party wearing shorts 'neath my overcoat,
But being such a flimsy "Flasher", I could not emote.
So, I took the strobe from my camera and held it inside,
Then, when I opened my coat...FLASH...got everyone wide eyed.
I don't do parties for Halloween any more,
Too much work, passing out candy at the door.
But, I still dress up for the kids to know,
That you don't have to buy a costume when imagination will do.
I will wear some wierd outfit that I have tried to do well,
Then yank open the door screaming..."Who's ringing that bell"?
It is often fun to see the reactions my costumes bring each year,
They generally don't know what awaits them here.
It's only once a year that I go on this binge,
The littlest ones never cease to cringe.
Some will run to their parents standing in the drive,
Wondering if such a creature could be alive.
But they eventually come back to reap their treats.
In spite of my bombastic costumal feats.
So, if you come to my door just beware,
More than a crazy poet, you might find here.
It was a Halloween night, one like tonight,
on which this event had taken place
There was a bloody and grizzly murder
by a man, who had no face.
She was just seventeen and all alone,
when that knock came to her door.
That poor little girl, with a future so bright,
is now gone, she’s nevermore.
Blood everywhere, but there was no body,
none the detectives could find.
There are so many thoughts and theories,
but only one really comes to mind.
You see, I have seen this man, too,
this man without the face,
but that was in another far off time
and also in another far off place.
I thought it was over, the murder, the bloodshed.
I guess, now, that I am wrong.
The killer had returned, with blood in his eyes
and now I wish I was wrong.
He lurks in the shadows to cover his trail,
an empty soul, traveling by night.
He seeks those who dared to do him wrong.
Killing them is his delight.
If you were unlucky to ever see his face
you would know he doesn’t have one at all.
For he lost it so many years ago,
when from a rooftop… a nasty fall.
To this day, he seeks his revenge
on those who had thrown him down.
The rage and the killing doesn’t stop with them,
but also anyone who is around.
How do I know so much of this man?
All you really have to do, is ask.
If I say, I would have to kill you then.
To tell you, I’d take off my mask.
" Halloween "
Little trick-or-treaters
roaming autum streets
Filling up their little bags
with sweet yummy treats.
As they run from house to house
collecting all their candy
the children love this time of year
Halloween is pretty dandy.
Some kids are looking cute
some look really scary
most are cartoon charters
and some beast really hairy.
I saw a golden angel
as she looked so cute
then I saw a little boy
dressed just like a brute.
There were many young ones
out with mom and dad
having such a great time
protected and real glad.
All of the little children
were having such a blast
Halloween can never be
a thing that once has past.
Most of the older teen's
are going out to dance
hoping that they find themselves
a love with some romance.
Halloween, is loved by all
a pleasant time of the year
the little ghost and goblins
may even stir your fear...

It Must Be Felt With Your Heart…
It was Halloween night
A cemetery of fright
Surrounded by fog
That pulled you into its bog.
The moonlight shone
A dull orange tone
Yet way up high
Stars twinkled in the sky.
It was a night for the dead
When your fears were fed
And dark shadows loomed
As monsters were groomed.
The chilly fall air
Touched my bones without care
Watching dry leaves dance
In a fallen trance.
You could hear ghost moan
With a haunting groan
As goblins giggled
And chains jiggled.
Flying bats shrieked
As old doors creaked
And witches flew
As cold winds blew.
Pumpkins grinned bright
With a burning light
As dogs growled
While cats prowled.
It was Halloween night
Enclosing me with fright
So I dived into bed
And covered my head.
Out of the ordinary for me--but I wrote this piece while sitting in my car during my lunch
break at 2:30 in the morning. It was incredibly dark and creepy sitting there in the
vacant parking lot while the rest of the world slept and for some reason these words just
started to haunt me. Hope you get a thrill out of reading it!

Oh I've had many wacky costumes through the years
Just to show folks nothing is as it appears!
Once I dressed as a pirate and wore videos
A cable wire necklace and swashbuckler clothes
I was a video pirate and some people guessed
When they saw vcr tapes in my treasure chest
Another time I had antennae and big wings
Dressed like a gypsy with my necklaces and rings
I was a gypsy moth, not many even knew
They'd stare at me and laugh but didn't have a clue
And sorry to say but once I was a pregnant nun
Irreverent,I know, but it was so much fun!
When all else fails and you are kind of in a hurry
Here's a last minute one so you don't have to worry
Put P on a t-shirt,blacken up one eye
You'll be a black-eyed pea,it's good for a stand-by!
I've been a box of Kleenex and a trophy wife
And all the normal, boring things you see in life
But being a creative soul I've tried to be
At Halloween something you don't usually see!
Many girls of this generation love to wear a Halloween costume...
something unusual, not looking like a fair godmother, they assume.
Madonna is their idol too, more stylish than Lady Gaga, but much they seem to share...
they should choose the costume that will make them look much older than they are.
So girls barge in stores and buy that costume you'll love to wear on Halloween night,
don't grab anything that's out of style with bright colors that don't reflect moonlight.
Look dangerous and manacing and chase away naughty boys dressed as vampires,
step on their tiny toes, if they try to grab you imitating bats with red, bloody eyes.
Have fun and smile, no night compares to this one with all the noise and sneers,
be careful not to stare at them for too long...their teeth are sharper than scissors.
Run and keep on screaming and they will stop chasing you or at least give up,
and if they springle Baby Podwer on you...make believe that's dust from a star.
As I recall Halloween as a child
We used to dress up pretty wild
But not in costumes from the mall
In fact not from a store at all
We'd raid the closets in the house
And play a game of cat and mouse
To see who'd get the coolest stuff
An outfit that was off the cuff!
My brother mostly was a ghost
And of his costume he did boast
At times a pirate he would be
But I was more creative,see
A witch or princess wouldn't do
I usually had to think it through
My mom would help me paint and sew
And I was unique don't you know
Sometimes I don't know what I was
But my costume always caused a buzz
Half the fun of Halloween night
Was making sure you looked a fright!
Todays kids don't know what they missed
To them a costume won't exist
Unless at Wally World it's bought
When it's sold out they'll be distraught!
But I think I'm the lucky one
I feel we had a lot more fun
I'm glad I grew up when I did
A store-bought costume-God forbid!

i could have been a pie
but you turned me into a face
with jagged teeth and evil eyes
that makes /\ the /\ children cry
they scream /\ as they run by
afraid they might look in my eyes
and see the devil there and die
but I'm just /\/\/\/\ a pumpkin
in a Halloween disguise
Written October 1, 2009
St. Peter told the devil
It was not appropriate guise,
Perhaps he should dress like the others,
In costumes of men who were wise.
The wise men nodded and smirked
To hear St. Peter give him grief.
That devil was obviously a jerk
Or so they'd come to believe.
"I'm just here for the party,"
They heard the devil say.
"This costume will have to do,
It's so late in the day."
All throughout the party
They would hear the occasional shriek
As the pointy end of the devil's tail
Under skirts did peek.
After several complaints to the host,
St. Peter decided to ask
"Does anyone know who's in that devil gear,
This party will be his last."
No one seemed to know him
But at the unveiling at end of night
The devil was not among them.
He'd disappeared from sight.
All that were on the guest list
Had been accounted for.
It seems someone had crashed the party
And snuck in through the door.

You don't frighten me, my darling.
I would know you anywhere,
Though you're in that witches costume
And that scary mask you wear.
For a moment I am flustered,
Such a creature to behold.
Then I hear that little giggle
Just as in the days of old.
I've been missing your appearance
For these many a Halloween,
Since I dressed you in October
As a little fairy queen.
When you grew little older
You left all of that behind.
You thought Halloween was nonsense,
There were other treats to find.
I've been sitting at my window
For the first ghosts to appear
Of the Halloweens of used to be,
Expecting none this year.
Then I hear the doorbell ringing
And I bolt from my big chair.
On the doorstep stands two tricksters,
Yelling at me "Trick or Dare".
All the joys of the past years
Are now back this Halloween
As I see you in your costume
With your little fairy queen.
