"We are the dead. Short days ago
We loved, felt dawn and saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved ...."

By _ Lt. Col. John McCrae (In Flanders Field) 1915
________________

Let me tell you a story . . .

I recall a little boy who played in the sandbox
and drove me crazy most of the time
I had to chase him everywhere
but he had a dream to be a soldier
a Canadian Peace Keeper
we, the family were proud but frightened also
Dad would say, he is a peacekeeper so he will be okay
anyone who tells you peacekeepers do not die
is lying because they do ...
my little brother came home in a box
like so many he fought in a battle far, far from home
I visit his grave often
passing the rows and rows of white stone military markers
my great grandpa fought in WWI
I have a photograph of him in uniform
my grandpa fought in WW2
he never spoke of what he saw
grandma said he came back a changed man
I think a lot about all the men and women who go to war
who have given their lives for peace
wish I could go to Flanders Field Cemetery
and see the 12,000 crosses row after row
is war to be part of this life forever
for, it seems there is always a war somewhere
I read somewhere that
the poppies are dying in Flanders Field

Dear Soulmate

Some days, I sit and imagine what you look like
I can almost feel your energy
I know you brighten each room you enter
You are the type to be felt before you are seen
Someone everyone adores and remembers
This is an image of you I hold in my dreams
You smell like heaven, and your ambiance grows little flowers that tower over toes, almost touching knees
Your warmth and comfort easily replicate the same feeling I get when wrapped in clean linens in front of a toasty fireplace
When all parts of me are at peace
I can almost feel your breath when I am tucked into thoughts of you, by you
Just to get lost in my dreams about you, next to you
I picture your eyes when I close mine
It's like catching a glorious sunrise
I feel the energy from your bright light
Your arms are a safe house when my insides feel compromised
Your existence, even if not here, brings me a sort of comfort knowing you could be somewhere near
Also, my favorite colors are gray, brown, teal, and tan
It's kind of an odd choice of colors
but I’m actually pretty fond of them
I like my coffee with cream and just a little sweet
But I’ll take a side of you any day as my personal treat
You probably taste like frosting; sugary sweet, which I typically don’t eat Though in this case I’d never let a good thing go to waste
I prefer spicy over sweet, but I’m sure you feel the heat when you think of thoughts about me
Well, about your soulmate i.e. me
But this is all unknown until we actually meet
So, until then, I will just keep building you in my dreams

Premium Member A Narrative

I have just read a lyric penned by Jenish Somadas titled "Sit Beside My Bed" which touched me very much.
As I have mentioned before in one of my poems, my Son David died eighteen months ago. I am being treated for anxiety and depression as his passing caused much unrest.
My life and that of my family changed forever. I became aware of the ugliness in life I had not noticed before.
I lost my trust in people. Socialising had lost its appeal.
I wondered why some humans could be so cold, selfish and uncaring.
My husband John and I go to the cemetery every Saturday to take David flowers.
It's a very peaceful place in a country lane facing the sea with cows grazing in surrounding fields.
Some of the tombstones are very old. There is a brick wall for the cremations.
As we walked into the cemetery we saw an elderly man sitting in a fold-up armchair, looking very comfortable and at peace with the world, having an in-depth conversation with his deceased wife whose grave was bright with flowers. It did not seem at all odd, it looked natural as though she was sitting there beside him sharing a cup of tea, oblivious of anything or anyone else.
I found this extremely emotional, it happened a few weeks ago.
The picture and feeling I had in my heart that afternoon stayed with me.
Jenish Somadas lyric brought this to mind again.
       Thank God for love
We can so often forget it's there.

Deadly Aneurysm

Your leg was infected and the infection spread.
You had an abdominal aneurysm and you're dead.
The infection spread to your stomach and you hid your illness from all of us.
You didn't want to go to a hospital because doctors were people who you didn't trust.

If we'd known how sick you were, you would've seen a doctor immediately because we would've made you go.
When we found out how sick you were, you were too ill to put up a fight, you were too ill to be able to say no.
You were taken to Fort Sanders Hospital in Knoxville but sadly, it was too late.
You suffered tremendously before you died, you experienced a sad and tragic fate.

I woke up in the hospital and found you lying motionless in your bed.
When you had a deadly aneurysm, you would have no future ahead.
When I learned that you hid your illness from us, it made me feel pretty bad.
I love you Mom, you were the best mother that a person could've had.

[Dedicated to Agnes Johnson (1948-2013) who died 7 years ago today on March 6, 2013.]

Nat the Vampire Bat

written for my dear daughter, Natalie

Nat, the vampire bat,
Was as cute as a bat could be-
She loved to go to school,
But hated her class on hematology.

"I think I'm in the wrong body,"
She often would exclaim-
"I cannot stand the sight of blood,
It makes me go insane."

"My legs get wobbly,
My wings shiver,
My sonar sensors stop working,
And my lips begin to quiver!"

Nat went home to mom and dad,
And asked, "What shall I do?"
They looked at each other and said,
"You'll have to stay home from school."

Nat was quite unhappy,
She would miss all of her friends,
She had to think of something else,
"My life's just going to end!"

She went into her cave room,
All she could do was pout-
Have to call my friends, she thought,
And pulled her cell phone out.

"I need help," she announced,
"Anyone got an idea in mind?"
She texted, tweeted, pleading her case,
A solution she was desperate to find!

Many answers came her way,
She filtered them one by one,
The best were from Professor Owl,
And Sly - principal Fox's son.

First option was just to adapt,
Stay home - take things in stride-
She pondered over this for awhile,
And finally sat down and cried!

Option two was more palatable,
Sly's idea was much, much better.
Nat thought she could digest this one,
But her parents had to write a letter!

The letter she carried to school that morn,
A happy bat was she-
Instead of studying blood, it read-
Let her take carpology!

The teachers were all amazed-
About what a choice had brought-
The little bat's grade soared to an "A,"
Her spirit no longer distraught!

Nat, the vampire bat,
Started a new tradition at school-
Classes were allowed to be changed,
It was no longer against the rules!

The school made headline news,
Performance index scores climbed high-
Policy changes must sometimes be made,
To keep things from going awry!

Premium Member Rehashing Old Conversations

You are a terrific slug, a sloth, unhurried, unmoved.
I cannot sit around here any longer, so I am gone.
I have dancing, skating, sledding, and living to do.
You want me to become a couch sitter, but it is not to be.
I have so much living to do, I cannot be pulled down into this mire.

If you want me to help you shake out cobwebs of apathy,
If you want me to inspire you to bungee jump or climb a mountain
Call me. I have left my number on this calling card.
But do not call me to gripe and moan, or rehash old conversations.

Do not pretend you are going to go to a concert or a play,
But then cancel too late for me to find anyone else.
I love you, but I am pulling my sandals out of this quicksand
So I can run toward my destiny and live an enthusiastic life.

New Year 2013 May Welcome Peace

New Year 2013 may welcome Peace

May the New Year welcome the peace and
Feed good thoughts in our minds
May it sow noble seeds in our land
To change this hell at least as Earth

Bloody violence may go out of this land and
Nasty hunger may go for it’s death
Stupid poverty may reach it’s corner
Lovely world may incarnate from this hell

May my dreams come to true on this dawn
May His mercy shower on our lives
May my pen write prosperity in epics
I want these My Lord bless me to attain

Lazy dogs may go to their pits
Greedy worms may go to their end
Corruptive gems may go to deep
Holy souls may bless to us

Premium Member Senior Teenager

I call myself a "senior teenager"
(put the two together and you get "seenager").
I have all that I ever wanted as a teenager
- lots of stuff, both minor and major -
I just got it all some fifty years later!
I don't have to go to school
or obey some teacher's rule.
I don't have to go to work
and hear some boss go berserk.
I get an allowance, I have my own pad,
I don't have to put up with a deadbeat dad.
I don't have a curfew, I have my own car;
no one will say squat if I smoke a cigar.
The folks I'm with are really not scared
of getting pregnant or even losing their hair.
The drugs we take are just medication
and definitely not for recreation.
I don't have acne, no sign of a zit.
Life is great, I must admit!

there is a corner
in another realm
where poets go to die

leaving their ashes
at the threshold
poets cross
as energy and light

they sit with pen in hand
in a parisien-style café
and recite their latest poem
for macarons and latte

they gather there and mingle
juggling rhymes and metaphors
they craft their poems lovingly
scatter them to the winds
so they may fall to us as snowflakes

March 16 Relationship to God Bible Meditations Based on 1Samuel 9-12

Key Verse –1Samuel 9:9 Beforetime in Israel, when a man went to enquire of God, thus he spake, Come, and let us go to the seer: for he that is now called a Prophet was beforetime called a Seer.

LORD GOD, YOU ARE MY INQUIRY SEER

Lord God, You are my inquiry Seer
Who finds me needy of Your grace
Thank You for bidding me to warm myself in Your sweet embrace
Here am I needing Your compassion in my struggles along life’s race
Indeed continuing in Your will where Your name I can freely praise.

Lord God, You are my inquiry Seer
Who hears me crying for forgiveness
Thank You for showing me Your Word’s faithfulness
Here am I praying that You keep me in Your holy blissfulness
Indeed communing with You by Your goodness.

Lord God, You are my inquiry Seer
Who sees me longing for Your anointing
Thank You for saving me out from adversities, terribly besetting
Here am I delighting in Your welcoming fellowship’s meeting
Indeed cleaving to You in every trial and testing.

Lord God, You are my inquiry Seer
Who helps me whenever I enquire for Your wisdom
Thank You for inspiring me with biblical accounts of martyrdom
Here am I submitting to You as You carry me upward to Your kingdom
Indeed choosing to enjoy Your granted divine freedom.

Lord God, You are my inquiry Seer
Who moves me toward my covenant-fulfillment
Thank You for satisfying me for my glad contentment
Here am I pleading for Your favour that upholds my faith-commitment
Indeed clinging unto You while obeying Your commandment.

Lord God, You are my inquiry Seer
Who hearkens to my voice of supplication
Thank You for fighting for me against evil destruction
Here am I walking along paths of righteousness with sincere devotion
Indeed calling always for Your strength in my ministry-participation.

Lord God, You are my inquiry Seer
Who delivers me for my safety
Thank You for teaching me Scriptures’ doctrine of truth-certainty
Here am I desiring always to behold Your holiness’ beauty
Indeed coming to Your presence of sovereign authority.
