'nite Mom...

Your loving persistence
mixed with blissful insistence
and reassuring assistance...
is always bestowed so sweetly.

Your charm is beguiling
giving me smooches while smiling
harken closely - and I’ll sing...
all of your praises quite neatly.

You are constantly there
amidst the angst and despair -
dulcet declarations repair...
the worrisome wounds in my head.

An endearing embrace
filled with affection and grace
gently put my fears in their place...
without one harsh word being said.

Mother,
I hear small unfortunates weep -
devoid of sweet lullabies at sleep
to cleanse the sting
in their heads and their chest.
Tasting the tears of their plight -
they clutch torn teddy bears at night
praying one day, they too, will be blessed.

Your unselfish concern
spoken aloud or taciturn
were the sweet lessons I’ve learned...
soft sonnets resound in my heart.

All the love you have shown
throughout the years as I’ve grown
has united my soul with your own...
never to be broken apart.

Your soothing warm trust
is always gentle and just
making it quite clear that one must...
"let your attributes shine like a gem.”

But at night, as I sleep
I hear unfortunates weep
pondering the gifts they would reap...
if I could show-and-tell share you
with them.

'nite, Mom…

The Smoke

In the dark
the smoke sees
with eyes divine
like an incense
a burnt offering
it rises with the wind
and the smoker marvels

He wakes, eats, sleeps
and longs to inhale
the sweet breath
a nectar bud
this sanity and mirth
inroad into sad
melancholy

He loves to see
the smoke twirl with the wind
serene in the sky
like a god climbing
coming
coming out
to proffer another life
another fire

Stop, stop, stop
he laughs
are they talking to him?
the advertisement talks too
and his little daughter
avoids him
everytime he is covered up
when will they appreciate
that his favourite brand
like a painkiller
is the secret escape
from the aches and discomfort
only he can explain

Now his wife has left
and the doctor says
his lung is darkening
his breath is stained
his blood burns black
lung cancer
or ulcer?
But can it be real
if his palate seek
a fresh taste of the stick?

And now his eyes
are sinking sockets
now the skin starts
to fall away
some acute disease?
What`s the use of worrying
the better for him
to dedicate his whole life
to cigarette smoke till there is
no more breath
no more life in his bones
no more sweet incense
to inhale

My Lord the end is near, gone within have I to thee…..
multitudes of bright, lemon drop, sweet tarts pave our way.
Choosing now to remain, linger, going deep with in the ocean free.

Forms incorporeal above me rise to celestial sea.
The earth bathes now in rarest form portrayed.
My Lord the end is near, gone within have I to thee…..

While Hosanna’s fade from still whole memory
with outstretching hand a mate for me waylaid.
Multitudes of bright, lemon drop, sweet hearts pave our way

Alpha and omega will we be, and from all sin have we been freed.
For we seek the harder path the joy delayed.
My Lord the end is near, gone within have I to thee…..

Yet, He abandons we, “NO He does NOT!” a different fate have we.
And, with golden kisses each soul drops as they pray.
Multitudes of bright, lemon drop, sweet hearts pave our way.

The larger scheme of dark and light replays with joyous glee.
Deep with our Lord, His Love He does display.
My Lord the end is near, gone within have I to thee…..
Multitudes of bright, lemon drop, sweet hearts pave my way.

Home, Sweet Home

Home, sweet home........

There is no place like home in this world
Home sweet home where I always live so happily
A light from the sky seems to bless us there
and God's love is spread all over there
How happy when you sit with loved ones
and to see their faces full of love smile
How nice to sit near our parents and great parents
and listen to their old stories that bring us lessons too
Our garden full of greenery and the flowers are bloomed to give us pleasure
All those birds on the trees singing gaily to give us a peace of mind
Our pets run freely in and out of the house
and keep us busy to watch their naughtiness
When I over look, the mountains in their great splendor
that blows with cool breeze to give us healthy life
Our neighbors are dear and so helpful without fear
An exile from home, bring nothing but sadness
Because home is sweet home.

Down in Alabam where big sweet taters grow
lives great aunt Cyndi diggin dirt with a hoe.
Up in the morn bout the crack o’ dawn
see for miles where she’s dug up the lawn.

Hard as nails with hair sweet- tater- red
she could set a table, make you feel fed.
Wave you down and ask you to stop by
have a piece o’ her sweet tater pie.

Smash sweet taters and hickory smoked pork
a chilled bottle o’ wine with a stuck cork.
Cornbread in the oven ready to take out
Slap your mama silly, lip smackin no doubt.

Dawg’s patiently waitin on the back stoop
for the cornbread mush and sweet tater soup.
With tongue a hangin and tail a waggin
shortly his tummy will be a draggin.

Sweet tater pie with whipped cream on top
you’ll eat so much you’ll think you’ll pop.
Sweet tater pie my sweet love from the south
more o’ sweet tater pie, well shut my mouth.
