I was on the right side of the Great Divide,
and shore side of the incoming tide
but the wrong side of you
We were on the dry side of that Tennessee pride
and you were drive side when we hit that RIDE (b)
which saved me from a DUI. (b)
I take life in stride, look for the bright side
with eyes open wide, savour life’s slow glide
but your leaving left me blue.
(a) Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere or RIDE is a sobriety testing program used by police in Ontario, Canada. The program began in 1977 as Reduce Impaired Driving in Etobicoke and the success of the program led to the expansion across the province of Ontario. Wikipedia
(b) Driving Under the Influence
SUSPENDED IN SURPRISE
wrapped in legs and arms,
sandwiched between two grandsons.
sheets in disarray would not impede
the octopus hold, attempt to halt
their impending flight home.
a little hand in mine, our feet planted
on pavement. i try to disengage,
say goodbye.
“where are you going?”
those little eyes suspended in surprise
as he finds out we have two different paths.
reluctantly his fingers uncurl.
his brother jumps up, holding me tight.
“when will you come to visit us?”
a heavy sag to the car as i divide my heart.
i nap. i dream. i feel his squeeze.
flight delayed til morning light. my son frowns
but his sons squeal with delight
for more happy hours with grandma.

The sound of Leather on hardwood
Classics, jerseys and sneakers on floor.
These instruments accompany the
Chorus of fans and haters
In unison they roar.
Deftly we move, we manouver
You can call it a dance
With a wish
A common goal,
A spheroid of gold,
This bomb explodes with a swish!
This dance we've created
Mastered, debated
We're pumped
We're inflated with pride
You've seen how we roll
Got that gift of control
And as Ballaz we stroll
This stride.
We divide and we conquer
We detect the undetected
The master strategy
We expect the unexpected
Deviously we play
No one tells us how we do
I'll have ya bodies movin'
By the time that I'm through
You may think this poem is tight
May think this poem is lame
But one thing you haven't listened to
Is the song of the GAME.
Everyone's heard the story
Of how the world began
How God created all in seven days
On the seventh day He took a restful stand
And God said "let there be light"
On day 1 God said "let the darkness
Divide from the light"
On the left darkness was the vast universe
The light was the promise of a bright future
And it took its place on the right
ON day 2 God divided the water
Seven times to make the seas
From it came the mightiest rivers
And the tiniest streams
On Day 3 God divided the valleys
From the peaks
Up grew the green grass and the
Yellow flowers (the beauty of nature
That everyone seeks)
On day 4 God divided the brightness
He made the sun, the moon and the stars
He sprinkled the stars against the night
so that to reach them
Never seemed very far
On day 5 God divided His praying hands
To cover the empty land
Fish swam the rivers
Beasts roamed the prairies
Birds flocked together in a strand
On day 6 God divided "lonely" from "life"
He scooped up the clay to make a man
And a rib from man's side made his wife
On day 7 God rested
(I'm sure He thought about all He'd done
and thought it would be the perfect place
to raise His only Son)
Peruse the literary discourse; illusion from reality divorce
Objective criticism with conscientious rigor your tour de force
Educate yourself on each antiquated style and archaic source
Train your enterprising eyes, every truism endorse and apt allegory reinforce
Recon the lexicon for cultural anomalies and idiosyncratic expressions
Your probity use to underscore trite confessions and trivial regressions
Peel away each banal artifice; to the arrogant that hauteur grant no concessions
Audit the amateur-shadow poets, showering disapproval on their indiscretions
Lacquer and emboss the verses that with creativity and innovation bridge the generational divide
Attentively nourish the nuances and imbibe the endearing witicisms that will abide
Careen through the light poems; cavort through each limerick; caress every soliloquy in stride
Enshrine the masterpieces with laudatory epilogues; let their inspiration your literary path forever guide
Sweet Talkers of the Devil
Reptiles in human suits are the true sweet talkers of the devil,
and are well known among the various societies in our world
as slick, sleek actors who fancy the breaking of common law
virtues by their actions in supporting ungodly acts of a real
form of reprehensible separatism that opposes all that is right
and true under God’s eyes in civilized human society.
These malefic actors are the perfect humanoid reptiles for
spreading their surreptitious message of greater autonomy
in the world as they seek to divide and conquer all people
in human societies with their notion and true intention of
setting back the real, hard-earned historical progress that
mankind has achieved over the centuries that have been
marked by war, strife, prejudice, tyranny, nonsense, and
utter debauchery.
What’s at stake you might ask? Think of the implications
of the negative actions proffered and foisted upon all
innocent people worldwide. Think about all the progress
mankind has achieved over the centuries while having to
confront and to defeat the uncanny forces of deception,
darkness, and true evil.
Beware of the Sweet Talkers of the Devil!

Meditation
Close your eyes and let your mind travel deep within,
in search of the gift _that has always been.
A gift that has been yours from the beginning of time.
Follow mindfully _your descent to the deep reaches of your mind,
A place where your frustrations, your anger, and burdens will be removed.
Shallow breaths will guide you on your journey,
to this place of peace, a place where your life’s energy will be reborn.
Shallow breaths will guide you in and across the great divide,
Do not be afraid to follow to the quiet hollow of your soul.
A place that is treasured, a place that is the center of your being.
Close your eyes and let your troubles go.

What a mighty God I serve!
Amazing in all His ways high and above human
Lowly thoughts and contrivances
I bow to you in humble adoration
You alone are my God
The Master of the universe
How can I begin to recount
All your amazing deeds in my life?
Forgive lord sins of my ingratitude
That trivialise your amazing love
Every day you divide
The Red Sea for me
To walk on dry ground to freedom
But I keep looking back to life in bondage
You sent your only begotten son
To deliver me at a price of great suffering
But I prefer to wallow in bondage
I go to bed and wake up the next morning
To glorify myself instead
Of you my creator
Today I come to you my God
In humble supplication and total
Surrender to your will and goodness
For you are my amazing God
Congratulations! You’re going to be a big brother!
This is a special day!
Your Mommy and Daddy just found out…
your baby sister’s on her way.
We know whoever she is…
whatever name your parents pick
she’ll be bringing along with her
your fist lessons in arithmetic.
With a beautiful face we’re sure you’ll soon come to adore…
she’ll teach you simple addition…how 3 + 1 makes 4.
She’ll teach you about subtraction…
you will make the perfect pair…
and you’ll learn how much you miss her…
those times when she’s not there.
She’ll teach you how to share
how to divide things into equal parts.
You’ll learn how sharing is a gift
that comes from somewhere in your heart.
You’ll wonder where all the love you’re feeling for her comes from..
If it was hiding deep inside?
And how, once she arrived, the love within your family…
so quickly multiplied.
All this and more she will teach you..
and one day it’ll be your turn…
to teach her these same lessons…
when she is old enough to learn.

The Big Lie
The big lie in American politics today
is that if you’re not supporting Big Government
then you are against the little man.
The corollary of course
is that Big Government works
and is to be trusted
as the source of truth, security and a nation’s well being.
The 20th Century proved that dream a lie.
The political spectrum is simple;
total government on one end,
zero government the other.
This is what defines the true Left and Right,
yet the majority of US haven’t a clue
what zero, let alone small, government even means
haven't a clue they in fact
are almost all left of center
often far left.
The big lie in America today
is that we are a nation divided by politics
when it is simpler than that;
we are a nation of both conservatives and liberals
divided by fear, divided by definitions and desires for liberty,
too many of US having chosen security of the group,
the faceless masses and anonymous civil servants
over our individual freedom and liberty long ago.
The divide is thus within us, a pulling at our own heart,
within our own cognitive dissonance.
We are a nation of little men
indoctrinated by politics
as old as tribal boundaries
to fear the other, to hide behind the Big Man
to celebrate his greatness - as the greatness of the State -
to extoll the beauty of his new transparent clothes
and in our weakness
join with tyranny
in solidarity with our brothers and sisters
to silence those who question the dream,
lynch those who dare to choose,
and forget those who somehow, against all odds,
find their own way.
