Bring On the Rejection Slips and Or Lost Wager

Bring on the rejection slips and/or lost wager

Though flush with good humor
pun one mock two yields negligible
true cash equivalent value won
dirt poor offspring privileged as prodigal son
pockets bursting with legal tender,
where just yesterday I had none.

All polite declinations
strung together would circle...
(fill in the blank)
matter of fact, I just got a slew of them
today June 9th, 2020, what a lucky man
me haint an idealist...,

but winning poetry (writing) contest
or purchasing lottery tickets...
yeah, nothing butta pipe dream
such improbable whimsical notion
linkedin and tantamount
with milkmaid and pail

Aesop pose fabulous incredulous solution
finally good riddance
hand to mouth existence
hello riches, perchance a dollop
and/or sizable windfall courtesy
drawn PowerBall and/or Mega Million ticket

whereby yours truly suddenly
cursed with chump change,
and/or abundant money
would experience "fifteen minutes of fame"
flush with friends and relatives
I (a misanthrope) never knew existed
(perhaps even marriage proposition,

no matter wedded bliss prevails)
interesting... how moderate
and/or substantial wealth
suddenly finds chock a block
acquisitions (regarding brand new automobile,
custom designed house,

travel opportunities galore
(maybe even vacation to Mars)
(despite coronavirus - COVID -19) prevalence,
nevertheless awareness viz immutability altering
pubescent stunted emotional, physical
and social development

profusely sweating hands, social anxiety
all the while knowing money
can't buy happiness,
yet once and for all at long last
free and clear of grinding poverty
cuz groveling along

the pockmarked highway
avails countless exit ramps
plethora of choices
how to be analogous to jolly Roger
piloting immense ship of state
(approximating size of Rhode Island)

equipped with the latest trappings
matter of fact replete
with every creature comfort
analogous to rich
self sufficient independent country
allowing, enabling, and providing
a warm welcome - think unfurled
Harris tweed Scottish welcome mat.

Meanwhile somewhere in Schwenksville,
Pennsylvania resident
(within apartment B44)...
tenant fritters precious time wishfully thinking
(luxuriant life within theoretical leisure class)
finding this nameless scrivener
invariably hoisting himself by his own petard.

Thank You President Trump

Leadership by President Trump
(And then some)
Put America at the forefront
In combating the Coronavirus
With decisive response and measures
To ensure the safety of the American people.

Though some feel as if guinea pigs
And question whether over reaction
It had to be done
To prevent the spread
Of the viral toxin.

Resuscitating the old
With infusion of new
To revive an antiquated system
In germ warfare infection.

America will come out the better
A global leader
In preparedness and first respondence
To combat future pandemics
Man-made or natural
With preemptive action.

Give credit
Where credit is due;
The calamity contained
And disaster thwarted.

Note:
The Coronavirus (Covid-19) is an infectious flu like disease. It spreads through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze, or when a person touches a surface or object that has the virus on it, and then they touch their eyes, nose, or mouth.
The outbreak began in Wuhan China, surfacing in a seafood and poultry market in late 2019. The first confirmed case in the United States was in the state of Washington, January 20, 2020, involving a 35-year-old man who had travelled to Wuhan, China and returned. The first recorded death in the U.S.A. was on February 29, 2020.
On January 31, 2020, President Trump declared a public health emergency and issued a travel ban barring entry into the U.S.A. of most foreign nationals who travelled to China within the past 14 days. Other measures included mass testing, social distancing, a stay home policy, shutdown of large crowd gatherings, restaurants and bars, etc. and large scale disinfecting.
Both bacterial and viral infections are caused by microbes. Bacteria are single-cell creatures that can reproduce on their own.
Viruses, on the other hand, are smaller than the smallest bacteria and have a protein coat and a core of genetic material (DNA or RNA). Unlike bacteria, viruses cannot survive without a host and reproduce by attaching themselves to other cells and are known as ‘parasitic.’ Viruses are packaged RNA or DNA who make copies of themselves by hijacking the machinery of cells to replicate themselves.
Most bacteria are harmless, but those that cause infections are called ‘pathogenic bacteria.’ Viruses in most cases are harmful.

Clown Politics

How am I doing

Well thanking you very much indeed

For being kind enough to ask

Because I am doing just fine

In fact I can't tell a lie i am actually
way far better than that bordering on
great

Because my business is downright
booming at the minute

To the point I have had to stop taking
bookings as I am now fully booked
up till Christmas

And the reason why you may well ask
well is due and down to this

You see what I do for and earn my living
as my proffesion and business is

I am a fully qualified certified card carrying
Clown

So much some of the very best in the
business which you may or may
not have heard of

Like for example Sideshow Bob and
Ronald McDonald who actually based
a lot of their own act and performance
on material they stole off me

But they have all but since gone to
ground so now I am all but the last
standing remaining Clown

Due to the dwindling amount of work
after COVID -19 rules etiquette and
social distancing ensued

The best excuse money can buy
when all else other's used have failed
thus far since the classic good old days
of my dog eat my homework

And left them without means to
earn a steady income to support
them in order to pay their bill's and
lifestyle they had become accustomed to

But hey at least this story has a happy
ending and they didn't want and go
without for very long

Because blessed with the particular
skillet they garnered and possessed

They simply just went joined signed
up and pledged allegiance to and
became a fully fledged member of the
Clown Union

Because as everyone full well knows
Clown's are the star's and reason why
people choose go to the Circus in the
1st place

And politics if nothing else is in all
but name the greatest Circus on earth

Only difference being although littered
with clown's these one's have or feel
no need

To slap and adorn their face in
makeup or wear a funny customized
suit

Because they are and their act and
material on which it is based upon is
in itself funnier than hell

But whereas Circus clown's wear big
shoe's for comical affect

These here clown's wear big boot's
in order so they can fill them up to
brim of their stetson hat

After the pockets of their shinny designer
bespoken suits look like they have
$100 handkerchief hanging out all
of them

To Runswick Bay

On a sunny day in late September
we were on our way to Runswick Bay,
on a walk that we gladly remember,
meeting people on the Cleveland Way.

Assorted folk with the same idea
taking in distant views over the sea,
a gentle breeze, the far horizon clear,
nearby hips and haws bright on bush and tree.

Whoever you meet, just what do you say?
Should it be ”Hi!” or rather “Hello!”?
Is it “Good morning” or maybe “Good day?”
If they greet me first I go with the flow.

Whatever is said may offer a clue,
tell you something about the other,
whether there is further chat to pursue
or just some remarks about the weather.

Having arrived we sat by the beach
eating our sandwiches watched by some dogs
and seagulls, waiting to swoop or to reach
for tasty morsels, whatever drops.

After a paddle to refresh my feet,
there were four and a half miles to return
to Sandsend for our walk to complete.
First there were steps to climb by the burn,

passing more people too breathless to greet;
grateful to pause we let them pass by
with a nod or wave – but wished for a seat!
There at the top a gate was held wide

by a couple with smiles to wave us through.
We paused as I stretched my cramp to ease
also to remove a stone from my shoe;
then onward we trod refreshed by the breeze.

Off the cliff face using the updraught
fulmars glided scanning the sea below.
Retracing our steps, features we'd passed
informed us how far we still had to go.

High on his combine, late harvest to reap
the farmer raised his hand as we stopped,
paused to pick blackberries more sharp than sweet.
Speckled wood butterflies near to us dropped.

At last we came to more steps to descend,
holding the rail as these tested our knees.
Pausing again with views of Sandsend
and spray from breakers whipped up by the breeze.

Back at the car there was salt on the screen.
Time to examine my blistered feet
and to doze awhile, pondering the cuisine
of Whitby and just what we might eat:

Scampi and whitebait with too many chips,
cans of ginger beer to ease it all down,
observed by gulls we looked at the ships
that brought our supper to this port of renown.

*          *          *
We count our blessings that we were able
to escape to the coast for refreshment
before Covid restrictions on travel
could prevent a day of enjoyment.

A Plandemic they are causing, to tear us apart!
A constant reminder, of their evil restart!

Repeating over and over, COVID 19,
Lying to us, with their Fake News Theme!

Internment and Fema camps to get rid
of us all! Look at the writing, it's on the wall!

Scaring all human beings. To get us all, to
take their Vaccine!

Mask wearing and social distancing are suppose
to stop the spread. Cases are going up, don't
believe what they have said!

Programming us for the "Dark, Dark, winter"
Joe said. Then infecting us with their Corona
Test!

You can't trust the politicians, they do as
they are told! They are all traitors, just so
you know!

Could you ever imagine schools would be closed?
When the recovery rate is 99.7, still they
impose.

Their fake Science doesn't add up, someone please
tell them to shut the H-LL up!

They are shutting down Businesses that's the plan.
Causing unemployment, and Worldwide depression,
through out the land!

They will say our cash carries the virus! A cashless
society causing a crisis!

They repeat to convince us of A New Normal. You and I
know it's bulls--t and Abnormal!

World domination, total control! Affecting everyone, the
young and the old!

Men and women have to endure, The false narrative of
finding a cure!

A Virtual future of working from home. No interaction,
just isolation, and working alone!

Support one another in these Treacherous times. Pray,
get close to God, don't lose your mind.

Go for a peaceful walk, meditate for a while. Spend time
with loved ones, enjoy their warm smiles.

We can think positive on our outlook on life. Don't let
the enemy, steal your God given rights.

Peace be with you, all of my friends. Trust in our Lord,
until the very end...

Because Pandemic is Holocaust

Because the mind still stays
The memory of the holocaust,
And the face reflects the twinge that still lurks
In the hollow of our frail hearts;
My mournful pen shall bleed
In a forever flow of pensive mood.

We are survivors
Who suffered the flame of covid.
We are survivors
Who sampled the taste of death.
We who saw the gate of hell and live
To tell the tale that hell is cosy,
Compared to the wicked world;
We are now casualties of war.

Hell is a cooling place
The earth is not.
And no one devil inhabits a calming hell.
They all abide with us here in the flaming hell;
For the earth is hell,
The hell is earth.

The earth is hell where the devil-incarnates dwell.
The hell is place where the hostile hunger
Shoots fiery darts at poor souls.
The covid slaughtered its thousand,
We heard it.
Hunger slaughtered its ten thousands,
We saw it.
The devil is innocent,
Man is not.

Many visited the heaven but never return;
It is safe to die.
Many visited the street but never return;
They were shot in the head.
But thousands remained indoor,
There they welcomed their death and followed him.
The death loved them more than their rich neighbours.

Tell me, why my sorrowing pen won’t bleed
When death is kind and man is cruel?
Tell me, why my sorrowing pen won’t bleed,
When the devils hoarded palliatives;
And poor souls suffer?

Those invented pandemic did no harm;
Those feign pandemic to peculate did.
Those declared lockdown meant well;
To feed man with the wind,
And slaughter souls in hunger.
Lekki toll-gate episode is enough
To succor our grieving souls.

Now to those buried their dead
In the heart of their memories
For the lack of further space in the burial sites;
In the sundry lands and climes
Where pandemic havocked like hell;

To you whose mirth has been ceased
By the cacophony of the holocaust;
To you whose land the inferno lingers still;

May you be brave to fight to victory.
May new dawn cure your night of mourning.
May you forget the season of cold;
By the warmful rays of sunshine.
May your heart be filled
With overwhelming songs of joy.

For until this war is over;
And the mind lets go
Of the memory of the holocaust,
And the face reflects the ebullient heart of the optimist;
My mournful pen shall continue to bleed,
In a forever flow of pensive mood.

We were (Leong, Peter, Anna and I) eating at a popular Italian eatery (outdoors) and the check arrived - I swooped across the table and grabbed the check from the waiter. Peter whispers, “You can’t pay for everything the entire weekend.” “Why not?” I say, “It makes me happy.” “There’s no reason to,” he says. “I need a REASON??” I snort, which always makes Leong laugh. “Have you MET me?” I say, shaking my head dubiously. “I’ve met you,” he pronounces, “and you’re a NUT. Thank you,” he says, indicating the check exasperatedly.

Peter’s transfinancial: a rich man trapped in a poor man’s body. He has taste but he exists on a grant and a meager stipend. We’re just friends but I’m holding a bag and he’s not. Besides, he needs a new laptop - badly - and shouldn’t be squandering his grips on me.

Greek-life is on the rise. Maybe it's because those groups offer planned social events or because, with COVID winding down (covid smovid) there’s more going on. There’s a pressure here - to be your most authentic self - to be top academically, socially - to have your calendar filled out. There’s a frantic nature to it. I’m being lowkey rushed for a fraternity (for next year) but I love my roommate situation and I think I’d druther stick with this set I love.

Which begs the question about social time. Should it be methodical, relentless, super planned out? Super planned interactions can seem transactional and not easy going and natural. College social life is so different from high school. College life is so much more charged in every way. The range of people you meet, the broader perspectives, the available options for activities.

I find myself in a search for balance. Private time vs social time. Before covid, you’d go to school and then you’d come home to your room, where you could just hang out. It was a self-care place.

At university, a dorm room is less of a “home” where you can be alone and spend that healing time. You never know who's going to be in your living room and what they’re up to. I get claustrophobic when my door is closed so I rely a lot on noise-canceling technology.

A dorm room can seem like those covid lockdown days - there’s little or no separation between academic and private space. I’m just unpacking some thoughts. *shrug*

Covid-19

The World was in a turmoil,
the situation dire.
Corona Virus broke out in China
and spread the World like wildfire!

Covid-19, as it was called,
had the upper hand for sure!
Our country was faced with a virus
for which there was no cure!

Medical experts around the World
were working twenty-four hours a day
to come up with a medication
that would put this virus away!

We were at a virtual standstill
as we tried to get ahead
exercising self restraints
to slow down the covid-19 spread!

The president took forceful action
to try and turn the tide.
The pressure he was under
was tearing him up inside!

There’s never been a global crisis
with this kind of chaos before!
The number of countries affected
was approximately one-hundred-eighty-four!

It soon became a pandemic!
So reaction had to be quick!
Thousands of people were dying,
thousands more were getting sick!

Social distancing became essential
as well as washing hands and wearing masks!
Many courageous people risked their health
performing dangerous medical tasks!

Quarantine and lockdowns
became the order of the day!
However, for those that must go out,
stay at least six feet away!

The economy was at a standstill!
Socialization, a thing of the past.
Most businesses have closed their doors!
How long will this all last?

The situation is really dire
the likes of which, we’ve never seen!
Everyone is wondering,
what does all this mean?

To get our country back to normal,
politicians must unite
and with commitment and dedication
agree to do what’s right!

They all need to face the fact
politics is not the cure!
Name calling, hating, and blaming don’t help,
which goes without saying for sure!

It’s gonna take a concentrated effort
by each and every one.
Using common sense and logic
they need to do what must be done!

So let’s all hope and pray,
that they can get right to it.
Decide what action must be done
and then agree to do it!

That’s what it’s gonna take
which may be quite a chore!
Getting them all to cooperate
will be next to impossible for sure!

We’re hoping for a miracle
to get this all undone!
The country’s in such turmoil
back to normal, is priority number one!

So let’s all cross our fingers
and say a prayer and see
if we can get our country back
to the way it used to be!

Premium Member Panic At the Station

Sophomore year’s clocked-up my free time. Last summer I made some core promises (to my mom) to go harder on the pre-med track. Perfect grades are ok, I’m told, but they’re underdog, alone. So, this year, my “spare” time is split between hospital volunteering and a (nominally) paid research project. The goal of all this hustle is to pad my resume up, as proffer, for a 2025 med school slot. I’ve never felt so observed, judged and weekend-less, but playas gotta play.

Last week, Peter (let’s call him my BF) was invited to some random alumni event. He wasn’t excited about it, but he thought, “Ooo, free meal.” Actors and doctoral students are all about free food. Then, after he signed onto it, they told him the group was going, by train to Washington DC, on an overnight trip (all expenses paid) where they’d visit the White House and meet the President.

They took the train through New York and down to DC arriving late at night and then they had to meet in the lobby, the following morning, at 7am to get COVID tested for the White House. He said the White House experience, and the meet-and-greet seemed surreal. While he didn’t get to meet Joe, he shook Jill Biden’s hand, and in a parting, fog-headed moment, suggested she “have a good one.” (Hopefully, she did.)

As an extra, on the way back, at union station in DC, they heard gunshots and there were a few tense moments where they saw people in the station (outside the train) running about in panic. Eventually, security pronounced everything safe. A man WAS shot in the foot but that passes for a calm night in DC. All-in-all the event and train travel made for an exhausting trip for poor Peter.

Bizz, BIZZ-BIZZ-BIZZ At first, the alarm sound seemed unreal and unimportant. I opened my eyes and through my three, open dorm windows, I could see stars still flickering busily, like light off of so much broken glass. “What?” I mumbled.
“I have to go,” Peter said drowsily, as he kissed my forehead, “it’s getting early.”
It seemed I blinked, and he was gone. After he left, I woke up several times. The silence seemed heavy, almost solid and it easily pressed me back into sleep.
