Jealousy of Circumstance

I may have, and you have not
But that choice was never mine.
While covet holds for what I’m not
With what I haven’t, I’ll be fine.

I was born, as who I am
Never born to grow as king
To be born as man, or as ma’am
Neither context I can bring

Raised within a circumstance
A condition unlike yours
No want towards another’s chance
No envy for their flaws.

Those cards you face I’ve never dealt
But I’d gladly have some in my fate
The course in which our tea leaves spelt
I couldn’t write upon your slate.

Congratulations for your life
Don’t condemn me on my own
I’d want your luck, but know there’s strife.
Only some are born with thrones.

Premium Member Congratulations -- Daddy --

It was late when I finally rollover into a Dream
She was Young, She was Pure: She was Beautiful
I danced up behind her; I feel Her long flowing, Auburn Hair
She turns around and says, “Are You He? ”Are You DADDY”
“I am Joanne Naomi Johnson”. “ I see Lenore in YOUR Face”
“Your Eyes, more Hazel; than Green” ”Come on, let’s go Home”
“ Mommy’s been expecting You for an Eternity. “You should Know!”
“Mommy, Mommy; He’s here, Daddy is Home; show him Your Poem“
My Heart skipped a beat as She Opens Heaven’s Door : My LENORE
                                 “ M Y L E N O R E “

Our caps flew like confetti.
Thank god I customized mine.
I'll keep it as a memento of all-nighters,
friendships formed in the academic trenches,
dismissive professors and group-project-tortures.

This isn’t another ‘drunk girl’ holiday, despite obvious similarities.
Our parents, sisters, brothers, and grandmothers are here.

We came in doe-eyed, holding overpriced planners,
and enough provisions for two year Mars missions.
We hoped to discover friends, decent Wi-Fi signals
and perhaps our adult selves.

Now we're holding diplomas, those future-proofing talismans.
Mine’s in molecular biophysics and biochemistry.
Which is wry, because when I was in high school,
my sister accused me of not knowing how to boil water.

I've been asked "What’s next?" a thousand times In the last month.
I have plans—but I was dying to shrug and say, “that’s tomorrow’s problem,” like I’ve spent major duckets, degree wise, but remain a ditzy blonde.
The standard graduate answer, I’ve heard, is "I dunno."
(though honestly, it’s a great answer).

Congratulations, all of you graduating overachievers out there—everywhere.
Go forth, be fabulous and find that next big dream.
Can you believe we actually did this?
Argh! I gotta go, someone wants another picture.

Premium Member Happy Birthday Ava

Our youngest grandchild turns 16 today…I know you must be shook…
the fact that she’s 16 years old…means I‘m much older than I look!

Her birthday elicited in me a memory…older minds do this…as a rule…
It was back when she fractured her arm one day in elementary school.

Attached to this memory is another memory of when I was young…it was a day in early spring…when I found on the ground before me…a baby bird…with a broken wing.

I looked around but saw no nest...and with no time to wonder why
I picked her up, took her home then nursed her till she could fly.

There seems to be an innate quality in most of us...the impulse to be humane
by providing assistance to the weak...as we try to relieve their pain.

But this is not uniquely human...in the animal kingdom it is a running theme.
proving our world, when we stop to look, is not as ruthless as it seems.

It’s amazing where survival of the fittest is the rallying cry we sing
there are still some creatures who take the time to help those with broken wings.

Perhaps it’s one way to show the rest of us (I don’t think this too bizarre)
that all life in this world is precious no matter who or what you are.

That we must remember through the grace of God we are naturally selected
that no matter how you choose to slice it...we are, somehow, all connected.

That we should be treating every living thing with dignity and grace
That for every broken wing we fix...we make the world a better place.

So on your 16th birthday, Ava…
as once again we sing Happy Birthday
and many congratulations to you are spoken…
just a reminder we will be here if you need us…
any time your wing is broken.

War For Freedom

Of all war brings
One is a disguised peace
And boldness to conquer fear
Of the darkest nights
And the silent mornings
To rain praises in morale at will
For news to reach the far distant neighboring countries
That each don't dream of attack
But I wonder if colonial masters ever heard of this

They came as eagles flying without wings
To make nests in hens village as police
Whose duty is to gear security but not to domineer
And to put all darkness plans to lights
By giving enough measures as warnings
Or get the reculcitrant lords drilled
Feeding back enough pleasantries
That will never dream to travel back
Even when all connections are at ease

War becomes admirable to lives
The only means to have the hen released
From seeming hungry eagles
That is never and shall not at will to let go
Of its captives that meant much to starvation
Even not for a lofty prank
Than hold on to it in all its might
Monitoring all possible escape routes
By neglecting no winks at break of the atmosphere

Our leaders' meetings become very active
As sacrifices nonstop increased
To grease the effort of freedom fighters like paralegals
To all ink on beautiful flow
And shelf bullets as eloquent reservation
Readily available for the blank
Roaring to fire out in plight
Congratulations to be sing on flutes
For the best wishes finally appear

To see this village, search for its wrinkles
Look to the bubbies, who first brought forth life
to the zaydes, who polish their words of Torah ‘til they twinkle

Bubby’s hands may be calloused from
                  Pesach cleaning, polishing every chalice
Zayde’s body bent from work by day
and relentlessly studying the nights away

But watch their wrinkles break out
as a thousand voices joyously shout
                Mazeltov!! Congratulations all around
on their 50th grandchild – count 'em –
Welcome him to bubby and zayde’s little town…

Champion Again

??CHAMPION AGAIN!!!

Common oath with the Gold,
She's two decades old,
Browny hair, tough skin dark toned,
Tobi's horse-wheel pull a two wheeled cart,
Breaks another record and grease our heart.

Some placed a bet before it starts.
Good wager wins if played smart
Cos Tobi's stare told me of a driving force within,
An undiminished thrust to always win
And with an urge not just to take part,
She ran like Sonic right from the start.

Before this tournament no one gave her the nod.
Reasonable humans adapt themselves to the world:
The unreasonable ones persists
in trying to adapt the world to themselves.
Tobi Amusan adapts the world of Commonwealth to herself.
Fills with quids, laurels & accolades her account & shelf.
This Nigerian Speed Queen achieved the unreasonable
And boost our ranking on the medal table.

Champion again, as she keeps bursting our bubbles,
Won Gold again in the Women's 100m Hurdles
With a record 12.30secs in the Birmingham 2022.
Now she has conquered the world & claim laurels too!
Congratulations ???? ???????????

Shovels' scraping shows work well done
Keep it up! Congratulations!!!
Service to God is number one
Yielding fruits of commendations.

With the Lord's strength as girding might
Shovels' scraping shows work well done
Radiating life-building's bright light
Exemplified by God's great Son.

Designed perfection had begun
Masterpiece upon faith-venture
Shovels' scraping shows work well done
Thru divine nature and nurture.

Model of utmost excellence
Paragon's best for everyone
Labourers' diligent silence
Shovels' scraping shows work well done*.

A boy and a girl just arrived in this world
To parents they both will share
Now from the house within will echo the cry of twins
As an answer to prayers from everywhere

After passing the test of a month of bed-rest
To ensure that they developed complete
For Mom and for Dad, no more rest to be had
As in tandem twins seldom do sleep

But living this way is a small price to pay
For the privilege of parenting twins
For only a special few have the bond of these two
Sharing the womb in which life did begin

Congratulations to my daughter and the man that they'll call father
For doubling up on our number of grandkids
We are so very proud that our voices shout out loud
With the love we feel for this thing you did

Oh little one so brand new, The hurt and pain that will follow you. As you grow the kids will tease, As you all play in the school yard breeze. Older and older you will get, As you must learn not to fret. Time will come and time will go, Being adopted will not let you know. Some of you are considered Black Sheep, So some of you are meant to weep.
