Rah! Rah! Rah! Sis Boom Bah!
Everyone stand up and cheer
A more upbeat poem you'll never find
Pay attention and listen here!

Funny how moods go up and down
Like a proverbial yo-yo
Maintaining a balance is a full time job
Life's like a bucking bronco

Survival of the fittest is what it's about
Rule's been around forever
Keep on top, don't let down your guard
Be true to every endeavour

Eventually you'll accomplish all your goals
Maybe sooner or maybe later
Depends on so many unknown factors
Don't just sit there as a spectator

Make it happen keep on top of your game
Don't waiver, flinch, or pause
Winners always keep their eye on the prize
Forever stay true to your cause

Rah! Rah! Rah! Sis Boom Bah!
Stay focused, me buckeroos
Happy or crabby, giggly or cantankerous
Can't blame nobody else but you!

I suppose you think it's a gooseberry patch to which I allude.
Well, in a sense it is, but this has to do with scrumptious food!
'Tis a diner named The Gooseberry Patch, down the road a spell.
It ain't a fancy place, but I declare in country cookin' they do excel!

The genial cook is a laid-back, home-grown Colorado chap,
Wearin' a Bronco T-shirt and a Rockies baseball cap.
The waitress leans on the counter a-starin' dreamily into space,
As country and western from station KKCS wafts about the place!

The green chili is zesty hot and will set yer ears aglow!
Yer face'll light up with hues akin to a paintin' by van Gogh!
The pork and beef barbeque is so spicy it'll sting yer eye.
All this can be topped off with a tangy slice of gooseberry pie!

It ain't owned by some far-away impersonal organization.
For generations it's been a family-owned operation.
They don't boast a five-star ratin' - for that they don't aspire,
Nor nation-wide Gooseberry Patch franchises will they require!

Yer plate is overflowin' and the price is certainly right.
Classier places skimp on food and the cost is just a fright!
I've dined at five-star establishments but they'll never match,
The good ol' country fare served at the rustic Gooseberry patch!

cigarette falling, snow-
ing in-
side the bronco,
buck-

ing ash two-digit scissors
reach-
ing like tongs

passenger’s eyes pop

driver
retrieves, revels, masters

the smoke; a joke
to the occupant

occupational hazard:
timing of
timber

window ajar; a trail
of chimney smoke

a cautionary tale:
don’t make my insides jiggle
jingle bells are merrily ringing
can’t help myself

previously, at the airport
man flies
off his luggage seat
goes splat in the turkey line
his phone’s fly-
ing

and i wonder why
i’m the only one
giggling

i leave the state in newfallen snow,
splash-
down on the tarmac
in Georgia

Here They Come
Reflecting on When They Won
It Is the Raiders Who Are Now Living Here
To Allow Las Vegas To Let Out A Devious Cheer

Jon Gruden Known as Chucky
Will Hope to Roll Those TD Sevens to Be Lucky
Then There Is Derek Carr In the Driver’s Seat
Looking to Take Down Their Football Guest in The Desert Heat

Las Vegas Gave A Piece of Land
To A Well-Known Brand
That May Import the Oakland Fan
Wanting to Keep That Summer Suntan

They Wear Their Silver and Black
Ready to Defend the Gridiron Attack
From LA, KC and Denver, They Will Arrive
Trying to Come Up with That Weekend Lie

Yeah, We Know How to Beat Vegas, They Will Say
Until Check Out Time When the Raiderette Working Registration Requests for The Pay
At Least Eight Times the Visitor Will Get Room Service
Before Getting to The Stadium Where They Will Be Nervous

Through Thick and Thin
Remember What the Hotel Says Wynn Encore Wynn
With All This California Stuff Buried in The Past
Raiders Will Not Be in Last

They Will Ride the Bronco at Gilleys
Get Charged Inside Wet and Willies
And When It Comes to The Chiefs
There Will Be No Relief

For All This to Work
We Must Take Our Fork
From That Imaginary Devil
And Rise to The Raider Level

Feuding mental nemesis appear

Feuding mental nemesis appear...

anytime after the bewitching hour
re: stroke of midnight whence this
sudden loss of mental, physical &
spiritual stamina takes a kamikaze
nose dive think crash test dummy.

Bright eyed and bushy tailed
after arising from a deep sleep
where the locomotive
hashtagged and seamlessly engineered
roaring, snorting, and tearing
to go down the lines,
(or actually an artificially
intelligent hunk of steel
a smart train
powered to glide
above the tracks
(called a maglev train,
which short for magnetic levitation
to glide preprogrammed
and zip inches above the tracks)
analogous to a powered iron horse
think a horse with wings
most famously called Pegasus,
a divine winged stallion
in Greek mythology
born from the blood
of the Gorgon Medusa,
he famously got ridden
by the hero Bellerophon
and later serves Zeus
by carrying his thunderbolts.
Analogous to yakety-yak or yackety-yak
the soundcloud issues "whickity-whack"
punctuates the equilibrium
with a syncopated,
yet barely audible rhythmic thwack
as railroad cars
at light speed
whoosh across train track plank
that connects and supports the rails
(called a railroad tie in North America)
or a railway sleeper
(in the UK, Australia, and Canada)
a bang for the bucking bronco doth pack
a surge of electrical boost to ensure
reminding one of the nursery rhyme
starting out as this old man,
he plays (fill in the blank
with the number
of your choice) knick knack
paddy whack give your dog a bone
and then synchronized
with the word syllabification
hinting phonetically
at what the ear
hears as be-yo any
(b-o-n-e)
which above stated
structures of silence
soundlessly bedeviled,
disrupted, and fostered
within the mindscape as ENIAC
(Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer)
functioned by routing
high-speed electrical pulses
through thousands of vacuum tubes
and switches to perform calculations
vigilantly sustained -
now imagine whereat little
spongebob square pants
hustling hither and yon, to and fro
within the noggin
to allow, enable and provide
an uninterrupted flow of processes
instead of using moving mechanical gears,
said Goliath used electronic logic
to count pulses and perform
up to 5,000 additions per seconds -
revolutionizing wartime computing
which scenario caused me
to experience a splitting headache.

City Water

Risen
From the springtime flooding along South MLK
A sh#t-skinned slimy pipe
Pops half way up from a grimy hole
Like a gopher molded from iron ore

Neck and head periscoping left then right
Tiny arms bolted to its furry chest of rust
Surveying the silence of this industrial prairie
And the graves pocked from Foundry hammers

Until a school bell bangs
And a kaleidoscope gang of cell phone kids
Clamber from broken windows and dim doorways
To play in this forbidden park
Riding and rocking the new springer like a rodeo bronco

Screwing
The old boss back to its subterranean foundation
Another generation
Re-connecting the muddy wells to our silver faucets.

MATURING

Yesterday, I plunged into a whisper.
The fiery red marquee that blasted my existence disappeared,
Like a B-film star at the Oscars,
And only a faint shadow obscuring its source remained.

Today, I began to climb a mud puddle,
Sweating brown slime and panting organic putridness
Like a Ferrari submerged in flood waters
Needing to be recognized as a treasure hidden by an unnatural disaster.

Tomorrow, I will rest on a bucking bronco,
Riding the turbulence with ease and poise
Like a skater glides across smooth, glassy ice
Experienced and unfazed by the bumps that once threatened to unseat me.

When Patty was in the manic phase, she'd ignore dangers:
She'd hold parties in her motel room for hordes of strangers.
One of them she married after knowing him half a day -
Did it occur that something could go wrong by acting that way?

Who needs the wisdom of George Schwab, or boring investment schemes?
She met two dudes in a parking lot, trusted their get-rich dreams.
What could be wrong with giving strangers chances?
Predictably things went wrong when they managed her finances.

[chorus]
The question arises, how do we know?
Which feeling is right - the high or the low?
Do thoughts determine what we feel?
Or do feelings determine what we take as real?

Carrie was bipolar too, wrote a book on crazy acts
Her daily moods were divorced from daily facts
She used illegal drugs to tame the unruly ocean -
Yet she took a wild ride on a bronco of emotion

It was found for depressives the windshield is more clear
Rewards motivate them less; risks spark the proper fear.
But gazing at the downside leads to helpless despair
When reality gazes back, it has an unblinking stare.

Halsey had a million ideas and couldn’t get them done:
But when she was manic, she had the most fun
She says it gave her all she has; she made her best art
Her album named "Manic" rose to two on the chart.

Kanye, in his manic state, paranoia gripped his heart,
He feared the eyes of hidden spies, his world set apart.
This was knowledge he got from what he would feel
Between feeling and knowing, who can trust what is real?

[chorus]
The question arises, how do we know?
Which feeling is right - the high or the low?
Should we withdraw, should we take the fling?
Or flatten out the waves of the mood swing?

[outro]
Does what you feel guide your reason
Is trusting emotions akin to treason?
Can you disentangle thought and feeling
Sink below the floor, or rise above the ceiling?
Oh, the enigmatic dance of life we tread,
Which feeling is right— the elation or the dread?
