Safety In Beliefs

At times I relent to the reflexes
The automatic knowledge of the peripheral nerves
Deftly guiding away from pain
Innately coded protection,
Gifted to all
That we don’t allow the conscious to override
Our cognition
What our atoms knows best
Every fiber of flesh protects the soul or should
From the ravages of love

A smart man once said, “Love will tear us apart”
Only fools listen and did not unhear.
Another man, though many scoffed at his unorthodox pulpit, once said:
“Fear is greater than love, remember that.”
I did not heed.

Which leads me to my reflexes delicately picking up a fork and looking at your photographic image through its tines.

A befitting admonition for your deeds. But a profession on my part that suggests I know your prison.
I do not.
The shinning silver and tinkling tines as it strikes the floor chimes and ferries my mind back to its own endless inventory, and for a split second I think: And what of the thing in each of us that drives us to madness.

palatable midst yellow eggs' breakfast delight.

Savouring orange creamy bisque with joyous glow
optimizes gold hues of nutritious flow
and dessert of blue berry cheese cake, smiting woe
to vanquish gray areas toward a prosperous “go!”

Slurping brown beef stew of white onion-mushroom bits
refreshes day’s revival with rainbow-filled glitz
while soul serenely meditates thanksgiving hits
for praises even beyond contentment-limits.

Sizzling tangerine Tom Yum's Asian cuisine brand
sumptuous supper of marvelous festive grand
greatly upholds warm spirit around kindness’ stand
affirming pink of health around loving friendship band.

Vibrant fellowship marked by sweet well-being’s crest
while sipping soup amidst sharing and caring blest
radiates hues, tints and shades of partnership test
praising the Lord* Who does nourish with nurture's zest.

*Ephesians 6:4“And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”

LORD GOD, YOU ARE MY IGNORANCE SUBDUER

Lord God, You are my ignorance Subduer through Your commandment
Thank You for anointing me with Your Word empowerment
So that I can learn along my ministry-involvement
With compassion for prayer-led achievement.

Lord God, You are my ignorance Subduer through Your wisdom’s nurturing
Thank You for teaching me the essence of sacrifices’ peace-offering
So that I can yield myself to You as a cleansed vessel with Your covering
With Your holiness, not guilty of grumbling and murmuring.

Lord God, You are my ignorance Subduer through Your caring admonition
Thank You letting me gain from Your knowledge of guided application
So that I can submit to You my hard-headedness and proud disposition
With Your correction along timely counsel and exhortation.

Lord God, You are my ignorance Subduer through Your sovereign authority
Thank You for hiding me from miseries caused by uncertainty
So that I can exercise prudence, neglecting never-entrusted duty
With Your assurance to forgive my confessed iniquity.

Lord God, You are my ignorance Subduer through Your consistent reminders
Thank You for touching me to see Your presence against vision-blinders
So that I can make amends for my lack of faith among stalwart defenders
With Your discernment forbidding me to walk with law-offenders.

Lord God, You are my ignorance Subduer through Your truth-braced fellowship
Thank You for directing me from falsity of deceitful leadership
So that I can depart against flattering friendship
With Your instruction for jubilant worship.

Lord God, You are my ignorance Subduer through Your vibrant righteousness
Thank You for carrying me forth to Your altar of willingness
So that I can abide in Your faithful graciousness
With Your refreshing comfort and loving kindness.

Premium Member Clean Your Plate

From the very moment my Mom taught me how to use a spoon,
From her mouth was uttered that old familiar tune:
"The kids in Asia are starving, now Bobby, clean your plate!"
Her admonition was final and left no tolerance for debate!

I tried to foist upon the hapless dog a helping of bony fish.
Even he would gag trying to swallow that vapid dish!
I'd toy with them and try to hide the tasteless peas.
I could barely abide them, even in bites of twos and threes!

Even tho' Mom concealed them with cheese, I had my doubts,
About a malodorous little veggie called Brussels sprouts!
I'd surreptitiously sneak them on to the plate of little brother,
Thereby, avoiding the reproof to clean my plate by my Mother!

There was the delicate matter of dealing with broccoli and beets,
Okra, spinach, turnips, hominy and other such disgusting eats.
In my feckless youth I thought such fare rather untoward,
But soon learned that to survive, you ate what was on the board!

When side-stepping along the chow line in the military service,
They often slopped mysterious stuff on my tray, making me nervous.
When I joined the service, I hoped never again to hear Mom's old cliche,
But, even those mean old sergeants screamed, "Private! Clean your tray!"

The False Panacea

Selling the sizzle
and not the steak
Milking a lie
universities take

In debt-ridden wastelands
they prey on our youth
With worthless diplomas
— that mortgage untruth

*****

Whims That Betray

He sobs false remission
to skirt admonition
as his Guardian Angel
smiles ...

“What’s with the tears
after so many years
and choices rejecting
denial

“You did what you pleased
without Heaven appeased
and lay prostrate
feigning regret

“This game isn’t played
at the whims of betrayal
And called you must pay
— for what tears can’t correct”

*****

Love Centered Circle

The things that I’ll miss
are the things I looked past
Those small hidden moments
in memory that last

Giving up little
to chase what had burned
Distracted I forayed
the magic unlearned

Now distant a loner
I look for those tracks
I made through greed’s sand
to find my way back

Because there in the center
holding all that we give
A love centered circle
— where joyousness lives

Inside cell of 16

By 11, I thought I'd have it down by 15,
But by 16 and a sour sunday morn,
And daisy chains foiled into the moor,
And hands that tighten but ne'er lighten,
Hands that strangle, stitch, and liven.
Of ties that wrangle, withhold, hang o'er the handle,
And toe-tipp'd kisses of kids with scissors,
Incisions of misses by razors and flesh fissions.
And slaps of fathers that formed tender swine,
borne a brat, t'tender the bar o'wine,
And quaint affections that form'd none conscience. Greyed,
spurned eyes grown affray, blotting boils and sores, and
Loaned love t'be lost along the way.
And all ails of child, trebled the gall of blackened bile, tendrils of
Denial t'caress the carcass, and withdraw.
E'er unsupervised in sullied superstition, bled to th'core of frailing admonition,
And hitched a hind of loops and bunnies,
Ne'er t'tie and stead, but t'tumble into the rabbit.

O curs'd the cocoon in biblical serpentine,
O'riddles and remedies, and stewards in cemeteries,
Led to call and sit and stew,
Waiting, waiting, and awaiting
Sunday grace anew.

And sixteen drawls in th'stench of wine,
And sixteen sings the sickly hymm and diagnostic chime,
Of the flatline.
And sixteen awaits the mellow Monday morn.
And sixteen waits 'till there is none left t'mourn.

Premium Member Temptation

The pastor's sermon was quite clear on the matter of temptation.
He held our attention - no one went to sleep in that congregation!
As usual, it was an inspiring and masterful presentation,
Leaving some folks (and me) in a state of nervous trepidation!

He talked of The Master's temptations and how them He overcame,
Telling Satan to buzz off, and stop playing his evil game.
I took this admonition to heart, vowing to do much better,
To toe the line and obey the Ten Comandments to the letter!

Alas, I faced temptation ere I even left the church.
My roving eye got me in trouble; good intentions I did besmirch.
The faithful deacons had laid on a most delectable spread,
Of scrumptious cake, cookies and tasty banana bread!

I salivated as I pondered, "Should I or should I not?"
I sensed the devil was tempting me in this nefarious plot.
Whispering, "Go ahead, have a hunk of that devil's food cake;
I'm sure the Lord and the preacher will overlook one mistake!"

I must admit, to that crafty seducer I did succumb,
Even snatching a few cookies, eating every crumb!
I later mused on this, wondering, "What would Jesus have done?"
I suspect He'd say, "Would you share some goodies with me, My son?"
