Fig Leaf
Lessons on fig leaves make me reflective Learning them from biblical perspective Serving as meaningful life’s directive Taught by God Who’s sovereignly assertive. Fig leaves’ clothing, though nature-propped fashion Adam and Eve sewed to hide transgression* Covering their disobedient action Earned them the Lord’s grievous admonition. Fig leaves show hypocrisy-disclosure Admitted as human nature’s pressure… While yielding to sin-denial leisure Conscience seeks justification-pleasure. Fig leaves**, sans fruits in Christ’s time were worthless On withered tree, considered as useless Deserving rebuke for trust that’s faithless Needing revival from being hopeless. With such fig leaves’ Scripture-brightened insights My soul asks Almighty for pardon plight Confessing iniquities midst guilt-blight Thankful for grace to start anew --- aright. *Genesis 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. **Matthew 21:19 And when he (Jesus Christ) saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away. Dramatic Monologue in Rhyme form April 10, 2020 3rd place, "This or That, Vol 11: Fig Leaf Theme" Poetry Writing Contest Sponsored by Edward Ibeh; judged on 4/22/2022.
