Of my effort is my intention
In any positive direction
That is where I'm headed
Realize not everything can ever be comprehended
At times there may be disaster and wreckage
And my own life could be ended
Those very seconds
So be it, even if there winds up being no such thing as heaven
According to the legend
You will be continually physically and mentally tested
And it holds true from the beginning to the present
With a change of perspective
And method
It was splendid
And so unexpected
The moon full not a crescent
Shining brighter than anything fluorescent
In the past, future and present
Remember to eat all your meals, beginning with breakfast
Because life is precious
Across any premise
You'll understand that everyone has their own personal assessment
Far too many nights of sleep that were restless
The options and deeds were endless
And I continually reflected
While having questions
The weight and value of certain things was tremendous

The book describes a battle that included African American soldiers in the Union army who, in spite of the controversy, were very instrumental in the success of building a tunnel and igniting a massive explosion that proved strategic in a major victory against the Confederate army.
Our lives are often presented with adversities and challenges that will shake the foundations on which we were built. However, if we remain focused, enriching winds of courage will blow our way in many forms. I experienced such enrichment when I read the novel, The Battle of The Crater, by Newt Gingrich and William R. Forstchen. I was able to draw from this novel three important lessons that strengthened and reinforced my entire belief system about the civil war in America.
Lesson #1. Facts and truths can be delayed, denied and revised, contrived, or even covered up and ignored. However, truth can blaze its own trail through a stormy wilderness of lies, more lies, and distortions. Truth, in essence, is Divine and even if tosed to the bottom of the sea, it will not die but resurface.
Lesson#2. The powers that be may often abuse their authority, allowing personal vendettas to ruin their command. But such powers cannot stand on their own crumbling feet and therefore will implode. Without regard for recognition, nor for what others do, I am to always put my best foot forward when the opportunity arises.
Lesson#3. In the final analysis, it is God and not men who get to decide what to put in and what to leave out. God, not men, has the final word on 'rights and wrongs', and He determines who is on the right side of history. After all, God Himself defines and records not just the facts but determines the true meaning of history. After all, History is really HIS STORY.

God blesses our anniversary that aims for Christ to be exalted
Thus, we must be spiritually prompted…
Surely divinely-led with prayers granted
While yielded to Him, being biblically directed.
God blesses* our anniversary that assures His victory!
Thus, we trust Him to save souls from hell’s fury…
Surely helping the needy unload sin-burdens they carry
While declaring with compassion the Gospel story.
God blesses our anniversary that tests our commitment!
Thus, we submit to Him with clear vision’s enlightenment...
Surely seeking His presence, overcoming discouragement
While abounding in His work with whole-hearted ministry involvement.
God blesses our anniversary that promises His gracious fullness!
Thus, we humble before Him with earnest meekness...
Surely abiding in His will of perfection’s greatness
While laboring in His life-building business.
God blesses our anniversary that’s rewarding!
Thus, we ask Him that our toiling and giving He will keep guiding…
Surely refraining us from complaining and backsliding
While upon His truth we are steadfastly standing.
God blesses our anniversary that requires sacrifices!
Thus, we follow His leading as the right process...
Surely learning from His Word for righteous experiences
While warned against worldliness and destructive losses.
God blesses our anniversary that brings satisfaction!
Thus, we serve Him with our pure heart and honest intention…
Surely motivated by Christ’s love, not by personal ambition
While pleasing Him with our faith midst joyous dedication.

As a young man I was not very smart,
for brain cells they were never my game,
but I did what I could for without any doubt
through hard work I had ample to gain.
The cleverer folk seemed to learn things with ease
while I had to struggle indeed.
My memory it seemed so pathetic at times
that I had to replant every seed.
But working things out just came normal to me
and this is what carried me through.
Instead of just knowing the things I'd been told
I'd learn what the reason was too!
My total approach was directed by this
for to seek was the way I would gain.
It just didn't sink in what they meant me to know,
though I found it myself with some pain.
So the things I know now are unique to me
bought with searching, acceptance and time.
I know that my views are the bricks of my mind,
foundations built up in my prime.
But the things that I feel are the sounds in my soul,
they're the voices that all play their part.
No knowledge or learning can wash them away
for these things are entrenched in my heart.
A bond strong indeed to all mankind’s seed
where my being is mingled with soul,
the place I must go when my God makes it so
for it’s there, that I have my prime role.
Sometimes to share in everyone's care
but at times just to offer my hand
or to help someone there to release the despair
that they found as they entered this land.
Sometimes just a word is still needed here
to convince folk that death's not the end.
A few personal thoughts shared only by them
to prove they’ve still bonds with their friends.
At times evil people who never were nice
will cause people harm though the veil
and if not deterred from their mischievous ways
leave hate and despair in their trail.
It’s then that my strength is assisted by God
in fighting his cause with my mind,
for closing the pathways to evil‘s intent
takes an army of goodness combined.
No master's degree that I never would gain
could help bridge the path to the soul,
but the voices inside that you feel with your heart
Is the way that lead straight to the 'whole'.
So be not afraid of those who would scoff
then denounce you and chuckle with mirth,
let them proclaim that it's all in your mind,
for it is…. and it's been there since birth.

You need to know
To each their own
Fast to treat you like cattle
Tempt you with a poisonous caramel dipped apple
Quick to pick a battle
Thinking I've been fragile
On me they would tattle
Because they think it'll rattle
And cause me to unravel
But that will
Just push me further on in my travels
I'm not surprised, it never baffled
Or left me bedazzled
Since you caused such a hassle
Choke you out with your own tassels
Or just make you eat my dust and gravel
They love to cackle
And prattle
Funny because they're nothing special, like a king or queen in a castle
The way in which it was done was sloppy or surgical
As I move around horizontal and vertical
They always try to make it personal
This world can be unmerciful
There's more to it than you and your convertible
Wow
In each and every town
Is snakes and clowns
So quick to put others down
And to turn the whole conversation around
I'm going to hold my ground
Your B.S. and ignorance will not be allowed
Slavery is not the end of atrocities
Suffered by minority communities
The every day systematic sway
Of bricks piled against you like
A wall of pain
So many bricks
The millions murdered for simply being
Who they were born to be black brown red
But of these I speak of what I know firsthand
The professional personal political assassination
of the collective black character is so deep
It is astonishing ingrained and denied to be a thing
For instance because there was a black president
In this racist country people say there you have equality
Nope
A system built on the back of blacks
That promotes hate of anything black
Saving a few teachers pets
Does not save the souls of those
Still being oppressed stressed and put to death
Schools are the battleground as well
We are not even teaching the truth freely
Jim Crow is alive and well look it up
The systems of government are used and abused
To keep people from getting the American Dream
The poor displaced and disgraced
Taxed to the max
While the rich enjoy perks less tax relax
When I walk in a store I am sized up and categorized
followed by security I may get service
But only if I look affluent enough and
Sometimes not even then
Depending on the store and area
When my brother walks down the street
Do you clutch your purse
No really
If he doesn’t style himself just so
Is he perceived as less than
When he goes to the bank for a loan
How often will he be denied
Or unfairly penalized
It’s deeper than slavery
We are still here suffering despite being
Called American we are treated
Not even as well as foreigners
Who seek asylum
Where is that for the brown red black people
It’s not being able to fairly compete for jobs
When corporate snobs want degrees and experience
But how do you get one before the other
When you don’t qualify for loans
Or go in so much debt for college
That the dream is deferred
Or you get the job but the pay
Is poor because you can’t afford the degree
Never mind you are doing the job perfectly
So you must get multiple jobs to eat
I’m so sick of saying that marginalized
Systematic racism in America is more than what happened then it is what is happening today now
And by the looks of it what the future holds
As the systems of old have not been replaced!
Be naked with me, while you leave the thoughts of your soul behind on my pillows and sheets
And since your departing with the personal go ahead and leave the past behind like your shadow post meridian
Because last week keeps you weak a kind of blindness for the aspiring and meek
Taking off your clothes one by one, leave your skin vulnerable with me
Start by kicking off your shoes that keep secret where your mind runs when the darkness comes
Then slide off your shirt because it’s hiding your hearts true desires
Next move to your pants as they only hide where your legs have been
Let my teeth remove your under things concealing the bare, private, and concrete vault of what your eyes wished to see in place of reality
Last remove your socks that cloud the free minds from seeing the hearts that tasted your gold
Be uncovered and unguarded with me like arrows shot through rose petals on the bed
Be powerless and let me take over to give you strength
Be open from the roots to the floor as we move from wall to wall to the conclusion Jericho
Be nude because I want to see it all, I love it all because it brought me to you
Be naked with me so, I plus you can be we leading to a new transparency
p.s. now as you get dressed there will always be some of me underneath, our new heart beat…
I met one ant in my house.
I read about a second ant.
The second ant is another story.
If forced to give the first ant a name,.
I would most gladly call him Terry.
There was no interaction with the
Other ant that I only read about, but
I learned a valuable life-lesson from him.
However, the no name ant is another story.
My personal experience was with Terry.
Terry, heading west on my bathroom
Floor, suddenly turned right to go north.
Just to interact with him, I tried to turn him
Back north. He did not like my interference.
I offered him certain treats, but he said, "No".
So I left him alone.
I then proceeded to do other nessisary
chores and soon forgot about Terry.
I later remembered him and returned to see if he could be found. To my utter amazement and
Surprise, When I looked under the sink cabinet,
I witnessed an ant being reeled in by a spider.
I assumed it was Terry. Lesson learned?

She was 30 years my senior but forbade me to call her, mother.
She was beloved by her family, her church, and her many friends,
and to me, she was always encouraging and uplifting in every way.
Some people tend to turn inward with age and grow bitter over time.
Yet others like my 90-plus friend grow sweeter and ever outwardly.
My wife and I were often invited to her home for desert and coffee. When made aware of my great love for nuts, she always had plenty of them on a table just for me. She loved going out to dinner and spending time with us. She believed in reaching out to others, and was a real lover of people and of her God. In her presence I was made to feel important and even special.
There are those who are indeed pearls of great price, valued coins lost in a field, and we often speak of certain people as being a national treasure. In my life time I have been tremendously blessed to rub shoulders with such people. My eyes are getting teary as I write about our dear friend who was certainly a personal treasure to me.
As she approached the century mark, her daughter lovingly decided to move her to live with her family. Considering her age, I was understanding of the move but sad that we would no longer enjoy her company and draw from the love of her heart. Although I missed the last few years of her life, I am deeply grateful for having known a rare and great soul during those years we shared.

Pervasive personal questions people ask,
shredding to shards what truly is me.
The pieces are of no use to them though,
the effort seems at times
to stem from veiled spite,
incisive curiosity or even subtle affront.
I forcefully flinch to introspect,
ask myself why I’m under their prying lens,
and don’t answer.
Caustic comments people often make
on the manner I behave,
that seems strange to them,
or on the way I do or don’t do things,
that seldom matches theirs.
I don’t try to explain,
these are innate traits I am born with,
discarding or changing which for their sake,
or walk on their footsteps would be
to dispense with a vital part of my persona,
to exist as a facsimile entity of no individuality.
So, I don’t react.
If at times some people are good to me,
I can’t express articulately enough
the feeling of hearty appreciation,
for that action may appear a manifestation overdone,
deceptively laden with pretentious display of gratitude,
which in essence screens the implicit expectation
that the good done is what is deserved and due.
When this trait is criticized as intended insensitivity,
a part of me, inherently obliged though,
is tortured to plaintive and painful despondency.
I can’t endure the undeserving denigration,
for it aims to maim part of my bruised psyche,
I can’t rejuvenate, for it does no longer respond
for me to demonstrate.
People brand me quirky.
Surely, I’m so
with my strong sense of self-identity.
