Your image,
a malfunctioning promise
idles in my handbag.
I took that picture
when I took your word
never expecting both were
two dimensional.
I can’t breathe life into your promises
any more than I can infuse it
into your photograph
but at least I have something tangible
in your picture.
The promise remains a myth.

The sign said not to loiter
But I’ve never understood
The assumption that a loiterer
Is up to some no good.
So I say to all the fritterers
Or lollygagging crowd –
You should stand your ground and dally
Just as if you are allowed.
Show the world that you mean business;
You’re not plotting something crazy.
It’s American as apple pie
To slack off and be lazy.

The loiterer in us all...
empty magnets alone...
attraction delves mystery...
eyes cautiously reveal...
Third eye bares all...
If one keeps company...
silent flashes admirers bolt...
turn the needy scream...
Rustic or remorseful warnings...
Humid rush...
Nostalgia into play...
silent flashes admirers bolt...
turn the needy scream...
Reflection, favours essence...
tolerant glance reveals...
silent flashes admirers bolt...
turn the needy scream...
Wisdom, passion, ride shotgun...
as silent flashes admirers bolt...
turn the needy scream...
