Premium MemberThe Grateful List

In gratitude may we flourish…

I’m grateful for:

My coloring books and crayons
The memories of a happy child
The voice of my sweet mother
So comforting, so soft and mild

The friends who shared the summer
               For sandy beaches so serene
And those who shared the winter
              And every season in-between

For love and laughter always
My health and will to have survived
For furry friends, companions
From whom such pleasure is derived

The seasons of a lifetime
For everything that’s come to me
For having known some kindness
And every good thing that I see

At my lowest point
there is still so much to be grateful for

Premium MemberWhat Makes Friendship

VIDEO: The Old Friends Do by ABBA (LYRICS) YouTube AUDIO: Listening Version What Makes Friendship What makes distance so touchable, What makes arm wrestling physical, What makes fun a thing for two, What makes tears of missing you, What makes secrets last, insiders, What makes smiles, to be tear-wipers, What makes fighting, ugh, forgivable, What makes forgiving unbearable, What makes oops somewhat culpable, What makes cleanup punishable, What makes laughs, the one-legged wins, What makes others say, "Not twins?", What makes saying goodbye really hard, What makes memories my field of regard. 2022 August 05 *1st Place* FRIENDSHIP ~~Beata Agustin: Judged 2022 August 08

Premium MemberMy Five New Year's Resolutions

As 2021 fades in the rear view mirror
I again open Pandora's Box of promises to myself:
To continue losing weight
To gain confidence and learn to love myself
To aspire to shoot ever higher in my career
To ascend past the depths of my fear and find friends
And to pick up the pieces of my broken heart and mend it
So onward to 2022 and all the good fortune it may bring!

Premium MemberNew Year's Promises

I shake the dust off previous years resolutions

to update for 2022:

1. I will be the best writer of poems I can be.

2. I will create beauty with my photography.

3. I will gather friends like flowers in a bouquet.

4. I will work on the law of attraction everyday.

5. I will do my part to reduce climate change.

well, that's it ...

Premium MemberI Want To Tell You

I am writing this to you
You, whose friends and family have written off
You, who have you yourself, written off
I want to tell you
You were not born this way
With hair trigger rage
With crippling anxiety
Or just not feeling normal in any way
Written off by society
Or a DSM casualty
It was that fall down the stairs when you were three
Or at age six, falling out of a tree
You were not born this way
You have a traumatic brain injury

Premium MemberI Am

Born dependent.
Wide-eyed and hungry.
Looking and learning.
So much colour.
Bigger bed.
Sounds ringing.
Talking and smiling.
Homes and pets.
Kitchen smells.
School bells.
Bigger clothes.
Friends rotate.
Library books.
Bigger shoes.
New building.
Glasses on.
Late nights.
Certificate.
Bigger world.
Crowded transport.
Watch the clock.
Need more sleep.
Bigger pressures.
Reunion time.
See old friends.
Comparing lives.
Bigger roles.
Kids and Grandkids.
Born dependent.
Wide-eyed and hungry.
Looking and learning...

Premium MemberIt Is Such a Happy Day

Joyously she plans her day
Her oven is preheating.
She has all of her ingredients out.
Her to-do-list is miles long
But she is glad, humming as she works.
She has six places to be, and a luncheon with friends.
A wonderful day! She can hear the birds singing.
The dog and cat are snuggled on the couch.
It is such a happy day!

One phone call changes everything.
She turns off the oven
Unplugs the iron.
Unplugs her cell phone.
Throws her credit card in her purse.
Grabs her headset.
Changes her clothes.
Puts five dollars in her pocket
And heads for the hospital.

Premium MemberMy Bucket 'The Short List'

The day I turned the big 5 0
My friends all said to me
You got to make a Bucket List
Of things to do and see

So, I sat there on my cozy couch
With pen and pad in hand
And wrote a hundred things I'm sure
No one would understand

The first thing on the list I wrote
Was simply getting High
I'd score some Marijuana
and give that weed a try

Now It's been ten years later
You would think I had some fun
And probably went through half my list
But, I'm stuck on number One

So it's clear---this is a work of fiction---lol

Premium MemberChloe, Precocious Princess

She's only six
but so alive
moving constantly
talking incessantly
singing with Three Doors Down
playing dress-up
posing for the camera
doing her "model" walk
performing ballet

swimming, swimming
making friends
teasing her cats
chasing butterflies
drawing, coloring
writing her name
talking to strangers
asking questions
innocent and expectant

watch her play -
             guard her well!
