A Light Along the Way

"Sometimes the smallest act of kindness becomes the brightest light along our darkest road."

He is one in a million--
a hand that reached out
when the world was silent,
and when kindness was rare.

Reg(Rej), though we have never met,
I feel your goodness
in the way it touched my path.
When I had nowhere to go,
you were there...
proof that the Lord sends hearts
to lift the fallen when hope runs thin!

For twenty-one nights, I walked alone
smiling at strangers…
never letting them see the weight I carried.

My knees ached,
my feet swollen,
my body trembling on the edge of collapse.
And still I told myself:
no one could run this race for me.

So I pressed forward
clutching courage in the dark,
holding on to the feeble flame of hope
that someone, somewhere
would understand without judgment.

Then came you...
A quiet proof that mercy endures,
that kindness still weaves its way through the dark
and even when the night is heaviest,
daylight will arrive.

When I finally reach my destination..
I will turn my face to the sun
and keep this treasure close:
that somewhere along the way home,
I found you...
and kept you in my heart.

(“The Heart of It #2”, 2007, original oil)

When A Light Is Extinguished
(for Charlie)

Today a great light was extinguished
A great soul lost to his family, his friends
His nation, and humanity as a whole.
Shades of MLK Jr.’s assassination,
A shadow of hate swallowing up the light,
Spread out across the nation
Like the Sun eclipsed at noon.
In the dark we cry
Hearts broken open
By the senseless taking of a life brighter than most,
Reminding us what kindness and brightness
And generosity of spirit is truly like,
Bright and true
And in its essence deathless eternal.
Rest in peace young man,
Go in peace great soul.

There’s a quietness in the shadows.
A lonely place where sadness grows.
A place in time where my mind goes.
Thoughts and memories are my foes.

But I have learned to not resist,
for when I do, they just persist.
I used to fight; I’d clinch my fist.
Shadow boxing, I always missed.

Meditating on dark and light,
it came to me I shouldn’t fight.
Brightest light or dark as the night,
their contrast gives us better sight.

The reason for simplicity,
to deal with life’s complexity.

Premium MemberA Lightening Storm that Sings

A sharp bang it sang,

Which struck down with a loud pang!

Jagged across the sky like a laser beam,

What a streak to see underneath;
the black skies of old!

It lighted the heavens,

And extinguished the flames.

Forever in Jahanam!

Forever in Jahannah!

That is what we are told in legends foretold.

Signs of light seep in the dark abyss!

Showering down hail!

Keeping a tight grip of the rope of the Merciful Lord!

We shall not fail beneath’s God’s hidden veil!

Fate Tends Hang On a Knife-Edge

All because of that single decision
To grasp that grate and breathe in the ethereal skies above
Rather than
To let go of that grate and suffocate in the foul sewage below

Because of what he chose
This is what he is

Independent
Not
Incarcerated

Whole
Not
Wounded

Confident
Not
Confused

Slipping off of the rusted edge, on which side will he land?

Brilliant
Not
Bleak

Courageous
Not
Cowardly

Relieved
Not
Remorseful

This is what he is
Because of what he chose

To grasp that grate and breathe in the ethereal skies above
Rather than
To let go of that grate and suffocate in the foul sewage below
All because of that single decision

Now, what if he wasn’t resolved in his decision?
Simply read the poem in reverse.

The light

Yet again another light appears in the dead of night , Waking me from sleep with a majestic sigh

Yet a sigh I’m unable to grasp, gazing into the light, dwelling while it lasts

But I know the beam will soon die out, the light will be dimmed amidst the clouds

I will tilt my head and stare as the light fades away, wondering why such a sigh can never stay

Once again the night returns before my eyes, no longer consumed by the lies of the light

The deception that captivated my brain, must have been a delusion I made in vain

I’ll remind myself the simple truth, there was no light, there is simply darkness in the dead of night

And yet I know tonight, I’ll stay awake eager to see the sigh, waiting for my eyes to illuminated by the beauty of the light

I’ll wait for what is nothing but an illusion, I’ll stare into the darkness, trees and pollution.

Waiting for a so called “light” to return once again to conquer the night.

Premium MemberThe Power of Hope

There’s a spark in our hearts that
urges us to try,
Through storms and challenges, it
accompanies us on the ride,
Infusing our senses that there’ll be
light at dawn,
This flame never dies; it’s the flame
of Hope.

Shining bright through dark clouds
is Hope,
A force of strength in times of
despair, is Hope,
When we embrace it, we feel relief, comfort and peace,
It’s an endless whisper of joy that
will never cease.

It blooms like a flower in our hearts,
And a balm for the wounds in our
souls,
So look deep into the depths of
both heart and soul for the Spirit
of Hope,
With its endless scope, anything is
possible.

Hold firmly unto it, and never let it
go,
As it will lead you safely through
the uncertainties of the unknown.

My Love In Candlelight

My Love In Candlelight (c) by Russ Dodson 1963, 1985, 2025

The burning candle flickers low
and in the dancing, darting flame
I see your face and now I know
what longing is, I call your name.

I know you hear but you won't heed
my plaintive cry and all the while
my heart cries out it's greatest need,
you do not speak, you only smile.

This isn't real, it can't be true.
You're with him in some other place!
Yet still I feel your presence near,
and still I see your lovely face.

Again I say you can't be here!
I knock the candle to the floor,
but still within the fluttering flame
I see your face, just as before.

Then the candle, flickers, dying,
as it sheds a waxen tear,
can it be that you are crying,
as if afraid the end is near?

The candle now gives up the fight,
the feeble flame begins to wane
and then goes out, and I was right,
for in the dark you're gone again.

Premium MemberDoctors Aren’t Perfect

It’s hard to believe but true:
doctors do make mistakes;
but on the whole they’re few.
And yet it demonstrates
what we should all expect,
that doctors aren’t perfect.
As for your surgeon’s removal
of what he mistook as a double
tumor growing in the area
of your groin, your falsetto
whining sounds like a soprano
practicing a new aria.

Premium MemberGod is love

love is a flame that has no name
being God Himself our soul’s aim
Who dwells in all forms as a spark
bliss magnetism too hard to tame

the truth stated simple and stark
love and light is our true hallmark
mirrored within as God’s heartbeat
presence that banishes the dark

love bereft soul stares at defeat
till surrendering at God’s feet
whence by grace bliss is enabled
whereupon we then feel complete

with lust rage and fear disabled
no agenda in heart tabled
having blurred boundaries with God
our aura cannot be labelled

arise hermit, give love soul’s nod
that thus in time with our heart thawed
we do not attain but become
God’s love and light that has all awed

The Reptilians

My name was called three times in the dark,
Echoes bending through the marrow of a tunnel.
Three old men stood before me—
Half-human, half-serpent—
A living triangle carved from shadows.

“From today you will be Cross,” they whispered,
“Bridge between foolishness and wisdom.”
The tunnel lights collapsed into silence.
Their eyes—golden, white, unblinking—
Poured fire into my soul.

They placed in my hand a single card: The Fool.
“Trust this path,” they breathed,
“For madness is the crown of kings.”

Then came Shira—
Tall, blazing, a flame in the shape of woman.
“I rule fame and sex,” she declared,
Her gaze burning holes through destiny.
“I will walk with you to the end.”

In the blink of a serpent’s eye—
We stood inside Clarence House,
Where walls bleed secrets of power.
The Reptilians circled close,
Voices rising like velvet daggers:

“You are now one of us.
You will heal, you will kill.
You will feed upon light and darkness alike.
Without you—
Stars cannot shine.”

The wheel of yin and yang spun silently.
And somewhere in the hush between shadows—
I felt both the crown
and the curse
of becoming.

When can we meet?

When can I see your face, your cheek,
your eyes, your lips, and your smile?

I wish I could see and read your gaze
Yours, only yours. I don’t know others

Other eyes. Just yours. I am imagine
I am visualizing your incredible light

Your glittering soul from your eyes
From my suffering fantasy. Hmm

Just fantasy. About you. The life
Life. Life. Only life. Not the lives

Hmm. Say sorry to yourself. Say
Tell. To them, the fate. By yours

About. Yes. I couldn’t be a choice
Yours. I am so sorry. Never yours.

Needed to be. your choice
The dark light. Am I yours?

Can we meet? Never.
But yes. In Hell

I will wait for you soon
With a black carriage

You have no other choice
Said Lord Light, Satan

Loved you
A heart

I ironically found paradise in sitting in a park
With a man who oft prefers sitting in his room so dark.
For us all of the artificial lights are just too stark.

JEALOUS

Jealous is my God, who wants me in submission, only giving our love and attention to his plan.
Jealous is my God, who told us of the punishment to us and our descendants.
Jealous is my God, that leads me through this life, with signs from above that light my path.
Jealous is my God, that has a plan, that makes me pray to see the plan clear.
Jealous is my God, that wants no other God before him, he told us that he is number one.
Jealous is my God, of his people, who wants us to have no one before him.
Jealous is my God, that told us with his prophets, that anything that leads us astray is from the opposer, the one that wants to separate us from life, and make us stay forever in the dark.
Jealous is my God, that made us from his image, that wants us to love and be kind to one another.
Jealous is my God, that sent his son, to lead us to forever life, by making a path for us home.
Jealous is my God, that loves us so much, that he created us to be his family for life.
Lifting prayers to God, for love and life and beyond.

Premium MemberSilent Circus

Segmented arms and legs are seen
wielding a broken machine.
A swinging lamp of kerosene
lights up a silent movie screen.
In the dark Circus Oblique,
presided o'er by the freak,
each butterfly is unique -
but none of them can speak.
Is it not a little odd,
ev'ry page his bug-eyes trod,
were a kind of lightning rod
for the sad boy who played God.
