Laura Ingalls Wilder
Her writing was milder.
She lived in the backwoods
Where they made canned goods.
Laura wrote her children’s series
Little houses were full of theories
Her name became famed
She was just what she claimed
I’m sure she knew many other dearies
I read most every Little house book
It was long before there was a nook
I longed to go back to that kind of living
Where there seemed to be so much giving

To Laura Ingalls Wilder
Your stories were simple
Heart-warming and merry
You told us of events that occurred on the prairie
Your Pa was the strong one
Your sisters were kind
Although one was fated
To become fully blind
Your Ma was an icon for everything pure
And there wasn’t anything her love couldn’t cure
You told us of hardships
And downfalls and pain
But no one in your household
Would ever complain
The blizzards and fires
The destruction of wheat
The Indians, locals and other you’d meet
And look at the legacy that you left us with
Your books, they inspired us
The stores, we’ll miss
So thanks for contributing good to the world
Your treasures forever will surely be told

"Our hearts grow tender with childhood memories and love of kindred, and we are better throughout the year for having, in spirit, become a child again at Christmastime." - Laura Ingalls Wilder
The Christmas spirit can be heard.
Heard in sounds like choirs singing,
Singing carols and heard in bells,
Bells gaily ring-a-linging.
Ring-a-linging bells and seeing
Seeing lights brightly gleaming,
Gleaming snowfall and small children,
Children with faces beaming!
Beaming, yes, and there is smelling.
Smelling pine cones and roasting -
Roasting chestnuts; drinking cider
Cider for Yuletide toasting.
Toasting Christmas, also tasting!
Tasting all the flavoring
The flavoring of sweets and meats -
Meats at feasts for savoring.
Savoring, the spirit is felt
Felt by loving and by letting-
Letting senses wake to Christmas
Christmas spirit try getting!

I hate Harriet Oleson because she was a *****.
Somebody should've had that awful woman lynched.
She makes me so mad that the veins in my forehead start to throb.
That woman was greedy, mean and she was the world's biggest snob.
She had a spoiled brat for a daughter who was named Nellie.
But when Laura Ingalls threw hay on her, she became smelly.
If I had been MR. Oleson, I would've gotten a divorce.
His wife was so ugly, she had the face of a horse.
If I could've gotten my hands on MRS. Oleson, I would've gave her a good shake.
Every time she looked in mirrors, they were bound to break.
The Ingalls were very good people and they were also very nice.
But I wish MRS. Oleson would've had to shave her head because of lice.

endless snow
is this minnesota?
makes me think of Laura Ingalls Wilders stories
of the hard winters
so I get out my books and lose myself again
in my childhood
a good winter dream
