Do you see many snacks on the counter?
Perhaps the homeowner eats many,
and the snacks you see were set out yesterday
to be gone tomorrow.
Perhaps the homeowner does not eat them at all,
and the snacks you see were a gift,
or an ill-considered purchase.
We will always judge,
but let us not be too hasty in our conclusions.

P.S. How many weeks will it take for me to get through the pretzel sticks and tortilla chips on my counter? I have no idea, but I imagine some of them will still be around in September :)

Please consider the tone of your voice, I say
For I am not in the mood for ill-considered sarcasm,
For it’s been a while since I heard a jackass bray.
Words can slice through the heart, emotions flay
Send one’s warm feelings into a deep, dark chasm,
Please consider the tone of your voice, I say.
I suppose I might be more tolerant another day,
But in my present state of mind, I have no enthusiasm
For it’s been a while since I heard a jackass bray.
You say you merely tease, it’s just your way to play,
But the nastiness of your words provokes a spasm
Please consider the tone of your voice, I say.
No one likes their sunny day turned a gloomy gray
Or feel their self-worth is reduced to protoplasm,
For it’s been a while since I heard a jackass bray.
Would you like if I set about your nerves to fray?
And, then told you it was in your mind a phantasm
Please consider the tone of your voice, I say,
For it’s been a while since I heard a jackass bray!

Did you say you are sorry, my friend,
With a genuine feeling of humble contrition,
Or was your “Sorry about that!” a means to an end,
To change your ill-considered, untenable position
Without regard for my miserable condition?

Shut eye tired sun hidden, dark deals are bidden
Crept beneath deepening mystery
Seen by benevolent moon, blatant sins forgiven
White kindness laid table service savoury array
Ghost woven cloth spread mistily
Holds hottest options which daylight won't avail
Atop endless selections, ravenous diner imbibes
Most dishes devoured deliciously
Serene spotted moon smiled fat will never chastise
Night crumbles memory, black chocolate splinter
Kept quiet in ten hour slice of history
Melted by Summer sultry, frozen rose stem of Winter
Jovial diamond jives, moon lake ripple refraction
Dwells in water's waver inconsistently
Told lies transform to truth for short lived satisfaction
Lured by beguiling bounce, harlequin blanket swim
Brings ill considered next day ignominy
Impure intent in obscure of nuit secures sinful whim

As We Melt
Heat
Fills
The world
Summer
Becomes Forever
Everywhere, all the time;
Ice turning into a thing fondly remembered,
A dream of blue and white now only seen in the heartless, burning,
Unforgiving sky.
The waters rise, the lands recede, we flee to higher ground in search
Of solace
From the consequences of our ill-considered deeds.
Gaia blithely ignores our pleas;
She doesn't need us
To prosper;
She thrives -
We
Die.

Spare me ill-considered thoughts
and tales of the enlightened sage
whose very basis of belief
arose in palpable assemblage
one late summer evening
while listening to his ringing ears,
as he lay soaking naked in a tub.
And holy writ of nether world—
its commands and promises
now in language thrice removed—
misunderstood when first uttered
in scarce remembered ancient tongue,
yet presumptive literal masters
hasten to opine.
Absurdities compound,
interstices of mind—
vacuformed and stolid—
deny calm reason’s abstract,
and flee truth’s sanctum,
dogma in their fond embrace,
awash in its decrepitude.
Humanity thus
in thrall of Mesmer’s haunt
sustains a tortured cadence
of greed, dishonesty and graft,
which now in tawdry bloat ascends,
as if arms of gods on the empyrean sphere
would open wide to greet.
Consider well and ponder such severely,
who would transcend the veil,
for wisdom gained and love prolonged
will surely ease the transit.
And those who favored having over being?
Their cherished worth is fled.
Their hubris now dismissed.

LUST IS AS ILL-CONSIDERED A WEED
AS EVER STOLE SCENT
Rejected in the main as superstition -
A gadfly, I’m alone upon the weed:
A hot cinquefoil brooding on position,
Declared intent of being in need of screed -
Now the subject of each idle bee
Gorged already, needing a restful stop
What if his gyrations bring to me
No true syncopation of a honeyed hop?
Beauty – not recognised as such – I wonder
Why man and woman excavate a flower garden
Tear my fertility, so they may squander
Wild possibility, and the earth around me harden.
Can the joy I have before I’m torn asunder
Be worth it when they never ask my pardon?

For his fifth birthday, Heathcliff
Received a toy sword and sheath
With bubble mixture inside from
His absent-minded Uncle Keith.
It seemed an ideal gift.
Heathcliff tingled with pride,
Blowing heavenly bubbles
In the lugholes of his relations,
As they beamed with adult adoration
For a child achieving the easily achievable.
But twenty six years on, at sea,
Heathcliff was besieged by pirates
With six foot sabres gleaming
Like stainless steel cutlery.
Alas, our hero's bubble sword
Offered poor protection.
An Uncle's birthday bungling
Had doomed the lad to bloody vivisection.

The Prophet
By
Kahil Gibran
A very quiet revolution
Takes its place inside you heart
When your eyes are opened
By the words of someone else
Very quiet wisdom
As it whispers in your soul
Very gentle hammers
Come to dismantle your accepted world
The changes come so slowly
But indefatigable in their tread
They show you indoctrination
And the easy habits of your use
You are change within the landscapes
Of so many ill considered opinions
You are forced to take those assumptions
And give them another look
It’s in the power of their truth
In the entreating voice of his love
He takes away the blindfolds
Makes you more than you once were
It’s a very quiet rebellion
So quiet, but with a monumental shout
When your eyes are opened
By the words of someone else
