ICE WATER IN A VASE
Ice cold shasta, right from the start -
My first day at work,
“I know how much you make”
and the molten stare of sun from her yellow eye.
She loves me…She loves me not
I can’t penetrate her southern heart.
Well, bless it! She spied a yankee right from the start.
She’s packing vitamin c in her indelible leaves,
resistant to my northern charm.
She loves me…she loves me not
Digging a garden, expanding her farm town.
Always in control, always right.
I am just a pawn, but good for a shoulder cry.
She has taught me much, nonetheless.
Yes! She loves me…loves me not

T he winter weary worshipers of spring’s
U nfettered beauty wend their happy way
L eisurely through massive fields of tulips,
I n fabulous grand opening today.
P etals proudly reveal the colors bold.
S pring sunshine is fast conquering the cold.
O n and on the stream of cars is slow,
N ot wanting to miss any of the show.
D igging in my garden I am questioned
Is this the best route or the shortest way?
P utting down my tools, I rise to answer,
L egs have had their workout for the day.
A pril is a full month of tulip tours.
Y ard work must wait as long as tour endures.
