Waiting For the Bus

A group of schoolkids joined the line
While waiting for the bus.
It seemed to take forever but,
Of course, they made no fuss.

As kids will do, they horsed around
To make the time go by,
When one, a blonde with glasses,
Somehow turned and caught my eye.

I smiled, for he reminded me
Of someone close back home.
He spoke to me in German, then,
Inspiring this poem.

For when I answered, poorly,
That I didn't understand,
His face lit up and "English?"
He responded, close at hand.

"New York," I said, at which
Another student whipped around,
His mouth agape at me,
A foreign creature they had found.

The bus arrived; they scampered on
And so did I, at last,
Another mem'ry in the bank
Of travels I've amassed.

Have Horsed Around With Hiaku

Have Horsed Around with Haiku

With me horse remain;
I would rub and pet her mane;
She did entertain.

Selfies

Once upon a time, within the
Confines of our youth,
To take a picture of ourselves,
We went into a booth.

We smiled, we frowned, we horsed around
And stepped out from the curtain
Where images in black and white
The camera was convertin’.

Today, instead, it’s “selfies”
Taken with a cellphone turned
To catch a photo of oneself,
To post for all concerned.

Those picture strips from long ago
Were taken as a lark,
With friends with whom on life’s adventures
We were to embark.

But nowadays these “selfies”
Grab each moment, one by one;
Yet glorifying every instant
Sucks out all the fun.

When life is thus immortalized
With ego center-staged,
I wonder if with others
All those “selfies” are engaged.

Not So Happy Holidays

You know I got divorced,
From a nagging wife who turned out to be horsed.
So I scribed to Daddymas for a new bird,
Told him the lyrics, gave him the word.

I said, “She must not be skinny, or too fat,”
She must be in between, a plump middle age old bat.
You know something crossed between a chicken and a turkey,
What do you call ‘em ah yes! A Churkey.

Daddymas was swift, speedily replied,
I was so excited until I read his letter inside.
“Now listen carefully,” daddymas said to me,
"You need to go to this place and there she will be."

"Not skinny or too fat,"
"In between just the way you like her, a plump middle aged old bat."
If you in this place she’ll be there, your “Churkey,” an attractive dish,
And you know what the f—ker gave me, free subscription to the online dating agency “plenty of fish.”

Love In the Fog

LOVE IN THE FOG

Gardens will bloom and leaves will fall
Hearts will be quickened –fog or snow
Love beckons once its sudden call....

Through midnight fog a stark black crow
Sought shoulders of a man well-horsed.
Hearts will be quickened –fog or snow

          A woman parted highland gorse
She walked with purpose—mind was set--
Sought shoulders of a man well-horsed.

As Fate would have it their eyes met
He smiled --reached down-- her hand kissed light
She walked with purpose—mind was set--

Plucked from the road—sped out of sight.
Her bonnet tossed mid roadside grass---
He smiled --reached down-- her hand kissed light

Townsfolk wonder each time they pass
Gardens will bloom and leaves will fall
Her bonnet tossed mid roadside grass---
Love beckons once its sudden call....

                  Who of us dares
                   Fly into the night
                On love’s bold far-eyed steed?

Inconceivable

My affection for you
     Wholly unmeasured
I’ve breathed of you
     Precedingly
Before my eyes
     Drank your quintessence
My love envisioned
     Impossible…
Left unaccountable
     Within depths you swim
Deepest waters of my being
     Blindly warming coils
Senses falter near you
     Horsed whispers silenced
Immeasurably electric
     Static overloaded tremors
Caress kiss steadied
     Thirsting thoughts open
Parched by your vision
     Sensations slowly eyed
Ephemeral murmurs drifting
     Sounding your approach
Embracing of revamped man
     Momentary completion
Dauntingly sure strength
     Returned small as before
As one we have subsisted
     Eternal lovers burning
Intensely fired perpetual
     A perfect circle
Consistency mirrors you
     Without….
I am nothing.
