Pans: Again

More pans to wash …
More pans to wash!!!
They come umpteen times a day.

My hands are chapped,
My back is crook’d
I wish they’d go away.

But when they’re dry and shiny, sitting neatly on their shelves
My thoughts can turn to what comes next -
Some tasty treat, no longer vexed
I now ‘create; and undertake
Pie, bun, roast a glorious cake?
Foods to soothe the ravening beasts
My pans cook up some wondrous feasts.

On Chanukah

On Chanukah we dreidel spin
And chocolate gelt we hope to win.
If we get Gimel ‘stead of Shin,
Let’s celebrate tonight.

We eat some latkes, oil-fried,
Which balabustas* made with pride,
With applesauce served on the side,
Our smiles sweet and bright.

At sundown as the candles glow
We tell the tale of long ago
And sing the Dreidel song we know,
Our spirits free and light.

We open presents, wrapped with care
To see the gifts well-hidden there;
With so much love for all to share,
It’s Chanukah, all right!

Historical Outlaws

What, are you talking about?
I am saying that we have a past.
It is full of guns, and law,
and law breakers.
It is full of heroes and villains
and homemakers.

We are America(s).
We stand up,
we do not sit down.
We kneel for God,
and rise to defeat
injustice.

The base of our life,
a collection of men,
full of ideas, for a better world.
One that would incorporate,
all people of the land,
America.

Freedom.
Your skin color
does not matter.
Your are not,
African,
Asian,
Indian,
Or Indian…
Irish or “white” (what ever that means)
The census calls.
Write down the truth.
Make it real, tell it to all.
You, yes you…
and you and you and you.

I am, we are, all of US…
The USA.
Citizens of a country,
That proclaims freedom
more important than death.

Homemakers Alterego

Homemaker's Alterego

                   Me sincere,she creative,
I have routine work to do,
                   she demands paper,pen ,books
                   balance is challenge.

                   Me around domestic walls,
she says both will do wordspin,
                   mills around whims and fancies,
                   duty should be prime.

Number One

You were always number one, never number two.
I'm your son and I was very fortunate to have you.
You cared more about others than you did for yourself and that is rare.
It took your death to show me how hard life can be and how unfair.
Because you chose to be a homemaker, I was able to spend much more time with you and that made me glad.
Because of you, I admire women who are homemakers and I don't care if that makes Feminists mad.
When people see me, they see a man who is proud to be your son.
You always came first in my life, you were always number one.

[Dedicated to Agnes Johnson (1948-2013) who passed away on March 6, 2013.]

Premium MemberThe Lost Kiss

The walking trail around the lake
crunches like a full bags of crisps
at a Fall football game.

The oak leaf refuse curls frost burnt inward.
The manmade lake still, motionless
a covering of snow cone slurry
drapes the depths.

Prepubescent boys lob mud covered
boulder bombs through the lakes sheath.

Babies born in Winters night
emerge enthroned in umbrella strollers
whooshed in cocoon-buntings by
proud twosomes through the Sping mud.

Jogging homemakers
with fish bottom white legs
hurl themselves round and round
the circular track careening past
young lovers who can’t unplug.

Missing the first kiss of Spring.
