Eckersbergs street
The city was waking up, after a long winter.
The street was to be swept the next day.
Warning signs were put out; No parking.
A couple of cars were not yet removed, waiting to be towed away.
I was on my way home. After bed time, before closing time.
I heard a loud noise behind me, a sign suddenly overturned.
A girl, black hair. A white, high necked, sweater and brown pants.
She cried; really wept bitterly. She walked fast, almost running.
She went in the middle of the road. A police car came in from the right, drove alongside her.
No crime being reported, it left. She stared right ahead, heeded no one.
I didn’t know where she had been.
I didn’t know what had happened.
I didn’t know where she was going.
I suspected what had happened; happened to her.
Messed up hair, make up running. Sweater inside out.
I hoped she had a place to go.
I hoped she had a place to go; to.
I hoped she didn’t have to be alone.
I hoped she didn’t have to be alone; in the night.
It can be a lonesome place; the night.
