H2O

Water equals life.
My greatest fear is drowning.
But, in it I breathe.

water the horse drink from

tides flow in then out
     waves appear then disappear

tadpoles in the stream
     swimming zigzag everywhere

Memories

cracked teacup - 
still too full
to throw away


Sounds

insomnia -
all these sounds
I'd miss if I was asleep

distant lightning -
the silhouettes
of so many dead

Empathy 

a drop of water 
hangs on the end
of this bamboo spout - I sniff



Alone

how fragile the evening -
this huge silence
about to burst

flakes of

frog on lily pad
     out shoots the tongue
          tasty fly now gone

Red hourglasses
drawn thin and narrow waisted
sparkling motes fall

Clippings

a freshly mown lawn
     the clippings become new mulch
          the grass will

Life's no banked river...
Life's roving waves frothing shores...
Life's oceanic...

A Handful of Haiku: Laughter of the rain

Middle of July
Breathless days and sauna nights
Summer's lethargy

In their garden pool
Irises rise cool and tall
Like pastel water

Laughter of the rain
Crisp and clean like silver bells
Cool

Birds

bird in the birdbath
     chirping and splashing water
           now more birds

Crabs

a crab sheds his shell 
          vulnerable for six weeks
a new shell appears

stronger than ever
