Another war, another truce
Israel leaves so many ends loose, and yet
Dozens die, so Thousands may live
The horrific result full-scale war might give

The Jewish State pulled out of Gaza in 2006
As thanks, it's had aught but terror attacks since
Yet, retaking Gaza with a punishing all-out assault
Of that, Israel is not (at all) convinced ...

What's the best way to handle this stubborn impasse
Time has a way of coming to the rescue --
Look! Egyptian and Israeli soldiers ~ friends at long last*

  ________________________________________________
*Nearly fifty years after the deadly Yom Kippur War of 1973,
Egyptian and Israeli soldiers, once the bitterest of enemies,
embraced publicly, openly weeping in each other's arms, at
a 'joint ceremony' at Ben Gurion Airport in 2022.

Premium MemberLife-Changing Flight

I flew to Israel at age 22
 Ten days after graduating college
Knew what I didn't want to do in life
Didn't know what I wanted to do

Got off the plane
 Looked at the signs
  All in Hebrew!
   Kosher Meat -- in Hebrew
Taxi for Hire -- in Hebrew
Lod Airport -- in Hebrew (Today: Ben Gurion International Airport)

My language! My Country! My Home!

Moved there "for good" five years later
Didn't quite make a go of it, Pity!
  Returned broken-hearted...
But the Flavor of the Land
    The Spirit of Its People
          My People!
     Has never left me:
    They Changed My Life
      They Changed Me
        For the Better
           Forever!

Accusers Mostly Losers

(Mary Custis was the wife of Robert E. Lee.
Union forces captured her ante-bellum
mansion in what is now Arlington Cemetery
and defiled it, because it was the only thing
of Lee's they could get their hands on.)

Suppose you kill Gaddafi and Hussein,
or sad old Nazis, huddled in the dock.
So what exactly do you think you gain?
Your own humanity is what you mock,

not them. The winners stringing-up the losers
can not be right. You heap your fury on
the halt and helpless. Beggars can’t be choosers,
but winners can. (Why not Ben-Gurion?)

Put Karadzic before a firing-squad
for spite, or just to entertain the flock,
but don’t disguise the ugly thing your lust is.
Don’t talk of Law, or Liberty, or God.
Go rape the home of absent Mary Custis,
if rape you must. Don’t dress it up as Justice.

Every Time We Make Love / Lali Tsipi Michaeli

Every time we make love

I stand with
one hair
In my mouth

To get to you I need to cross Dizengoff via Ben Gurion
Nathan Zach through Rabin Square and Iben Gvirol

To turn in to King David and make a right
Ascend the step
Rolling towards the silence of the blossoming stairwell
To the lift that always
Opens like a Mercedes
And drives me directly to the streets of your arms

By the way,
Do you remember my throwing up in your car?

It was from love.
