Dragonfly Afloat on the Lake
A dragonfly afloat on the lake
Flaps its wings to keep from drowning.
With its life in the balance, it senses hope
And boards the paddle I nudge into place.
Slowly, I draw the oar out of the water
And watch the dragonfly bask in the sun.
Now recuperated with dried wings,
The insect alights on the boat’s gunnel.
I contemplate the situation, seeking a higher meaning,
Wondering if it understands fate or destiny
And canoe towards the shore for its safety.
Or is it just an instinctive reaction?
That brought us together in this crisis
As it flies away, leaving me with a memory.

Patrolling this part of ocean
we met French vessel of line.
The white streak neath gunnel
showed us a many gun ship,
a very dangerous
lady of war
We beat fast before a strong wind.
Our gun ports were opened wide.
Giving and taking much
the splinters were everywhere.
Fortune smiled now on us.
Wind filled our sails.
We went about crossing the T
to give them twenty-four shot.
The Frogs took ball and flame
real badly, their sheets and spars
torn and splintered, their bow
was shot clean away.
His Majesty's Ship, Invictus,
with will that couldn't be stopped,
demanded surrender
of French ship that listed and
burned intensely, seen as
lost beyond doubt.
Flag came down and men rowed away.
I accepted captain's sword
and sent doctor forward
to help with the wounded men.
We watched as the vessel
went under waves.

The barometer was falling fast,
and the winds were pickin' up.
We secured the lifelines along the gunnel
and shortened sail for comin' tack.
Seas were runnin' high with great swells,
and hatches were battened down.
We all knew what was a comin',
for this small ship of the crown.
I took my place at the wheel with
orders to keep her before the wind.
She pitched and yawed off course,
and I rued the days I'd sinned.
By god, whatever happens
will be no fault of mine.
I'll steer this ship to hell's gate,
and not leave wheel before I'd drown.

the ocean's my play ground
and pretty days there I be found
I come from the land of pirates and drug runners
but now days I thinks fishin is funner
6 days off shore, my vision a tunnel
while all me mates puke on the gunnel
I cackle and gives the boyz a nod
and holdz tightly to me'z fishin rod
I'z drinkin me'z rum and tea
but then I reel-I'z I need'z to pee
I move a boy'z head, and puts da rod on the gunnel
and unzipps me center pocket for the bladder funnel
so while I was holdin the dong
I see'z "I got a fish on!"
oh how it gave me'z the joys
I caught that fish while pissin on dim boys
by Capt. Mike
ps I glad that fish didn't bite me other pole!
