Awakening

Bury the night in the brightening day,
Gather thoughts as they spread with the light
Put them together as dream shadows slip away.

Awkward moments pass
As consciousness collects itself,
Taking form in your glasslike soul.

Reach up and cast about
Searching for the shuddering feel of the world
Reach in to snuff the soft doubts of the heart.

Brave the taste of another day's life
Crossing the border into wakefulness.
Cut the bonds of sleep with Reason's knife.

Venture forth into the land of the living,
Join the commotion that flows through the streets;
Judge it not, for it is past forgiving.

Don'T Ever Let Me Go

The sun dips silently over the horizon

painting the cloudless sky

with shades of red, yellow and peach

Arm in arm two figures silhouette in the distance

closer and closer they stroll

stepping out onto the old fishing pier

the pair gaze out over the glasslike pond

with the occasional ripple rolling gently

Darkness comes upon them

and they kiss

a long and deep kiss

you can hear her speak in the silence

"Don't ever let me go"

"Don't ever let me go"

The Stair

Have you seen the darkness fall?
Or heard the warblers cry and call?
Have you tasted sadness and sorrow?
Have you felt the warmth of tomorrow?

Take my hand, I'll lead you there.
To this long ascending stair.
We'll climb forever, climb above it all.
Then we'll jump, but we will never fall.
Take a breath, dive into oceans deep.
Close your eyes, fall into eternal sleep.

Take my hand, I'll lead you there.
To this long ascending stair.
We'll climb forever, climb for truth and love.
We could fly high, fly high like a dove.
Close your eyes, listen to it all.
Hear the voices rise and fall.

Take my hand, I'll lead you there.
To this long ascending stair.
View the oceans, their glasslike reflections.
Take your time, cherrish your recollections.
We'll travel far, too far for some.
Spread your wings, try to become.

Take my hand, I'll lead you there...
To this long ascending stair...
Have you seen the darkness fall?
Or heard the warblers cry and call?
Have you tasted sadness and sorrow?
Have you felt the warmth of tomorrow?
Climb this stair...Let me lead you there...
