Tried to capture the very moment of coming out of sleep.
Awakening
Bury the night in the brightening day,
Gather thoughts as they spread with the light
Put them together as dream shadows slip away.
Awkward moments pass
As consciousness collects itself,
Taking form in your glasslike soul.
Reach up and cast about
Searching for the shuddering feel of the world
Reach in to snuff the soft doubts of the heart.
Brave the taste of another day's life
Crossing the border into wakefulness.
Cut the bonds of sleep with Reason's knife.
Venture forth into the land of the living,
Join the commotion that flows through the streets;
Judge it not, for it is past forgiving.
