When Poets Shop
Finding a robin on the freeway
is not more startling than encountering
a poet in the condiments aisle
at the market. When worlds collide!
His tall red-bandana'd figure
strides past the packaged nuts
and dried fruits. Warning to customers: he may
declaim at any moment!
Let's make a poem from
the salad dressing shelves--
let the Goddess dressing
humble the Ranch and Italian;
they fall to their knees
before her glory!
Lingering in the produce aisle now,
where the cilantro pretends to be parsley,
luring us to build a hut of scented
greenery, with a roof of leeks
and lemon grass! Forget the
bee-loud glade-- there is an aisle-full
of air fresheners nearby!
Checking out with the cheerful gray-haired
COOP workers, our bags now carry food, fuel in
colorful packaging; our minds
tuck away seeds for future poems.

“Oh Dear, what can the matter be?”
Gramps screamed while on his fourth mad dash.
The bathroom seemed a mile away!
Was it the stew or corned beef hash?
He never takes the time to read
ingredients and warnings on
the packages of treats. He MUST
or it will surely never dawn
on him those tasty sugar-free
desserts can have a laxative
effect on some. Apparently,
he’s one of them. He’s doomed to live
with bowels that flow frequently
unless he wises up. He’ll spend
a fortune on air fresheners,
soft bathroom tissue, and Depends!

All the nice things in life!
By Stanley Russell Harris
The new mad author
& A Poetry Soup honourably mentioned poet
All the nice things in life!
Are said to be the cause of strife.
Some even can shorten your life.
Sugar is one oh so sweet.
That’s something to cut down to eat.
Salt also is said to be bad.
A lot on fish and chips I’ve had.
Exhaust fumes from motorcars.
Air fresheners in the house and car.
All those chemicals we inhale.
No wonder we are sick and pale.
Too much sun is bad it’s true.
So cover our skin in chemicals, we do.
So much preservative we digest.
What else is bad I can ingest?
Now fizzy drinks must also go.
Those full of sugar or so low.
So if you do, none of these.
Life should be like a fresh breeze!

Someone playing a concrete violin
with a jackhammer
on a midnight sidewalk,
street lights gawk,
flickering fascination,
tuning keys locked,
rosin swipes declined
chalks marks hold hop scotch trinkets
tossed into the numbered squares,
pawned now for a glass of chardonnay
and a plate of cheese
Paneled walls ache
of yesterday’s smoke rings,
scentless air fresheners,
hanging Christmas trees
presumed innocent,
only here for the music
and rear view mirrors
cherry lipstick traces on a folded napkin
crimson half circles
prints on either side
someone will be kissed tonight
I’ll take it with me
I love the flavor

The ice-white-capped teeth
Smile and beguile the contacted eye
‘Java’ white-bright tee shirts dazzle
Plastic letters ironed on right-side in
Shoulders the body making a statement?
Speaks to me of this century’s impurities
Air fresheners smelling of ‘spice’
Coats the hazy circulating sun
Press-on nails make a statement
All this is in the name of ‘add-ons’!
Linens yellow with age and crinkle fine
Woolens shrink if washed in hot water
Cottons now stretch with added spandex
Silks colourful and light, billow with mirth
Brighten the day to darken the night!
Vitamins and creams make the skin turn young
Micro-wave quickens re-packaged (fake-foods) ‘boxed’
Time ‘replays’ when circling the moon-beamed skies!

Bleach - disinfectant
fly and hairsprays
polish - air fresheners
used everyday
In our homes
without a thought
whilst the planet around us
becomes out of control
Smog from rush-hour traffic
on the urban scene
irritates the chest
but then leave what you don't see
Chlorine in the
swimming baths
our work's not done
better change them to ultra violet
Oil prices gone up
while our fossils have gone down
yet fumes burn off in furnaces
straight into the clouds
We're digging out gemstones
creating deeper mines
We've dug for years for coal
and now hydraulic fracturing - we're fracking
What of the gases
that protect our Earth
The holes just getting bigger
yet we're not being heard
We are opening Earth's crusts
increasing vehicles on our roads
using all our silver - using all our gold
whilst the Earth dies screaming
And meanwhile whilst we live
in our ignorance
Generations that follow
will have health suffer in horrendous penitence

We are the women..
Who full of life,
pluvial in attendance,
Fresheners in sweetness,
Tranquil decorated with flowers,
Spilling like spring,
Gleeful, like the wind
Flavored by the seasonings love,
Wavey, glowing on the sands of desire,
Adorer, lover, raring to love that never
'broken nor unfulfilled'
Flirting under fabrics texts and above!
,
So let him come to us
The one who is collecting the sea
In our evening silk..! !
