Cassio Laps Wondrously

Cassio Laps Wondrously An open porch, gifts spritely legs on all his fours, meows he begs so opens I, a tuna can not be prepared, a stray in tan that came to be for many years a wandering did set in fears yet his return continued on meows are heard, that be his song untimely death outside our door car screeching sound could not ignore near fronts our yard, the roses bloom midst stands a cross neath lies his tomb heartfelt love, receptive wills he laps Heaven's milk, eternally. 2020 August 23 *1st Place* All Pets Go To Heaven ~~Constance La France

Ozzie

Ozzie oh Ozzie

Ozzie was a Newfoundland dog
This dog was like a big ball of cushion
He had a body of a bear and innocent look of child
He was soft in and out, well crafted, black and white
He weighed around 150 pounds
He loved to run- he had the most majestic run
I loved watching him, took so many videos of him

Rewind a little step back......me as an adult
Coming to a new culture, I was very disgusted by how pets were treated
I was like - how can animals be treated better than humans?
I was confused and had a lot of "nice" things to say about this new pet culture

Rewind back........I was around 12
I got a beating from my brother for throwing cold dish water on one of our dogs
I was an angry teen

Rewind back, way back........around 7 years
Me and my sister cried so hard when we watched one of our brothers kill and bury little puppies
His reason being, we didn't have food to feed them and nobody would take them
I guess, population control
I was an innocent kid
Around same year or year after, we lost Tommy a beloved dog of the family that had been with us for years
His burial was in style, none like that in our village
We buried him like a human and even wrote an epitaph for him
We all loved him

Thank you Ozzie for taking the angry teen and the confused adult out of me
And bringing back the innocent kid
I will always love you, because of you my love for pets blossomed!

Something In the Way Kurt Cobain

Born in Aberdeen Washington
where he hung out,

“Underneath the bridge,
the tarp has sprung a leak”

Taught himself to play guitar,
liked to smoke some weed,

“And the animals I’ve trapped
have all become my pets”

Started writing songs,
had very deep meaning,

“And I’m living off of grass
and drippings from the ceiling”

Formed the band Nirvana
with some of his buddies,

“But it’s ok to eat fish,
cause they don’t have any feelings”

“Something in the way”
boy he’s got ambition,
“Something in the way yeah”
unwavering conviction,
“Something in the way”
chronic stomach condition,
“Something in the way yeah”
impending perdition.

Records started to sell
superstardom beckoned,

“Underneath the bridge,
the tarp has sprung a leak”

Took the billboard chart by storm,
Grunge had found its champion,

“And the animals I’ve trapped
have all become my pets”

Money started to come in,
met ‘Courtney Love’ it seems,

“And I’m living off of grass,
and drippings from the ceiling”

Got married had a child,
They named her Frances Bean,

But it’s ok to eat fish,
cause they don’t have any feelings.

“Something in the way”
by your own admission.
“Something in the way yeah”
is it drug addiction,
“Something in the way”
rehab with no remission,
“Something in the way yeah”
a round of ammunition.

Nothings in the way,
they can feel you breathing,
Board spells out your name
a very eerie feeling,
Gun went off by mistake
is the wound still healing,
Sigrid’s seance was no fake,
I am so believing,
A voice of burning nails
exorcising demons,
Goodbye Kurt Cobain
tarp was only weeping.

By
David Kavanagh

Inspired by
Sigrid Ermine poem
Called by Cobain seance

Lyrics “something in the way” by,
Kurt Cobain.

Marjan - the Pearl of Afghanistan

MARJAN - THE PEARL OF AFGHANISTAN . . .

MERA JAAN MARJAN . . .

Given as a gift from Germany to Kabul zoo in Afghanistan
No fields to run in - just a miserable enclosed barren land

You were blessed with a beautiful lioness partner - Chucha
She must have made you feel no less than a majestic Shah

You survived against all the invasions and the bloody wars
Behind those dark miserably cramped closed barring doors

You were a survivor that against - all the cruelly made odds
Was even threaten to be killed by the - unholy Taliban sods

But your loyal keeper fought for your life - using the Quran
With the prophet Muhammad helping you to all understand

That an animal is to be respected - he also had his own pets
To kill you Marjan would in the end only have its own regrets

But you were brought down by an - egotistical Mujahedeen
Who you killed for mauling your Chucha - for fun it seemed

In turn the killed brother gave you three grenades as a gift
The damage it caused you was more than deserved - swift

You lost your sight in one eye and near all of it in the other
Because of a under deserving revenge of a grieved brother

You lost all of your teeth - with the blast all of your hearing
Yet you survived - to Afghans you became more endearing

That they took it upon themselves to then kill this very man
For the ignorance of the situation as he did not understand

You had thought this man was a threat to your lioness pride
As it was in the end his own fault he was attacked then died

As the wars in Afghanistan raged so did the famine drought
When it came to food I was afraid there was little of it about

But the Afghan people gathered in force to see you were fed
No one wanted the Shah Marjan from hunger be found dead

You came through all of this - skin sagging on a frame so lean
But for it all never did once made you ferocious or seen mean

As your beloved keeper walked with you within your enclosure
For all of your injuries you always maintained your composure

Your name traveled worldwide - and they all come to do their best
But after a quarter of a century you had then laid yourself to rest

This tribute is to you mera jaan Marjan – the pearl of Afghanistan
May you always with Chucha - fly free high above this desert land

Higher and higher with the longed for eternal peace may you soar
As the winds carry along with it your once mighty and proud roar
