Do Not Bear False Witness
Sometimes we speak evil of others
Some are harmful, we cannot reverse
When the damage is done
And there's nowhere to run
Our conscience calls us to retract
Those wicked words to those we detract
So be careful we must when speaking!

If I described
a rose’s bloom
or the beauty
of the rising sun
Then I’d be writing
another’s verse
conscripted words
respun
If I then waxed
of love on high
and hearts that
break anew
Then falsely would
I pen the lines
a plagiarist

And Stephen, full of grace, performed great signs;
The Freedmen rose, disputed what he said.
Unable to withstand, they soon resigned;
They leveled claims of blasphemy instead.
They stirred up folks; the news, like wildfire, spread.

Where witnesses bore testimony ill,
“Says Jesus will destroy this holy place,
Seeks to reverse what Moses has instilled!”
But Stephen bore a calm, angelic face.

division commands
which savior, which heaven,
epistles in hand
Devotion to difference,
each split ever wide
one bible three meanings
—all preaching a lie

Bearing false witness, may or may not, condemn the accused
But would, unquestionably, condemn the soul of the accuser!

It’s easy to judge another by color, size, speech
to file him away safely out of reach.
It’s easy to give thanks you’re not like him
whose chances for success you think are slim.
Some reach such a conclusion absent facts,
hence how they treat others is a falsity of acts.
We know nothing of another by looks alone,
for judgments so made we will have to atone.
Pretending to be the pure an innocent,
a viper the mask hides.
In the absence of those to defending themselves,
the more vigorously it swears.
Those that show too credulous favor to listen,
instead of being careful, to insist on sound validation.
No elixir or spell can cure,
only truly depends on first loving themselves.

A false witness
Seldom goes unpunished,
So never profane
The name of a friend.
Guard your tongue
And choose your words,
Broken friendships
Sometime don't mend.
